  • Great deal. I paid $70 for mine last June. Still working exquisitely.

    • How quick is it with booting up? I’ve heard some take up to a minute

      • For me, generally about 30 seconds. Maybe it's different from car-to-car.

      • +6

Mine is usually seamless - typically booting up before my car's UI has even loaded. Otherwise it's just a few seconds.

The device receives power once I unlock my car, so it starts connecting before I get inside. That may be why it's so seamless for me so YMMV

        • I wish mine didn't turn on when I unlocked my car honestly. It's a pain in the ass, go to get something from your car, phone connects.

    • Does it charge your phone at the same time if you're using wired CarPlay/AA?

      • +7

The whole point of these devices is so you DON'T have to plug in for CP/AA.
If you plug in to USB, then sure, it'll charge at the same time.

        • Ah, I'm confusing this with another model of Carlinkit that enables an Android HU to use CarPlay/AA. Thanks anyway!

    • +1

Really. I got it last month and it often do not connect and keeps on restarting. :-(

      • Similar here… it always connects but too many random restarts is annoying.

        • Try a different cable? Usually the cables included in these are pretty crap, may not be able to deliver enough power. Also depends on what the output of the USB port on your vehicle is rated for.

          • @DangerNoodle: Yes, I am using an Ottocast U2Air Pro wireless adapter in my 2017 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport. With only one USB cable plugged in, it won't start. I will have to use a USB Y-cable to plug into two USB slots in my car for it to work properly.

      • I had this issue and I had to mess around with firmware before it came right. I think I upgraded the firmware and then rolled the firmware back to a version older than it came with and now it works flawlessly. It was fortunately very easy to update/rollback, just followed the instructions, took 10-15 minutes IIRC.
Before finding a firmware that worked it would connect only 70-80% of the time, it would drop out from connection to my phone mid drive, it would just freeze the CarPlay interface randomly. Might be a firmware to car model relationship with newer versions not being as backwards compatible as they should be.

        • Thanks for the info. For me i removed my phone form my car Bluetooth list and also removed my car from my phone Bluetooth. and now it connects to the carlinkit 1st and seemed to work for now for last 2 days. If it playes up again will try to mess around with the firmware.

  • Can you use this in a car with no CarPlay?

    • +9

      No

        • So you dont have to use cable to plug in your phone each time you get in the car.

        • -4

Cheap cars usually only come with wired Apple car play. This will give you wireless AA and Carplay.

It piggybacks off wired Carplay to get Android auto

          • +5

@krisspy: I wouldn't say "cheap cars". Most cars up until recently only had wired car play/android auto. In fact even now I doubt you can find a mercedes/bmw with wireless carplay/android auto.

In my experience Kia and Hyundai are the first to implement the new techs. And much as I love them on a whole I wouldn't call them "expensive". Althought the new Iconiq 5 N is over $120K so….

            • +1

@tonydav: BMW introduced wireless CarPlay in 2017 and wireless android auto in 2020.

            • @tonydav: FYI: can’t say about Merc but BMW has had wireless apple carplay since 2017.

        • Why do people buy wireless routers for their home if it doesn't give them an internet connection? Because it makes what is wired to be wireless, which is convenient.

    • Some dongles do this though. Not this one.

Seems like a lot of money just to go wireless

      • For most options it's like $100. And can you link to a dongle that gives Carplay on a car that doesn't have carplay? My MIL would love such a thing.

      • Depending if $40-$100 is worth the convenience of wireless connection for you.

      • benefits in summer when the phone is charging on a 40 degree day and so it forces the iphone to overheat.

With this it'd still go hot due to google maps usage but not as hot as charging + google maps.

  • Asking me to buy from App only. But when using app, can't find the same deal.. anyone bought this without phone app?

    • yes. Bought yesterday off laptop

  • +1

How does this work with both Android and Apple? My wife runs Samsung and i have iPhone but we often take her car with the kids? How does it auto chose who is connected? is it easy to switch?

    • -3

      Yes

    • +1

Yes, it just work well with both apple and android paired. It will pair last paired device but if it cant find it will pair whats available. We have same setup and works well.

    • It basically adds it own interface to the car (I think it hijacks the CarPlay display output) pre phone connecting and you can press the screen to select the phone to connect to or just let it connect to the last one it used if it’s in range.

    • I know with wired my GFs Apple take control before my Google6a has a chance.

I haven't tried it with the CarLinkit box yet

  • +23

I have bought this and tested it out. Works very well.

