NORTON Security 2013 3 User + 5GB Online Back up. Outlay $34.90 and Then Get $40 Cashback

1260

Ok, so here is my first post on this site. So hope everyone enjoys it as I know we all like to get a bargain.

Here is a deal whereby you can obtain Norton Antivirus at DSE for $34.90 with shipping and then claim a $40.00 rebate from Norton. Therefore obtaining Norton Anti Virus for free and having enough change to get a free lunch.

http://au.norton.com/now/en/AU_SITE/pu/images/Promotions/201…

Who ever said there is no such thing as a free lunch??

You could also get office works to price match if you wish to pick up in store and get an extra 5% discount.

Unsure why it is this cheap, perhaps a mistake given this is $98 at most places.

Enjoy

    • Do you really trust Microsoft?

      • Hell no, I replaced Windows defender with Avast! right after I finished installing Windows 8.

I find the Norton haters hard to take seriously. I'be used Norton NIS for more than ten years on a succession of laptops, netbooks and desk tops, never had an intrusion incident in all that time (with DAILY use) and when I've needed assistance (usually with licence renewals) Norton (Symantec) support is online (real people) 24 x 7!! Really could not have been better performance and service over the long run….Oh and I bought the DSE deal….thanks Mr Jeep!

Above-all, they were known for making bloatware, that would turn expensive hardware into a Celeron, and was hard to remove. To stick with one brand through all those years, despite tons of repeated negative press/reviews, and a top-end price… Fanboi.

      • +1

At the risk of being flamed I have to agree with cornucopia.. mostly.

I have been repairing PCs for around 13 years, so I have seen my fair share of virus infections, and Norton installations.

Prior to it's redesign in 2009 Norton 100% deserved its reputation for being utter crap. It would transform a PC that ran fine without anti-virus to a machine that ran slow as molasses. Every year that went by they would add more and more bloat.
Finally in 2009 after receiving huge amounts of terrible reviews/feedback they wrote an entirely new antivirus from scratch - and it actually turned out pretty good! It now has a very low impact on system performance and runs pretty lean and mean. By no means is it perfect but it doesn't deserver the bashing it still gets from everyone that remembers how bad it used to be.
For the price of -$5 it's hard to argue that it is bad value!

MSE used to be fantastic, very low impact on performance, good detection, virtually 0 false positives, FREE. Problem is MS hasn't been as diligent in keeping it up to date to protect from new viruses. And because it is now so popular it has become targeted by virus makers and many new viruses can either bypass it or even disable it.

Avast seems the best overall free AV to me, and is always kept up to date. Some people tend to get confused by the free yearly registration process though.

    Scintillating deal

Antivirus should be subsidised from the government anyway. The economic/social costs justify it IMO. Instead they leave all manner of education and production to the private sector.

It only gets tricky when the government can coerce AV providers to add "extra" features though.

    • "Antivirus should be subsidised from the government anyway" And the government gets all its money from the people in the form of taxes. We end up paying for it anyway.

      • Yea, i'd rather people just download some free stuff and less taxes for all. The problem is that the government should have a viral campaign (like metro did) to alert everyone the importance to simply download something like MSE.

  • Anybody got the cash back already. Are you sure if it's entitled to the cash back? It just mentioned NIS in the description, not NIS 2013 3Users.

  • Nice 1st post OP.

Would like to know if it works as I got a feeling it won't.

Someone please confirm once you have succeeded.

    • OP already posted - bought, claimed cash-back, works.

  • It is a good AV suite. Current the best according to PCMag

  • Hi Sounds like good offer but ,I was reading Terms and conditions for rebate .
    it says on point 5
    http://au.norton.com/now/en/AU_SITE/pu/images/Promotions/201…

    that

"The Offer is not valid in conjunction with any other rebate or bonus offer(s) except in-box bonus items."

So just wondering is it eligible for cashback? (as rebate $40 is more than its sale price $29)

  • Bought:
    DSAU_XS1409WEB
    1 x
    NORTON I Security 2013 3U+NOBU includes 5GB N.Online Back Up

Well I hope that the risk of "Ozbargain furor/backlash" will be insurance against the cashback not working :P

Guys, I have already purchased and claimed my rebate prior to posting this deal.

No issues at all with claiming cash back!!!!!!

    • -3

You don't have to, but for absolute peace of mind do you have any records/image of the cash back that you could post up, Mr Jeep?

You already have far superior customer service (and I imagine eventually up to 100 positive votes to your name) - it'd just be icing on the cake =)

Looks like a no from Mr Jeep ><

Good deal for the ones who want Norton.
I used to have it years ago, then moved to Avira. Never regret about it.
Avira is made in Germany, Norton - in US. So, the quality of products is correlated with a country of origin.

    • Have you ever eaten a German meal?? How many German restaurants have you been to, ever?? How many German CDs in your Rock collection? ' So much for 'country of origin' theory!! The Germans do SOME things well, not EVERYTHING!!

