Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX 7700 XT 12GB Graphics Card $629 + Delivery ($0 SYD C&C) + Surcharge @ Mwave

100

New low by the looks of it. Is this a justifiable buy or should I save up for, say, a 7800xt. There is also an OC 3 fan 7700xt going for the same price.

I don't know about this specific model but the 7700XT has been $599 a few times.

    • Yes you are right - my bad

    • Hey man you seem knowledgeable on GPU prices, do you think they'll be a sale on a 7900 xt for this EOFY sales season? I'm deciding between buying that, a 7900 gre with the current deal, or waiting for next gen, but want the best value. I just upgraded my monitor to 4k btw with a 3060ti. Thanks!

      • If 4K gaming is what you are after, 7900 or new gen would make more sense.

      • @angus9696 I would like to know too. I'm shopping around for a gpu with good value atm, so waiting for a good deal to bite.

      • I just pay attention to deals here but there hasn't really been many deals on the 7900XT in a while it seems. The GRE is really attractive since it can get pretty close to the XT with some tuning while costing a whole heap less. Waiting is a tough one, personally I like to wait when close to a new gen but the last few gens it seemed like a waste of time due prices (I ended up buying a 6700XT months after the 7000 series launched…).

If only the 7800XT was this price…

    • Since the 6900xt was $899 2 years ago for a Nitro with xtch chip, $629 for a slower non flagship card isn't much of an ask. Prices are awful!

this is terrible value if compared to $789 7900 GRE, or even the more common ~$850 sales. You get a lot more than ~30% performance for the extra ~30% price.

    • Yeah that's an insane price for the GRE but it's ETA is 26-06-2024 so have to wait a while.

personally I'd wait for next gen (~6 months??) if i had a 3060 ti, but if I really want to upgrade now I'd get that 7900 GRE deal if it comes back, and do some very basic overclocking to reach 7900 xt performance.

        • ok interesting, thanks man. I feel its a hard decision!

        • one more question bro. I found this guide to overclocking/undervolting a 7900 gre, does it look accurate/safe to you? Would this get me 7900 xt performance?

Also I have an i5 12400f cpu, is a 650w power supply ok for the 7900 gre?

          • @angus9696: Don't know tbh, don't have a 7900 GRE. Best to check a few more sources to be sure. 650w seems just barely enough, if you see issues like random shut downs, might have to dial back the power limits/voltages.

@lordra As others pointed out it's a preorder that's almost a month out… should check if Scorptec is good with cancellations and quick full refunds including card fees and whatevers. If they are, probably no harm putting in an order and pulling out if there's a better EOFY deal before it ships.

        • @xrailgun
Thanks for that. Really good information.

It's still available to order, should I go for it? New build, last component. Can't wait 6 months for next gen. Or wait for other gpu sales?

          • +1

@lordra: I ended up going for the 7900 GRE mentioned above. I have a white NR200 case that it will be going into so it will pair nicely

            • @wickybar: Good on you mate. I'll buy too, see what comes up in the coming 3 weeks. I want to claim for tax, but also Amazon has its Prime Day in July. But that's no guarantee of anything at this stage.

            • @wickybar: Hey Wicky, I found this on their website.

Cancellation of specially ordered items (Order Only) that is already ordered at the supplier/confirmed/instock will attract a minimum fee of 15% deducted from the order value/deposit paid.. Except if Scorptec cannot supply the item you ordered, in which case the entire deposit or payment will be refunded to you in full.

I wonder if this applies to the 7900GRE

@lordra: Sorry @xrailgun, I replied AFTER your post but didn't send it until much later.

I like your idea. I'll order it and wait and see what else drops in the next couple of weeks. If needed, I can cancel. It's only two weeks away to availably. Plus, I have price protection on my credit card for upto one year, so can claim back depreciation on it.

              @lordra: UPDATE!

My 7900 GRE shipped today way ahead of ETA.

                @wickybar: Wowsa!

              • @wickybar: All the 7900GREs are over $870

XFX Radeon RX 7900 GRE Gaming, 16GB = $870 @ Scorptec + Credit card charge
Sapphire Pulse GeForce RX 7900 GRE GAMING OC 16GB = $877 @ JW + Credit card charge
Gigabyte Radeon RX 7900 GRE Gaming OC 16G = $895 @ JW + Credit card charge
PowerColor Radeon RX 7900 GRE Fighter OC 16GB = $879 @PC Case Gear
                Sapphire PURE AMD Radeon RX 7900 GRE 16GB GDDR6 = $900 @CentreCom + Credit card charge
                Sapphire Pure Radeon RX 7900 GRE 16GB GDDR6 Video Card = $900 @Mwave + Credit card charge

This makes the card that @xrailgun posted very temping. Should I buy now or continue HODLing? and @wickybar

                • @lordra: At $789, the RX 7900 GRE seems to be a very solid deal. Plus free shipping. The only potential risk is that this card uses new magnetic fans that are snap-on (they are not preinstalled out of the box, need to do it yourself). Not sure how the magnetic fans perform but I am sure it is fine.

I intend to undervolt the card slightly, saving temperature and power draw for only a small performance cut.

                  • @wickybar: Installing fans is not all risky. Easy as. Especially the mag ones. Even compared to overseas prices, this is the same USA price which is extremely rare for us to have.

After chatting to another mate on here, I've pulled the trigger too. We are not card bros! I will follow the guide up top to put in a bit more juice and overclock a teeny bit, as I have a 850W PSU (that I also bought from Scorptech, A Tier on the PSU Cultist List).

                    • @lordra: Lucky I bought one, they just went up in price. Now $819.

                      • +1

@wickybar: I think they may have caught on. Saying that, $819 is still a good price. It's the cheapest GRE by around $50.