    USD19.90

    • Oh wow! Nice one! Will have to give it a try.

    • Got that one too, works a treat for both android auto and carplay.

Pretty instantaneous connection as well apart from the boot screen for like 2 secs

      • How is it with map applications, is there any perceptible lag or delay?

        • +1

With apple maps/google maps on my iphone, I could not feel any difference between wired and wireless.

I did break my s22 ultra and was using a Samsung A05 in the interim, but android auto lagged on that, but I'm putting that down to the phone, as it was a pain to use even for normal everyday use and lagged like hell.

You will probably see it functions just as good as wired carplay/android auto does in your car. Sound quality for music was just as good too (but again, could be dependent on your car) as one of my older car had shitty bluetooth audio but amazing wired/rca jacks

    • Thanks…going to give it a try.

    • Is this one didn't work the same way as the one posted here?

How to switch user if both onboard?

    • Thanks, bought.

      • Works well in my Hyundai Kona.

    • Interesting!! Do you by chance have two phones that both are android auto / how does it deal with switching? Both my partner and I share one car so not 100% sure how that will work…

    • I bought this and yet to receive delivery. Wondering it its any worse off

      https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006402797318.html

      • Got this recently, not any better. Need to unpair a few times to make it works. Also need to turn on wifi, Bluetooth and gps when using it

    • Thanks, I bought one. My Motorola MA1 just stopped working, even after resetting everything. It always had flaky connection - hope the one you linked is better. It's certainly cheaper.

      • Got mine today. Seems to work well.

        • Yeah work very well and cheap.

    • Decided to order it and give it a try, I think just need to connect to bluetooth from phones to switch.

    • Received mine this week and just tested it earlier today, compared to my Ottocast U2Air Pro, this XUDA brand seems to take much longer to connect each time I start the car, like a few minutes. My U2Air Pro only takes about 15 seconds to connect. Another thing is despite this small size I was hoping the USB slots in my car (2017 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport) has enough power each for this XUDA adapter, but unfortunately not, I still need the USB-Y-cable to plug into both USB slots to power it, similar to the U2Air Pro. I think I will just keep this XUDA adapter as a backup for now.

      • Received mine today, didn't need a few mins to connect and only need 1 x USB-A port to power it, Subaru XV 2019.

Because my Subaru can use bluetooth call, so the XUDA bluetooth call connection turned off automatically and on my phone it didn't say connected to bluetooth but it did and andriod auto fine, Samsung A73 phone.

        • I found that if you have other bluetooth device connected like earbuds, it may slow down the connection, otherwise it is quite fast.

          • @superforever: Tested it again, found that if I disconnected my earbuds first, it will connect within a few secs, otherwise will have issue, seem doesn't like several devices trying to connect to bluetooth calls at the same time.

      • "Another thing is despite this small size I was hoping the USB slots in my car (2017 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport) has enough power each for this XUDA adapter, but unfortunately not, I still need the USB-Y-cable to plug into both USB slots to power it, similar to the U2Air Pro" - What an interesting comment ; I just installed a different Mini AirPlay thingy into my Pajero Sport and it''ll work but disconnect after 5 minutes or so. ; could it be the USB Slot issue?

        • What an interesting comment ; I just installed a different Mini AirPlay thingy into my Pajero Sport and it''ll work but disconnect after 5 minutes or so. ; could it be the USB Slot issue?

Look like the same issue, USB slot didn't provide enough power to the device, may be they are older model USB slot, not enough "A"

        • Yes, apparently QE Pajero Sport older than 2018 cannot provide enough power to the USB slots, so these wireless adapters require a Y-cable to draw power from two USB slots to power them. Newer models of Pajero Sport post-2018 don't have this issue.

    • Anyone figure out how to connect to two phones and switch?

I found that after connected to one phone, even I disabled bluetooth, it keep turn bluetooth back on for me and reconnected.

      • Found that if I don't want it to connect to my phone I have to turn off my bluetooth first before I start my car and it will connect to the other phone.

No way to disconnect it if already connected, unless unplug it.

    • Thanks, got the XUDA a few weeks ago and it works just as quick as the cars with inbuilt wireless CarPlay. Minimal delay and very quick. Very suprised at the quality for $20 with new user coupon.

      • Been using my XUDA for past few weeks, it still takes a few minutes to connect every time I start my car.

        • See if you have other bluetooth devices connected on your phone for calls, like earbuds, etc.

    • Any idea how to get it to work, not liking my S24+, Kluger or Hilux..