      • Mate, do not get me wrong. I have nothing against US at all, but imho US lost a lot of its spirit within last 20 years or so.
So, when you say quality, for me it means Germany or Japan.
I know they've outsorced a lot stuff as well but they still have very high quality control and production standards.
Anyway, answering your question, most of my electronic goods made in Germany or Japan. My car made in Japan. My DSLR made in Japan as well.
Again I do not want to say that all American stuff is bad : "The Americans do SOME things well, not EVERYTHING." ;-)
btw I voted positive as if you want Norton, it is a very good deal.

        • Check again, if You bought those products recently, they might be designed in Japan and assembled in China :)

        • P&S (with a lens made in Germany), DSLR and a car all made in Japan. I reckon some of my lenses assembled in Thailand, from components produced in Japan.

    • +1

You might as well say Hail Avira!

Actually alot of software is out sourced to India and China nowadays. So I wouldn't shop software based on country of the brand's origin, to do that would just be…weird!

    • Avira is very highly regarded for it's high detection rates and low system impact.

It doesn't have a very user friendly interface though and isn't as user friendly in general as other AVs.

      • If you have any particular difficulties with Avira interface, I am more than happy to help you, mate.
I was not to happy when they added one more pop up screen for virus detection in version 10 but overall its interface is quite intuitive.

  • Is this product subscription based? If so, then I assume that the 2013 version only gives you updates for one year?

    • I had used 2010 code to extend my 2011 subscription, so year naming is useless. Fact is you make a purchase, you are entitled to 12 months, regardless of which year, it'll most likely be moved to the latest version anyway.

  • OP: Do you have to activate all 3 keys to claim the cashback?

    • You just have to activate one key.

    • +1

It only comes with a single key. That single key is entitled to 3 activations on 3 different computers. But you only have to do it on 1 computer to claim the cashback.

  • it was too good to miss. had to buy it. thanks OP.

  • Can you get this in store?

    • Only online.

  • I've called the product support hotline and tried to find out more about this deal. Shockingly no one in the call centre knows about this $40 rebate. I had to spend 30mins on the phone, got transferred among their teams and had to educate them about this offer, even needed to spell out the URL of the Norton rebate offer…

  • my family is only 1/3 way through my current subscription so does that mean the other 2/3 will be wasted since i need ti activate this?

    • +4

Once you activate the new key, contact the online support, they can stack the new key onto the old which will extend your current subscription by 12 months

    • +2
      • +3

yes you can and it even says so in the conditions you linked to..

"But if you have time left on your current subscription, this doesn't mean you have to miss out on the rebate. Go ahead and install your new Norton product - then contact Norton Product Support and ask to have the remaining days on your old subscription transferred to your new subscription."

I have been doing this for years without any issues. I have been paid by Norton to have 360 on my PC's each year. I am very happy with the last 3 versions of 360, the ones before that were resource hogs and terrible.

        • thanks guys!

  • Hi OP, When you did the claim, did it ask you to attach receipt?

    • +1

      Last week, receipt not required

      • thanks

  • Is it possible to install on 1 computer only? But renew it every year for 3 years? Instead of using it for 3 computers.

    • no

Price matched at officeworks for a bit over $28 and claimed the cashback. Flashed the guy serving me my iphone with the dse link and he seemed hesitant but didn't say anything, over in a minute.

    Cheers op :)

  • Price matched at office works in North sydney, but those guys added the shipping as this deal is online only. So it was price match on product + shipping.

I have taken cash back earlier from Norton and they send you a bank cheque after few weeks ( 6-8)

    • OW Nunawading didn't worry about shipping so got it for $28 instead of close to $80.

  • Price matched at Officeworks for 5% discount and used my ING tap and go card to save another 5%. Thanks OP.

  • -2

Heads up, its now $29.90 at Dick Smith in their Click Frenzy sale!

    Edit: link added

    • +2

Price match at Officeworks for 5% discount and used an ING tap and go card to save another 5%.

      getting cheaper and rebate++++

      • Office works will (usually) include price of delivery as it is an online only deal. So $33.15 as posted at start of deal. Others have pointed that out - but got to love the ING 5% off at Officeworks or RACQ etc Gift Cards with 5% off at DS online. Or just order 4 & get at $29.95 each - free delivery.

        • Damn, I missed out on heaps of extra savings.

    • Heads up, its the same deal & link is to same product & price!!
      $29.95 plus $4.95 post (no click & collect) = $34.90 = same price.

  • Anyone knows how to claim the cashback if I already have Norton 360 installed?

Can I just type in the licence code into my Norton Account and get the cashback and time extension? Or do I have to uninstall N360, install NIS, claim cashback, ask for time extension, and then re-install N360?

    • Call Support and Let them know what you want.
Support did it for me. They are quite good.
      Steps:Tech. performed.
Uninstall 360. Installed Norton Int. security.
added code. Activated code under the same email address. Applied for rebate and added the time left for my 360 to this account.

If you have multiple packs. They will add the days for all packs.

  • I've used NIS for several years & it works ok. Some years ago it was heavy on resources but in the last few years it is much leaner. Its good for scanning downloaded files. I have come across 1 or 2 problematic files with it. You're probably paying for the customer service more than anything &, its good service. NIS isn't a bad security setup, I'm just not sure if its the best, these days.

