Used code 24SS18 to knock 28 bucks off. Made it 210 AUD AFTER GST.

    • +1

      SS18 & 24SS18 are basically the same code. Both 'US$18 off US$129 Spend (A$28 off A$200 Spend)'

      • yep! this is a good deal if 3 people split it and get 10% extra off plus the next tier discount code lol

      • Ah! Didn't know, it showed me them separately.

Either way, GST was the cincher for me. 220 the other day and I'd have bitten, but 220 plus GST was a bit much. 210 total? (profanity) sold.

        Cheers OP!

  • +1

If you have coins it's extra 11% off ~185. Go to account - coins - discount finder - search for rg556

    • you'll need alot of coins like 2000 lol not sure if people have that many coins left after the recent deals

  • +2

Tempting but PS2 emulation isn't quite there yet.

    • +1

      Damn

    • +2

ps2 emulation pretty good in this vid - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-9-reR-0K9E

      • +1

At original resolution it's fine but games look so much better at 2x.

      • I stopped myself from buying after lookin at the graphic of ps2. Lol

    • So, the unobtainable RP4Pro deal would have smashed ps2 emulation?

      • +1

        It became obtainable!

      • +1

Doesn't smash ps2, but it is very playable on the rp4pro

    • Damn, that's shit. You mean in general or just on this device? Was hoping to pack my steam deck full of ps2 games for that there nostalgia hit.

      • +1

Your Steam Deck will be fine at multiple times standard resolution for most games, as with all emulators there will always be issues, but the Steam Deck can even handle some PS3 Games from what I have seen (I don't own one, but just based off what I've read/watched).

I believe that poster was talking about this device, which doesn't have great PS2 performance compared to its competitors. Honestly what kept me away until I realized I was about to buy a far more expensive device that was too big for my needs (ROG Ally or Steam Deck) until this came up as I was a bit too focused on power

  • this 1st deal was a phantom…..it didnt exist!!

    • The actual deal for the Retroid Pocket 4 Pro kicked in last night! Stock was found, and apparently already on its way…

      • What did you pay? I thought they jacked the price up.

        • These deals comes and goes, theres one for $170usd atm so $152 with the coupon. Just gotta keep searching through out the day as I'm finding prices for the same links fluctuates or sometimes just doesn't pop up.

        • $160 USD in the end, and I wasn't sure if I used the right coupon. I forgot to use my Ali coins, which happens late at night. Happy enough!

  • Been tossing up between Odin's or X86 handhelds etc, but at this price, and being the perfect size, have finally jumped. Can't refuse at that price. In an ideal world it's be Retroid Pocket 4 Pro levels of performance, but the screen on that is too small for me.

  • How does this compare to Trimui smart pro?

    • +2

Other than screen size (5" 720p LCD vs 5.5" 1080p OLED), on the Trimui from what I understand it will max out at some N64 and PSP, whereas the RG556 will do all that and also pretty good GameCube and some PS2 emulation.

  • Noticed they sell Odin 2 on Aliexpress now.

  • I'm looking for one which can be collected to an external display like switch ?

  • +1

Hanging out for the RG35XX H deal for my first hand-held.
Saw the last few deals but hadn't gone down the research rabbit hole.. I am ready now.

    • Have you considered the Trimui Smart Pro?

      • Yeah, I think its too bulky for my needs.
I'd rather a smaller handheld that isn't gonna give me crazy hand cramps. Just something to play on the train then quickly put in my pocket when I need to

        • I was going to say the H will give you cramps. It's too small IMO.

The Trimui also has an excellent sleep mode…in that it actually works. Unlike the H.

  • Are these types of consoles something I can play original GBA Pokemon/Mario games on? Is it hard to do?

    • +1

Yes you can, and not it is not hard at all.

Follow Russ' guide and you'll be laughing

      https://retrogamecorps.com/2024/02/24/anbernic-rg556-setup-g…

    • +1

If you just want those games, buy another device that's cheaper. These are.aimed at GameCube+ emulation.

Miyoo mini plus for pocket sized or trimui smart pro for similar form factor as this

    • You can use your smartphone

      • For me it is having a separate device, I can have my phone available for other things or away entirely. Plus detachable controllers just don't have the same solidity (why I prefer the Switch Lite over the regular Switch.)

