Does anyone know if you can use the 1080p dual mode as a box in the centre of the screen without scaling being performed or if it has to be stretched across the whole thing? If it doesn't have to be stretched to 32 inches this would be an interesting option for people who play FPS titles without needing a second monitor.

      yes

here it is demonstrated by our boy

Awesome, very glad to see this. Would be great to be able to have one less monitor in my next setup.

        • please watch a little bit more after the timestamp. the 24 1080 and 27 1080 arent as sharp as the 32 1080. he has side by side comparisons and explains why

@Bacons: Thanks for that, it seems like this boils down to non-integer scaling and shoddy scaling implementation on a monitor. What I'd really like to see is this technology on a 48 inch display. The 24 inch dual mode section would be exactly half the width and height and simply use half the vertical and hortizontal pixel amount for scaling. If LG does another 48 inch OLED monitor in the UltraGear line this would be killer.

  • This or 43" C4 for the same price?

    • I suppose it comes down to… 120hz or 240hz?

      • +1

It comes down to what your GPU can pump out.

        • Depends if you play mainly fps or you want the screen size

If you're using it as a gaming monitor, then this, hands-down. A dedicated gaming monitor with similar or superior specs will always be better than a TV if you're using it for desktop PC gaming. The TV is bigger but has annoying quirks, like ABL kicking in and also automatic sleep not being a thing.

I'm using a 42" LG C2 and it's nice, but I would prefer a proper OLED gaming monitor with better specs (which wasn't available at the time).

    • How far away can you put your monitor? If less than 85cm then go the 32".

The day that OzBargain deals had a $99 monitor and $1799.25 monitor.

    • +5

      There's a $77 monitor too.

Awesome. For me the 100hz IPS 1440p for $189 was the nicest recent deal, but I'm tempted to string a bunch of $77s or $99s together for fun on a secondary PC.

Missed that one, looks good. I bought a $77 one to play around with.

      Different tax brackets.

Just got one, plus you get $50 off for new LG members, thank you OP
    Order Total $1,749.25

Unless the 1080p is really important, the QD-OLED panels are cheaper, have wider gamuts (esp in AdobeRGB), and the Dell AW3225QF also supports Dolby Vision.

  • My father currently is using a 27 inch monitor but his eyesight is not what it used to be. I was thinking of getting a larger monitor for him. All he uses it for is paperwork type stuff, so no graphics or gaming.

Would a 32 inch be too big for that purpose? He says the 27 inch is fine but I think bigger would be easier to see font.

There's also this 32 inch monitor which is a quarter of the price. I don't know anything about monitors.

No gaming means this monitor is 100% overkill and unnecessary. Save the money and get anything basic.

Unless you think he'd take advantage of the smart TV like features, I'd go for an IPS like this Lenovo. I feel at 32" you'd end up looking at it from sufficiently off angle to see colour shifting on VAs like the Samsung you linked.

Sticking with UHD so you can scale the UI for extra sharpness.

A 32" monitor would be ideal for your dad — I'd suggest a 1440p or even a 1080p resolution at this size. The latter will have big chunky pixels, but might be ideal for your dad's bad eyesight. Definitely no need to shell out extra for a fast gaming monitor, a regular 60Hz productivity monitor is fine for office use.

The one you linked will do fine — it's 4K resolution so that's why it costs a bit more, but you can easily scale the user interface in Windows/macOS/Linux so that everything is nice and big and sharp.

    • If eye sight is an issue, don't get 4K 32", as the pixels will be still very small. 1440p 32" might be the way to go, assuming his current monitor is 1440p 32".

140 PPI at 32inch makes this good for gaming but nothing else

    • +2

      delusional take

    • +4

Hard disagree - the whole point of this monitor is to be the ultimate all in one. Bit of productivity use 4K. Need some sweaty lunchtime FPS, switch to 1080p 480hz mode.

  • Name checks out.

Thinking of biting the bullet and buying, but no burn-in warranty by LG is worrying

    • +1

Burn in is covered afaik. Also basic au consumer law covers you for at least 2 years regardless.

  • I'd totally buy this, but then I'd have one IPS monitor next to an OLED, and it would look weird. Need to wait until I can get 2 x of these -.-

  • +5

There's also 8% cashback for LG via cashrewards until 17th June for an extra ~$130 off.

  • Have been lurking the site for monitors deals, and have set my mind on 2x 32 curved". My use case is playing MOBAs, watching shows and potentially plugging into work computer whenever I WFH. This is definitely overkill but would anyone have a reocmmendations?

    • If you're on a budget, and you don't need more than 60hz, consider getting dual Dell S3221QS set up. If budget is not so much an issue, I would ditch the curved screens and get 2 x Dell G3223Q.

  • Goodbye tax return money in a couple of weeks

  • Seems like the 'Pre-orders' are now sold out on the LG Website

  • +1

G8 32 OLED is much better deal
Not sure if still ongoing tho

    • +2

G8 32 since you can get a better deal via Samsung app and the monitor has built in speakers too

    • Also brighter, and wider gamut

  • Can this be price matched with JB?

  • is this glossy? anyone got glossy oled monitors to recommend?
