Twinkly 6 Smart RGB Squares $99 + Delivery ($0 C&C/ in-Store) @ JB Hi-Fi

330

Have been looking for some sort of Smart wall lighting for a while, and these look pretty good.
Ordered one in Eltham (VIC), there seems to be plenty of stock in stores near me.

https://twinkly.com/en-au/products/squares?variant=433921937…
I think it's the same as these which are $470 from the Twinkly website, but sold out so might be an old model.

Thanks. Got 2 of these yesterday. Ready for pickup at store. Looks quite cool. See few other twinkly products on sale. Was thinking about the music addon usb but no stock close to me.

  • Yeah, rrp around 400, but I've never seen it on special lower than about $220.

  • Looks cool, do you reckon you need at least 2 boxes to show a pixely but sort of defined image?

    • 6 panels per box, so if you check the screenshots out you can roughly work out what you can create.

      • Lol bought 1 but was debating whether to get a second. Slept on it too long and they're all sold out in my store. RIP lol

  • Man that's an amazing price. Most stores only have 2. Would make a great PC display instead of using Nanoleaf. I think each panel is 14cm and the kit comes with 6 panels (so 42x42cm in one kit). So you can measure how many panels you need to fit on your space to combine multiple sets

    • +1

      42x28?

      • Fail Math

        42 x 28 yep

    • Each is 16x16cm and 2cm depth

so, being a 6 tile kit, you can achieve a 3x2 rectangle
      of 48cm by 32cm

      • +1

Yeah you are right looks like 16cm, not 14cm

  • Shame I reckon really want like 9 panels for a display 3 x 3 so need 2 kits

    • +3

      Buy 2 kits

    • +1

There is a 3 panel extension kit for $84 as well.

      • +3

Pay the extra $16 to get the 3 extra panels

        • Agree that is a better idea, just pointing out options.

        • Can multiple masters be used in the same set up?

          • @bargainshooter: Yes. 1 Master becomes one "unit", then multiple units get grouped in the app to function as one

            • @cyrax83: Great! Do they need separate power or can say 3 masters all be connected by one power cable?

              • @bargainshooter: that i'm not sure

                • @cyrax83: Got 2 sets. Trying to set it up using all tiles (12). Not sure if can use 2 main ones or have to combine 2 (6) sets in the app? Just wondering if I can use 2 masters.saw that 15 is.max.for one master.

Also if I "join" the 2 sets through last tile or leave them using 2 power sources. Anyone got this setup?

                  • @Mikael: Don't have my set yet but apparently you need to set them up as two separate groups in the app and combine them as the master can't be used as a normal tile.

                    • +1

@devize: Ended up setting up two and combined them in app. Works fine now.

  • Thanks, Bought 3 of them (18 tiles, 15 standard ones and 3 masters),
it's enough to make a 16 tile 4x4 'square' picture
and have two masters left over!

Though that 30 tile 10 long / 3 high landscape picture does look tempting, not sure I can stump up for 5 sets though

Don't forget, each square is 16cm by 16cm……..two makes a standard 30cm ruler in length!!

Heck, could even annoy @Jimothy Wongingtons and make two 9x9's ;-)

Seems to be 404ing now? Wonder if it was a pricing error

"Oops! We can't find the page you're looking for."

  • It is back at the same price, but delivery options seem to be dwindling.
Edit: Nope, gone again. Seems to be inconsistent, I don't think it's my caching.

  • Someone who bought this and is having buyers regret please sell it to me, i have an addiction to lights and i need these..heh

    • +1

Addiction exacerbated on ozbargain it seems :(
      I am the same 😭

  • Jumped on two meetings and it’s now expired 🥲🥲

  • Yeah ditto here…if anyone has buyers remorse is SA 🙏

  • Just got shipping notification on my pair. Thought they might get cancelled.

  • I was able to order it for $99 - $107 delivered. I wasn't able to order 2 sets though

  • Yeah, seems to be back. Managed to make an order.

  • Ordered 2 sets delivered through 2 separate orders. Thx

if you are into 3d printing and can solder, you can make these dirt cheap yourself. I just made a 16x16 and coat about $25 bucks and is based on wled

    • +3

Do you have any links or guides on doing it yourself?

    • +2

oh! what a cool project that would be.. I'm with @TheGunslinger - please provide some guide if you can :)

    • +3

      Interesting
Can you link the ingredients for this DIY?

    • guide please

    • @kinghuzi

    • True, and I am, and have!
But I also bought 3 of these as I can’t fault the ‘plug and play’ of the Twinkly stuff

  • Looks like I've got a shipping tracking number for my order of 4 for delivery. Got 2 for click and collect. 6 sets should make a pretty sweet PC room display

  • Having issues grouping multiple master sets into one display. Anyone have the same issue?

From what I gather, multiple master sets need their own power and need to be configured separately as units of 6, and then grouped. It seems like the master tile can't operate in a slave mode.

    • Correct.
      connect 1 master, 5 dumb
      do that again
then group the two together in the app
      then MAP the two

then it'll appear as a single matrix

      • Yeah got it working. I think my dual band 2.5 and 5ghz wifi was messing it up. I turned off the 5ghz for the setup and now its fine.

I think its pretty good for $99. You definitely need a few kits to make it appealing. For anyone paying $200+ a kit i'd say definitely not worth it. I got 6 kits so should be able to make a sweet display (although having 6 USB Power connections is a fkn pain)

  • Received my three sets.
gotta say, i'm a little disappointed.
The setting up, interface and overall experience is great.
Just coming from a background of making my own LED PCB's, etc
I'm not super impressed with the overall finish,
the 'squares' are notably brighter in the centre, fading to the edge / not very uniform colour.
there seems to be some sort of issue with response times on animations with fading to white colours. (it might be that submitting the animation to internal memory fixes most of the response issues, still checking that one)
and there seems to be pixel blooming - i.e. one pixel lights up the surrounding pixels ever so slightly.
Try the 'pong' animation - no perfect white lines, you get a mess of white and grey pixels everywhere.

The person that commented about DIY'ing is quite correct, you can build them for less money. Sure, the aesthetics won't be as nice, nor will be the ease of setup and configuration. BUT, the end light up result will be better!

Overall, at $99 for 6, it's a solid purchase for me (well, $297 for 3 sets of 6, less cashback, less voucher discount etc)….
at full retail, i'd have returned them and made my own

    • I also noticed the pixel blooming on pong. Strange. Thought they were individually lit?

      • They are!
Can’t find a tear down to understand what tech sits in these..(

Given the number of pins on each connector and their locations, it’s almost ‘industry standard’ for these types of displays.
, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s just an off the shelf P10 RGB panel (P10 being 10mm pixel spacing)

Would be interesting to grab one of thr cheap 16x32 ones off AliExpress to see if it jacks in!

The blooming is either a weird algorithm to ‘dither’ / anti-alias images,
Or it’s just a poor design for isolating pixels.

        Or a mix of both.

My DIY ones had zero blooming as I 3D printed a grid to block it.

        • Interested to know if the aliexpress ones work. Got a link please?

          • +1

@killabob: Nope as I’ve not fully researched yet / matched connector sizes / scan type etc.

Just look for ones with the multi row / pin connector each site

Just search P10 16x32 RGB LED panel and you’ll get dozens of hits.some under $20 shipped (sage LED store for example)

The P10 16x16 on there all seem to be relatively custom jobs using discreet LED’s so are more expensive

If these were WS2812 (or similar) addressable LED based, there would only need to be 4 conductors per connector
