EVs are the GPUs of 2024.

      • The depreciation is on par with GPU's.

  • If I live in vic but buy from Canberra do I save $2k or is there a catch?

    • +1

Isn’t the price difference due to stamp duty exemptions/rates between states?

    • +1

      is there a catch?

You end up with a ACT registered car and then have to 'pay' to transfer it over to a VIC rego.

  • -2

I sold my BYD for $48k LOL

  • Have been tempted to purchase an atto 3. HODL?

  • -4

Did you steal my Facebook post? :)

BTW, the heating/cooling change is now Dual-Zone Climate Control.

Still about $9M in the EV rebate kitty in QLD too!

  • when will the $11K seagull arrived in Australia? Even adding tax shall be only $16K, I am waiting for that!

    • If it ever arrives it’s certainly not going to be $16K. It will be at least $20K but likely closer to $25K.

    • I saw it reported as 15k, USD.

It's going to be 35k here, that's what our market will pay and still purchase in large volumes.

      • No chance it’s that expensive given the Dolphin now starts @$37K.

      • USD15,000 is AUD22500, not 35k.

        • Sure, but since when do we pay the same price for cars as the USA?

There is always an extra markup in Australia as increasing the price by 10k doesn't lose as many sales as it would in the USA, so profit maximising companies charge us more.

    • +1

It won't. All companies here specifically don't bring their cheap models anymore because we have more spending money than most countries so they bring in the expensive ones for us to splurge on.

      • +1

You'd be surprised how many ordinary workers can't, or won't, pay $50,000+ for a new car. There would be a huge market for a non-premium EV for $25,000.

        • Of course there would. But overall we have more money so they wouldn't bring the cheaper models anymore. Only the expensive ones so we spend our hoarded money.

Literally the reason why we're experiencing inflation right now and most products are increasing in prices. Because we have the ability to spend more.

  • It's funny how in Qld the Atto deliveries in March 2024 for 23 models are similar cost to 2024 models

    March 2024 $53000 drive away - $3500 byd secret rebate - $6000 Qld gov ev rebate = $43500

    The new model $49000 drive away - $6000 ev rebate = $43000

    Ok I rounded I know

The BYD Seal has a better design than Atto ?

    • Seal is a much better car, but Atto3 is a SUV, which people like.

      • I wonder how much "% roomier" is the atto3 compared to Seal?

        • Seal is very roomy even in the back seats, have been in Atto3, i didnt notice much but again very brief atto3 usage and wasnt exactly comparing difference but also cargo space is where the atto3 has the advantage i would say

  • +1

Pre covid an average Joe usually can negotiate at least 10% off a car..

Post covid with such brands we can only depend on them giving the discount.

    • Pre-COVID no one is negotiating prices with the BYD or Tesla sales model. They tell you the price and you pay it or you wait for them to lower prices.

      • I guess u missed my point nevermind.

        • Sorry, what was your point if not this?

Pre covid an average Joe usually can negotiate at least 10% off a car..

      • Way better imo. I don't want to have to negotiate bs with some tool.

        • Yeah exactly especially when they tell you "no way i can do it for that" but then keeps hassling non stop once you have left and no longer interested and have found an alternative, all of sudden they can do it for the price and throw in some extras, after what lol

  • is this a good NL option?

    • +2

      Most definitely.

    • Yes. I'm biased towards the Seal, though. I think it looks a hundred times better inside and outside. The legroom is excellent, but the boot space suffers. Plus it sits low, since it's a sedan.

There are more EV companies set to arrive next year than there are EV models available now: Zeekr, Smart, Jaecoo, Xpeng, Leapmotor, Skywell, GAC, Aion, Jetour, Changan Deepal, Geely, Lynk & Co, and Nio.

While True, Tesla sales were up 75% in China. These other makers are not making a dent in the market and struggling to stay afloat and now trying to offload their rubbish cars here.

      • I think it's difficult to make comparisons to Australia with that information. Chinese culture is different, people with money are more likely to spend it on status symbols rather than a local brand

        • +1

True, just suprised to see the Tesla demand in China grow, goes against what the media is telling us. How many times now was the competition going to wipe Tesla out.

    • Half of those will never make it here.

    • The cherry on the cake

    • +5

It looks like a list of the random brands of power banks on Ozb

      • I was just thinking that, never heard of any of those companies!