Connect bluetooth to your phone not wireless.

Does anyone know an adaptor that works in latest Toyota cars (mine is 2023 Corolla cross but with wired android car play, I tried a couple of adaptors including carlinkit but none of them worked, they would work with other brands however i.e. Mitsubishi.) Really appreciate if anyone had any luck with an adaptor for latest Toyota's.

    • Does that include this 5.0 version of the Carlinkit? Thanks.

    • I've seen comments on the internet that the problem is the power supplied to the usb ports in the new toyotas, not enough to power the device. They say you can overcome the issue by using a spliter cable that plugs into two usb ports, which will provide the needed power

    • Might be a silly question but does your car have android auto/carplay already?

      • Yes

    • +1

I have an Ottocast in my GR Yaris. It's not absolutely perfect but it's fine 99% of the time.

      • Nice car!

    • I remember test driving the Corolla Cross and trying to get my phone connected was a nightmare. The salesman advised me to bring in my own cord. It put me off this car completely. I really hope you get this figured out

    • I've got AA Wireless Adapter, but unfortunately this is only for Android Auto and not carplay 😞

If you do not mind that (and the price), then AA Wireless is probably the best way to go.

    • Thanks everyone, like mentioned here, the issue could actually be due to underpowered USB port (because it barely charges my phone when connected). Yes, the system supports both car play and android auto but android auto implementation doesn't work wirelessly so each time I have to connect my phone via cable to get that working, which is a pain, hence looking for this adaptor. Thanks for the replies guys. I should either try splitter (for power) or AA adaptor as suggested above. Is this AA adaptor guaranteed to work in Corolla cross do you know? (Yes I know this infotainment connection issue sounds like a drama for this car, though everything else is fantastic, I love the ride, comfort, latest safety sense and fuel economy of it so no complaints here a happy Toyota fan boy😊)

      • It sounds like the same system as the 2023 Rav (wireless carplay but wired android auto). I got carlinkit working on mine, just an extra step.
Connect to the carlinkit (blutooth then wifi) then wait for the light to stay green (takes a minute or 2) then on the car screen go to devices, make sure that your phone is set to android auto then tap connect. Each time you want to connect it you'll have to go to devices and tap connect.

      • Beware this worked on my corolla Cross flawlessly until a Toyota firmware update for the infotainment unit self applied, now its dead.

        Ymmv.

    • +1

I managed to get carlinkit 4.0 to work on my 23 Rav4. Couldn't get carlinkit 5.0 or any of the ottocast models to work that I tried.

Maybe give that a go as they have free returns on amszon

      • Thanks for the top mate, will give that a go then.

Worked with coupon code 24SC02, saved $3, brought it down to $39.09 incl tax plus free shipping.

Thanks mate, been looking at one of these for a long time, but the $90 amazon prices kept me away

  • Thanks OP, order will ship in 6 days!

    • Shipped already

I've had it for 6+ months. Works great but audio delay is pretty annoying, making phone calls a little difficult. 1-1.5s

    • +1

Now this makes me worried. And I read this after placing the order 😑

      • +1

It's bearable. I still use it, just annoying.

You'll also especially notice it when you go to play/pause/skip music.

    • +1

Have you tried changing the delay setting on the unit?

    • I don't own this unit, but from searching around it looks like there's an audio delay setting that's set to 2000ms out of the box, but can be as low as 300ms. No clue why this is set so high by default, possibly stability reasons. Wouldn't hurt to try though.

    • I have a weird audio delay for anything playing on my phone but coming through the car audio via CarPlay (YouTube app on my phone while connected to car for example) but it doesn’t affect anything playing in CarPlay; calls, siri etc. no audio delay or delayed response to steering wheel button inputs.

  • Someone on Facebook Marketplace wants to sell this to me for $80

    • PayID them.
      Who's the real crook?

  • do any of these change the interface in your car? or just plug in and use it like normal? I was trying to decide on amazon a while back and comments mentioned features that were not available, could anyone tell me if there's any restrictions to android carplay if you use this?

  • Can you watch youtube or Netflix using this?

    • nope.

      • You actually can, have to sideload certain apps :)

        • +1

Could you please tell which ones?

          • @kalakaar: You need AAAD and then CarStream. Plenty of YouTube videos on how to do it.

However it doesn't work for Android 14 atm.

    • Need the more expensive models to with android to play youtube netflix.. example: Carlinkit tbox max or latest carlinkit UHD.