    :-)

  • The Offer is claimable via online redemption to Symantec via the www.norton.com/anz/cashbacks website. No postal claim option is available. Multiple claims cannot be made for a single valid purchase. The Offer is not transferable or exchangeable.

Does it mean if i buy 5 NIS i can't claim back all ?

  • Bought NORTON Security 2013 - 2012 version arrived!!
(Still has 3 User + 5GB Online Back up.)

    • Mine too. I love Star Track express. :D

      • Yes fast… But shouldn't this be the advertised 2013 version, not 2012 delivered???

        • +1

nah, cos you download the updates and it's still valid for a year if the key works.

        • Knew that - just should have said on DS site - that this is 2012 version & upgrades via downloads to 2013. Still valid for $40 cashback.

        • Edit

  • I don't want anyone here to judge me but Norton security might just have improved drastically when Symantec bought them. I'm impressed. :D

    • Sounds good!

  • Product has arrived!~

  • Awesome Norton is paying us to use their products

  • Mr Jeep please message me as I really need to ask you a question.

2x Rebates lodged, 2 more to do tomorrow

    1. Install from CD, enter first code.
    2. Click on Support - Enter product code, and enter in 2nd code.
    3. Repeat if you want to for each additional year.
    4. Contact support, i choose chat - easiest without needing to call - took about 5 min to wait in queue, then jsut tell them
    5. 'Consolidate my activations into a single key', then just tell them which you are on, they may ask you for serial, so open up Support - Help - About and quote them the 'Serial Key'.
    6. Done.

    7. Go lodge that Rebate claim! (no purchase validation - the activation of key does that apparently) - just select where you purchased it and some address details and name, done!

    Very easy.

    Hope this helps someone

    • Thanks Hippo2s, I got one today from OW (saves $1.35) however a bit afraid of purchasing more than one pack.

IMO, even though you are allowed to lodge multiple Rebates (it's just a simple web system without strict verification), it does not assure the multiple $40 cash back will be approved later (maybe by human)

Does the terms and conditions mention anything about this? I'm not quite clear some clauses.

      • Make the claim under the name of your partner, brother, sister, daughter, son, parent, grand parent, grand-grand parent, and grand son, etc

        • I know it but we have to put in address. I'm afraid of the situation of all claimants being with the same address

    • awesome, thanks worked for me, all done

"The number of days you will be having is 732."

lol, I think if you activate 5 of them onto one key… it'd b pretty funny lol!!!!!!!!!

The number of days you will be having is 1830!

Thank you for being a very loyal customer lol!!!

Also, posted to rebate 2 of them.

  • I received the product, activated it and claimed successfully.

" Your online claim has been successfully processed. Please print this page using the Print button on your browser to keep a record of your claim receipt number.

  • got 5 and activated them all, but when trying the cash back 4 was success and 1 is saying…

"Sorry, the key you have entered has already been used to claim for this offer or another offer."

Edit: combined all the 5 with my existing product giving me the subscription till Aug 18, 2018

    • when you combine them they just add the days hey? Allowed installs remains the same?

      • Yep they have just added the days of 4 of the N-IS and 1 N360 into a N-IS key, rep has told me that other keys will not be valid but my norton account is showing them as active till the year end…

the key i am using in home currently is one of the key which is canceled, so i will be knowing the result once i am home…

Edit: Just checked my norton account and it shows the other keys as canceled.

    • got the other one activated for Cash back… my mistake of using same key again :)

    Back up to $89.95..

  • damn had issues price matching the other day a office works blacktown insisted they wanted to check if Dick-smith had stock and it was kind of late then :(

    • That price was available online only, they could have added shipping and price match.

  • Managed to price match at OW to this: http://www.eyo.com.au/402519_symantec-norton-internet-securi….

Not as good as DSE but still free :)

    • Now that this deal has expired - thats an option.

Anyone else getting calls from this number after doing cash back?

In addition I believe it is norton because I usually sign up websites using my english name but I have used my asian name as the cash back may require your ID upon claiming the money back at a bank. I believe it is Norton…. very annoyed.

    • +1

No, I never got a call after applying for a cash back to Norton.

  • I missed out by JUST ONE day =(
I have months of free time on my hands and would've snatched up free norton money if I could.
I've seen one of these before. Hopefully another happens sometime soon.

  • Wow, the first person I talked to must have completely bummed, out and forgot to disable one of my keys, now I have 2000~ days of subscription remaining. lol

    Thanks OP!

  • I activated another cd-key on one comp and it just made the days go to 366. Why doesn't it add them on to make it two years? :(

    • Call Norton support and they will add up the keys.

  • just to confirm: If we bought one copy (valid for 3 installations on 3 different pcs) we cannot join these onto the one pc and extend our subscription period?

    • No. It is for 3 different devices.

  • Its been weeks since I sent off my claim, Has anyone received the cashback yet?

    • It could day 6 weeks at least, they are never fast.

  • Has anyone got theres yet?

    Thanks

    • Nope