        • Bet you didn't hear about BYD a couple of years ago as well, now they are the largest EV maker.

      • I mean they kind of are random battery bank company's lol

  • Down, down, down to (profanity) town

  • If this is not a short term sale and a proper down trend.

Japanese ICE cars would be in trouble.
Now their cars are same price with a byd or a Tesla.

They have to lower their prixe too.

If last year I did not buy a new ice car iwould definitely jump on a a byd or a Tesla.

Next year when im going to replace my 2nd car. It would be a non brainer to get an EV if the price are like todays price or similar and Japanese and Korean ice/hybrid cars not going on sale.

    • Japanese ICE cars would be in trouble.
Now their cars are same price with a byd or a Tesla.

Welcome to the party that Tesla and BYD are playing at.

Tesla prices are low, but they can make a profit on them at these prices, all while legacy OEMs can't. So legacy is slow at coming to the party as like what we have seen from Toyota with its first EV. It was a meh, over priced for what it offers and lacking all round. So why would anyone buy it?

    • There are still many people who cannot change to EVs due to living in apartments, living in places where they cannot park and charge their car. ICE still offers greater choices for people in trades. The availability of hybrids for many Japanese cars will keep them relevant for years to come.

      • Yes, but the Japanese ICE/Hybrids will lose at least 30% market share at minimum when EVs are same price as their cars.
THey will eventually have to drop their prices further.

Covid gave them the perfect storm for the ICE/Hybrids cars to thrive.. but I'm seeing the perfect storm that will smash them back to lowering their prices within a years time.

  • +4

    take another 20k off.

    • I wish…

    • +2

That like asking Toyota to take 20k off their Corolla and Camry. Add in the Kluger.

  • How much will it be in 2 weeks though?

  • +5

Have one of these at work
Great fun to drive, this instant smooth torque is phenomenal

Only gripes are with the hate it or love it interior and rather tacky blue/white/red trim.

    Everything else is spot on.

Still think this would only be worth in the high 30's low 40's. Looking at the Chinese Market prices we are getting royally fcuked

BYD should have a budget version of Atto 3. Price should be $33000 driveaway no more to pay. No need sunroof ,leather seats..alloy wheels;;heated seats ..guitar strings ..etc etc…Then it will be the end of Toyota Corolla Cross.

    • +1

That would be something similar to the Yuan Up which is a bit smaller than the Atto 3 but would be around that sort of price.

      • +2

The Yuan Up is similar size to the Toyota Yaris Cross and cost US $16k in China. If the Yuan Up comes to Australia and sells @ A$ 27k then it will be the end of the Toyota Yaris Cross. When the EV vehicles are on price parity with ICE vehicles…or cheaper ….then the uptake of the EVs will accelerate.

        • It’s so hard to pick what will come here and how they’ll price them though and the Yuan Up would probably have to sit between the Dolphin and Atto 3 and there’s not much wiggle room there. I certainly can’t see it being priced below the Dolphin despite how low the China pricing is.

        • Im pretty sure that argument isnt one anymore
Look at current EV prices and ICE equivalents its on par
What ICE/Hybrid SUVs go for even regular atto3 extended rand price $51k+plus ORC or Tesla Y starting from 56K
WHat about sedans ? Seal dynamic is 50k + ORC
and so on, yes legacy automakers that have EV options need better pricing as they are overpriced for what they offer but EV brands now have comparable pricing to ICE alternatives
you cant compare what the car costs in another country, regardless of the reasons and factors why its cheaper in China is irrelevant because your not buying it there, its not like your buying something from AliExpress that you can buy direct from the manufacturer and have it shipped to your door

  • Say if I sign a deal at middle of April 2025 (as the rebate end on the 10th May 2025), I am still eligible for the 3.5k rebate in WA?

