        OSVR project is considered dead

  • Does the HDK2 come with the full kit including belt clip, or it is just the headset and cables?

Can this VR headset work with most games? Or is it very niche?

    • Software support for this headset has been abandoned pretty much 7 years ago. While it can still made to work with SteamVR, it lacks so many things you'd want in a good VR headset, it's pretty much just a collectors item.

If you want a PC compatible VR headset for cheap, a used Quest1 and long USB cable is a much better option. However, many standalone Quest games have dropped support for the Quest1 and it's no longer officially supported. Still great for PCVR for super cheap though.

More expensive would be a used Quest2, which then also allows playing standalone games and is still a great headset, supported by most games on the Meta Quest store.

      • Ok thanks. I enjoyed the gimmick of VR on my Samsung Galaxy Note 4 with the first occulus headset. Can you watch movies easily on the Razer?

        • this is an abandon project…
not sure if there is any movie players that will work with it..
or how hard it is to setup one.

      • do you own one?

how do you watch 3d / VR movies or install new apps?

how is the quality of 3d / VR movies?

        • Do you mean HDK2 or Quest1?

HDK2 will work (poorly) with SteamVR,

Quest1 can still be setup, apps can be downloaded from the store, but many apps have dropped support. I think Virtual Desktop still supports it. Quest Link should also still work and you use that to connect it to the PC.

If you want a more future proof solution, Quest 2 is the way to go

          • @skyworxx:

Do you mean HDK2 or Quest1?

            yeah I meant the HDK2..
so you own the Quest 1?

so what app would be need to watch VR/3D movies the HDK2?
And would the resolution be similar to Quest 1 or worse?

Can I install steam VR games and will it just display on the HDK2 when I run it in windows?

HDK2 will work (poorly) with SteamVR,

what do you mean by poorly?

If you want a more future proof solution, Quest 2 is the way to go

what bundle do you recommend to get?

also is the HDK2 good enough if we just want to try out and get a taste of VR games + 3d / VR movies?

Don't want to spend alot for the Quest 2 or Quest 3 if it ends up collecting dust.
I've read where some people were excite at first and it has just lost interest quite after a while.

  • HDK2' tracking poor and jittery. The screen is more than just the resolution and refeshrate. It has significant blurring compared to newer headsets.

All in all, this will not be a good or even acceptable first VR experience.

I'd recommend trying out a Quest at a friend's place instead. Heck, even a used Oculus Rift would be better. Razer HDK was never a real product. It was them riding the VR hype and then immediately dropping support the moment the hype passed (arguably even before)