    • +3

This unit is overkill for just GBA games. Trimui Smart Pro @ ~ $50 USD is great because of its large 16:9 screen which shows GBA 3:2 nicely.

  • How's this compared to that Retroid Pocket 4Pro deal from a few days ago ?

    • About same value/$ wise.

    • +1

      Less powerful than RP4P
Larger (pro or a con depending on your scenario)
Really great display (OLED) versus ‘alright’ display on the RP4P
More ergonomic to hold, without adding an additional grip

From memory there’s reports that either the joystick or d-pad isn’t amazing on the Ambernic. Can’t remember which.

Both are good and it depends what you want to prioritise.

      • Joysticks are average on the anbernic. Which kills it for me as the use case for this device would be for game streaming

  • Shipping is bad bad bad. Ordered a 35xxh about three months ago. Refunded as it never turned up. About to go through the refund process again because I thought “can’t happen again” and ordered the same.
    Currently “in transit”.
Maybe I’ll get lucky and have two magically appear on my doorstep…
    With this vendor too. Cutesliving.

    • +1

hmm bad luck dude, i've spent so much money on CUtesliving and 0% defect rate so far

      touch wood

      • thanks man. Kinda leaning towards going through it for a third time again… Right?? I really want this thing…

    • +1

I got an RP4P recently and it took about a week to arrive. So my experience has been good with them.

    • +1

I had trouble with Cutesliving. The website was showing the courier as Auspost but they were actually using iMile. I had to do the investigation all on my own. Got it eventually.

  • Great price

  • Apart from cheaper price, any benefit over say an S23 ultra with a controller?

    • +2

Not so much about better or not better - it’s just another collection hobby for me. Idk about everyone else but for me it’s probably the least expensive hobby I have - like if you were serious about ps2 emulation you’d prob be using a pc…

Then I guess there’s the angle of

      • compactness , it’s a small self contained unit ready to go whenever. If you commute to work via transport it can pretty much just live in your kit bag or whatever as opposed to having a controller and a phone and probably some kind of cradle/holder? Not many places to rest your phone and game with a control.

      • battery life I would expect to be better on this. Compared to playing on a phone

    • You wont be disapointed if you already have the phone. If you dont already own the phone thats a lot of money to drop for playing old games. Many have not aged well and are very hard to go back to. I got an s24 ultra this year just for gaming (lifelong apple user) currently with a gamesir x2s and i play everything up to switch which is a mess right now with the whole yuzu stuff. So dont buy anything for switch gaming atm other than a switch. We own 2 switches but it was cool playing games in a higher res on the phone. Im currently playing through gamecube games atm at 3-4x native res on my phone and they look insane compared to what i see on the tv when i plug in a wii and play the same games. I can't remember what upscaling you can use for ps2 but i do remember psp as i recently finished gta vice city stories with 10x upscaling and it looked amazing compared to the native device. Not many of even the expense retro devices have the power to do that. I have a modded vita which i thought was the gold standard for psp games but the phone being able to play in such a high res makes the games look fantastic and feel more like they've been remastered. You can also plug your phone into a tv and play with a wireless controller as well like a traditional console. PC gaming is also geting better on android. You can look up on youtube fallout3/4 and people are playing them on the snapdragon android devices. Theres still a long way to go with compatability and optimisation but the straight up power of the snapdragon phones cant be ignored. I have 6 diff retro gaming devices like these and the only time i dont use my phone now is if i want to play old school aspect ratio stuff. PowKiddy RGB30 for that or someimtemes my hacked 3DS

  • don't know how heavy is it.

    • Roughly 340 grams, compared to about 400 grams on a Nintendo Switch or 276 on a Switch Lite

    Sold out now

  • Received mine, unfortunately my screen has vertical banding on greys which apparently isn't that uncommon but also isn't as expected, so hopefully Cutesliving will sort it out.

Otherwise great, immediately did the analogue fix through unlocking the bootloader (which I likely wouldn't have done had I known the screen had an issue) as i figured if it wipes it anyway, may as well do it from day 1.

Link to analogue fix/bootloader unlock if anyone interested. https://github.com/TheGammaSqueeze/Bootloader_Unlock_Anberni…
