  • What is the output lumens? There is not details in your site

    • Hi Bappy,

Thanks for your question, the downlight is rated at 650 lumens for Warm White and 670 lumens for Cool White.

I hope that helps - if there's any other questions just let me know, or use the live chat feature in the store.

  • $22 for 1 downlight is still pricy … i don't think it will breakeven for me. I'll rather wait till these LEDs drop prices due to mass adoption of LED as a standard.

    • True I first thought that, but when you look at the beam angle of 60 degrees if thats true then thats more accepting.. Cheap ebay ones are narrow more like spotlight.

    • If they are really 670 lumens, they replace 50W halogens, and save about 1c/hr per lamp.
So 2 hrs/day for 3 years… I'd replace halogens now if they have more than 2hrs/day use, otherwise wait.

$22 is very cheap, if they are decent quality, and the claimed lumens.
OTOH, the rep used the weasel words "is rated at", so they may well be total crap.

Are Epistar LEDs (what model??) at all comparable to Cree, Seoul and Philips?

tbh 1c/hr per lamp is crap savings. it will never break even at that sort of rate.

it's not like the sort of savings you'd get with replacing incandescent with CFLs.

and yes… dislike the weasel words.

tbh 1c/hr per lamp is crap savings

If this is 10W and it replaces a 50W, then it saves 40W. That is 0.04kWh and the current domestic rate is about 28c/kWh. Hence 1.12c/hr… which is nothing to be sneazed at.

it will never break even at that sort of rate

          <MOD: Remove personal attack>

We run our kitchen downlights about 8 hours per day. That is about 3000 hours per year, so these would give $30 saving per year.

Assuming zero cost for the existing light, then $22 will be payed back in 2,200 hours. Much less than a year in most households.

that's a big assumption, you don't inherit that existing light for free.

here's right back at you, never been taught to be good with money?

it is not $30 savings per year (and it will never be), this is what happens when you bring elementary maths calculation into real life. You add the cost you paid for the old one, if you are not replacing broken ones, then work out how long this current LED is going to last you. Then work out the breakeven. This is excluding the time and effort needed to install them in the first place.

news for you, IF you think $30 a year is a big deal, not running that lights for 8 hours a day and run for 2 hours a day you will save at least two times that a year.

i don't assume. i know it will not breakeven unless the replacement led price is lower.

but no worries, if you think 1c/hr is a big wow, go ahead mate. No skin off my nose. my comment isn't meant for you, in fact I encourage you to run the lights for 24/7.

      • 670 lumens doesn't replace a 50W 12V halogen (900 lumens). And that's not allowing for the 30% or more drop in output over life.

If on day 1 it really is 670 lumens (which is doubtful) then it's design output (practical output) is about 470lm. That means it's about the same output as a 20W IRC halogen, or maybe a 50W GU10 240V lamp.

Still OK, but certainly not "equal" to a proper 12V 50W lamp. That said, no retrofit 10W LED can genuinely match a 50W halogen.

      • Hi Manic,

No weasel words intended here - we offer a 30 day return policy in case you change your mind or unhappy with your purchase.

Cree are market leaders but Epistar are widely used and very reliable. We also offer a 5 year warranty on these globes.

Again, we offer 30 days returns with no questions asked.

        Hope that helps,
        Matthew

  • Any MR16 bulbs?

  • Hello Rep,
Sorry to be a badger but just wondering if you could answer a few of my questions about my recent purchase before I sign up for anything else.

    • I purchased 5x of these lights, but it wouldn't accept the Frenzy code. Is this correct?
    • I also unticked the box saying don't send me newsletters etc, but after my purchased i still received an email advertising the LED downlights that i just purchased. Which also stated the FRENZY code to receive 10% off, but doesn't say anything about not being able to use on these downlights, "Get 10% off everything storewide!"
    • Even though i've hit unsubscribe, can you ensure that I am removed from you marketing list?
    • Can you confirm the 5y warranty will mean the globe is replaced if it dies within the 5 years? I can't see any warranty conditions.

    Thank you

    • HI int21h,

No problem- heres some quick answers to your questions

      • The Frenzy code applies to everything in the store except the LED promo, which has already been reduced by over 50%. This is outlined in the Click frenzy deal terms.
      • If you clicked unsubscribe you have been removed from the list - i can confirm your email address has been opted out.
      • Warranty is for 5 years and will be replaced if anything goes wrong. You can contact [email protected] for any warranty claims or use the live chat feature onsite

If you do have any other questions feel free to give us a call or use the live chat feature onsite

      Hope that helps,
      Matthew