Every has a choice yet also bear its consequence.
I love OZbargain because we help each other. Even if some BYD 'fans' doesn't like this comment, I still publish and wait for your thumb-down.
This comment is to provide insider info to potential buyers who know little if any about this BYD brand.
    1. BYD is born in china. A lot of my friends, school mates bought it because of low price. Most of them upgrades to Great Wall, Haval, Toyota, etc because of BYD quality issues. For example, BYD doesn't use Zinc-plated steel on some models in China (Zinc-plated steel is a type of steel that has been coated with zinc. The zinc coating provides a layer of protection to the underlying steel. This type of steel is also known to be corrosion resistant.) Then drive quality and NVH drop dramatically when car is reaching 5-7 years. Every one in China knows that so resell value of BYD is considerable low.
    2. BYD hired a lot of paid posters in china so my friends complained about BYD but a loooots of paid poster pop up suddenly to disguise the poor build quality. He finally went to the BYD dealer in China but BYD said it's normal. He guess part of BYD paid posters is AI. But none of us has solid proof.
    3. BYD dealers in AU seems not owned by its mother group. After several years, there won't goodwill repair if a lot of cars have quality issue. Are you going to bet BYD make quality car for us despite low quality cars sold in China?
    4. BYD is low profile brand even in China, it doesn't represent china's car industry. If you like it, bought one and downgrade this comment. As I mentioned, every has a choice yet also bear its consequence. Good luck BYD 'fans'

Forget another point of BYD unrealistic or brainwashing marketing

Available in five trims, priced from US$13,750 to US$19,300
My friends and I had a crack when it comes to market. It is just too good to be true.

    • -1

This comment will be thumb-down by a lot of paid poster.
For genuine potential buyers, ask you legit Chinese friends:
Is BYD a quality brand in china?
Why most of BYD driving on the road are 1-3 years new car?
Where are the middle aged BYD?
Have you or your friend been bullied by paid posters online?

      • +5

Wasn't BYD introduced to the Australian market in 2022? That should explain why all the BYD's are 1-3 years old…

        • You need to read context. The 4 questions are targeted for BYD in china. If you like BYD, just buy it.

      • -3

My friends and I get bullied by BYD owners online and on the road on a daily basis. I thought the drivers were the issue but glad to know it is their cars.

        • -1

You and your friends get bullied daily by BYD owners on the road and online? How does that even happen? Are you sure you aren't the problem?

      • How much did Elon pay you?

        • 88 means rich in Chinese so I assume you read Chinese.
I know BYD hired a lot of paid commenter. Don't be rude.

Curious on anyone who’s dug deeper to consider Atto 3 vs Tesla Y particularly given the price drops ?

I do currently favour the Tesla, not sure why - think I just have subconsciously thought byd are lower quality flimsy plastic with buggy software, maybe an unfair opinion from the early reports but that’s probably changed.

Have got 3 kids (one is a baby in child seat plus 2 teens) so imagine we would be squishing into any of these and most of the space taken up by pram etc. thinking of moving from a large diesel SUV.

    Tesla
    + charging network
    + minimalistic / superior interior
    + slightly more boot space
    - no Apple CarPlay
    - more expensive

    BYD
    + cheaper
    + Apple CarPlay
    + future V2L/V2G support (potentially)?
    - lower quality (subjective/opinion)

    • BYD already has V2L but not V2G or V2B and will unlikely support it. Sometimes in 2025 both should come through on all Tesla models.

I think they are both similar quality. Re software I think Tesla's systems are a little better but BYD is more of your traditional car.

I have a Mazda 3 and will be moving to. BYD Seal this month after spending a week in and Atto. With a Novated lease it is a no brainer for me.

      • I'm assuming when Tesla does V2L/G/etc it will be a physical model change rather than a software update? As it would need an external power port I expect? Unless it sends power through the charging inlet? So if this was important, one would be better to wait until it's available ?

        • Yes, The current charing port on the Tesla's doesn't allow for this so they will be changing the hardware out to the system used on the new Powerwall 3. The new charging port will put power in and out, the same way it does on the BYD. Their main use case is for you to plug into the Tesla Wall Connector and then to power the house that way. I am sure you will be able to get an adapter for V2L but I would not expect any powerpoints like we see in the Hyundai vehicles. This would go against the Musk minimalist agenda. I could be wrong.

If this was important I would wait until next year. I need a new car now (the current one has 280,000km and is due for some major things like tyres, brakes etc) so this has pushed me further toward the BYD as I would like V2L for camping and the sporadic backup at home.

    • Tesla charges quicker and network so better for road trips
      Tesla is bigger
Byd has compulsory services for warranty

So byd for city driving or a second car
