  • Holy cow I wonder what my NEX-5N is worth?

    • I assume you're being rhetorical, but about $100. $250 if you still have original packaging in good condition and the kit lens.

Appreciate that! I paid $350 over a decade ago :)

  • How does this compare to 35mm?

Depends what you're going for - the a6700 has a 26 MP sensor, which is approximately 7.3 MP/cm^2, whereas the full frame a7rv with resolution 63MP is 7.4 MP/cm^2. This means that you're getting a similar pixel density to a camera more than 2.5x the price, which could be good for things like wildlife / bird photography, where you care a lot about pixels on your target. For a given lens, it will be similar between the a6700 and a7rv, assuming you're at your max focal length and cropping into your image. If you're not at your max focal length, this all goes out the window and you're comparing a 63MP image with a 26MP image.

Comparing with full frame cameras at a similar price, e.g.: an a7riii a7iii (24MP) for $180 more after cashback, the a6700 likely has better AF (as it's ~5 years newer), and is smaller, lighter, and higher resolution

The benefit of full frame is that the larger sensor means that, for a given field of view and aperture, the full frame image will have a more out of focus background. This is because it will be using a longer focal length lens to get the same field of view, and for the same aperture (e.g.: f/1.4), a longer focal length causes the background to be more out of focus (see this video for a long but great explanation of this phenomenon). Full frame sensors are generally regarded to have better noise handling in dark situations. That being said, they're generally more expensive, and so comparing across products of the same price (meaning you need to buy an out of date full frame camera) this may not hold true.

      • Short answer, if you're more into video get this or something similar with 10 bit recording. If you're more into photography, get the A7III or any other full frame for a similar price.

        • I'm not sure it's that simple. The main difference besides the sensor size and physical size / weight of the a6700 and a7iii would be the AF in my opinion. So it comes down to what type of photography you're interested in as well (i.e.: static vs moving subjects in particular), although both cameras will still be great for most situations.

The real buy would probably be something like a used a7riii, which gives you a huge bump in resolution to 42MP for a similar price.

@BarneyKB: Very true, only op knows what their use case demands. There are countless other factors, ergonomics, dual card slots, redundant shooting, etc. Right tool for the right job.

      • I meant how does it compare to a camera using 35mm film?

  • How many people have access to Zip? That's the major issue here.

    • It's free to sign up.

  • I’ve sent a price match on Sonys website hopefully they will do it

Can you share your results please

    • any luck?

  • Fark my luck getting it 2 days ago lol
Digidirect does not accept change-of-mind returns:
Consistent with Australian Consumer Law, we do not accept returns for "change of mind" or if you order incorrectly.

  • Is the gift card payment trick still works? Where do I buy gift cards please?

    • Not sure, but there's discussion about this on the original thread.

  • is this the cheapest for a6700? was thinking of buying a6400 this EOFY, but idk, 6700 at this price is very good

    • +1

I couldn't find it cheaper anywhere else new. I think Ted's cameras had a pretty great deal last time they had the 20% off used but that's obviously dependent on stock and is not new, but it does come with some sort of guarantee I think.

      • A6700 is a huge upgrade. Superior AF, ergonomics, larger battery, faster rolling shutter, 422 10 bit 4k 60, etc. If you really want something within the lower price category, go for the ZVE10 on sale, can be had for ~$800 for the body only, or 2nd hand A6000 for the best bang for buck.

    • Also a6400 is fairly cheap here (new) @ 1061.65, marginally cheaper than digidirect at the moment. Although digidirect does have decent sales fairly often. (seems like they're going for about $750 - $900 used usually)

  • If you don't know whether you should get this or a more expensive camera, then you should get this.

The A6700 does everything well. Bearing in mind the lens makes a huge difference, the money you will save getting this means you can get a better lens and/or memory card.

    I've been using the A6700 with a 35mm Sigma + 18-105mm Sony lens and it's been perfect.

  • good price

  • how can one avoid using zip altogether to make the purchase? saw that other article but seems like it involves gift cards which I don't have or want to use. Thanks in advance.

    • You could try getting in touch with Sony directly on their store website and asking them to price match
