  • $ sign please. Cheers

    • Just updated. Thanks.

  • Who did the refurb, you or DELL? (Great price BTW).

    • We did.

      • +5

Where do you get the temerity to call these "refurbished", with only 70% battery?

        • +7

Refurb means wiped over these days, nothing much more.

      • So, basically its used and not a refurb in the true meaning of the word?

        • +1

Yeah… some are still good without even dust so they are gambling, dont mind refunding if there is problem on some, than checking one by one (labour costs vs lost in delivery fees return)

  • https://www.corporatepc.com.au/store/HP-EliteBook-840-G4-Int… Would this be a better option for another $100 or so with the higher specs? Any reason this one linked doesn’t have win 11?

    • +3

Hi, you can use the same discount code for $50 off from listed price. Hope that helps. Thanks.

any chance you can make it $299 for instant tax write off?

        • Sorry cant do that.

7th Gen is not good..at least 8th gen nowadays

      • Thanks for pointing that out. Skymstr do you have any deals on 8th gen 16gb 256/512gb win 11?

        • +1

That is pretty much the main laptop posted here. Just upgraded the memory to 16gb and you are good to go.

          • +1

@Dienk: exactly this, it's got 2 slots so assume it just needs an 8gb stick to chuck in the other. For the money that's what I'd be doing

            • @Irishness: Thanks. So a ddr4 like this? https://amzn.asia/d/jhjxuCf Skymstr can you confirm these come with 8gb not 2x4gb? Could you package with an extra 8gb or a single 16gb for extra money?

              • +2

@Bargearse: Hi, can confirm that it has 2 RAM slots with one 8GB module installed in it.

              • +1

@Bargearse: yes but check with Skymstr what speed the modules are the one you link to is 3200MHz the 5491 laptop will dial it back to 2666mhz so best getting one the same speed & not mixing them

If you can afford the extra $6, and don't need a touchscreen:
          https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/176392105642

Bought 3 of those recently: 2 were excellent condition, 1 had very minor scratching on the casing (nothing you'd notice if you weren't looking for it)

          • @lano: Thanks, Looks good but OOS

            • @Bargearse: sorry; didn't notice the OOS part :)

          • @lano: Oos and $225 with code

          • @lano: Thanks for sharing. I am looking for under $250-300 budget with 16GB at least and this laptop ticked all the boxes. But check again this morning is OOO :-(

          • @lano: good solid ugly laptop

  • Much difference between the Dell and a 100N Mini PC?

    • +1

CPU performance, Intel i5 8th gen mobile CPU is faster. Thunderbolt 3 can be quite handy. There is only 1 thing where N100 is better. Due to it being technically 12th gen Intel CPU with E cores (power efficient cores) only, the HDMI supports 4K/60Hz. Unless Dell put in a bridging chip, the HDMI could well be 4K/30Hz max. However, Thunderbolt 3 would be wired to DisplayPort, so that can achieve 4K/60Hz.

A laptop has a screen, keyboard and trackpad whereas with a Mini PC, you need to get them separately.

      • Thanks, was more for the folks replacing a desktop

        • There are 8500T micro office PC's for cheaper if you look for them. I got one recently for $180.

So it depends on whether or not you want the extra horse power at the cost of more electricity. For people who only really need to watch YouTube, n100s are fine.

          • @Wonderfool: Yeah just browsing, MyGov and Windows games, so maybe just an N100

    • maybe better for you, but not for many others.
ram not upgradeable. smaller screen. bad battery as per others said

      • photo is of 2-in-1 yet doesn't say that in the description. If it's the standard 7390 then ram is upgradable

  • Just some +ve feedback.

Mine came today and frankly seems be literally as new, even the sticky Intel label on the palm rest and windows label underneath are unmarked and these not a mark on the body at all. The battery report seems to confirms this as well and according to HD Sentinel the ssd has only run for 18 days - the latter can be a bit off depending on the indivdual device but looking at the physical condition it wouldn't surprise me at all.

I'm tempted to think these were bought by a Govt department, imaged and then never issued?

One minor observation - I note you've put a sticky label across one of the screws securing the base so I can't upgrade the memory until after the 3 months warranty expires? Not a big issue but just confirming?

    • Hi, Thanks for your good words and feedback.

Our past experience with some buyers pushed us to attach that sticker. We have seen people retunring back laptop after changing parts and to protect ourselves, we looked for an easy solution and thats what came in our mind.

      • No problem, totally understand.

I have my own small IT Business supporting Pharmacies etc so RAM upgrades happen often due to the shear number of sites/apps they need open 24/7 and I generally have heaps of 8G sticks lying around.

I'll let it be for 3 Months just to be safe. It works fine as is but I need to find some way to use all those spare 8G sticks!
