(Thanks bashar20 for the link)

I have heard that there has been issues about 2 weeks ago with the shipments of devices with batteries outside China, but this seems to be resolved now for normal post (which usually takes a bit less than 2 weeks to arrive).

I can vouch for MP4Nation. I bought many things from them and the customer service is great.

The discount code fb2012fiver brings the price down to $183.35 delivered.

If you read the post above, like I said, JellyBean IS available for it. It just ships with ICS on it. It's just a matter of updating it once you receive it.

      • Looks like these little known Chinese tablets are getting better and better. They are certainly giving the established brands a run for their money. Are there any good quad-core tablets worth considering?

        • +1

Not yet. Keep an eye out for the ainol novo captain. I'm passing up this deal for the captain. Even though this deal is pretty darn tempting

  • +1

any comment on how the MVA vs IPS screen situation is looking? the email from mp4nation from the last deal posted didn't look very promising

    • Bought mine around 1 month ago and it definitely is IPS.

      • +1

but some people received MVA screens and there's no assurances on whether future batches will be IPS or MVA.

        • I think there was only one person who received an MVP screen. I'm using the one I bought right now and it's definitely IPS. But you're right; there's no guarantee it will or won't be IPS. According to the thread MP4Nation offered to refund the person who got an MVP scren.

  • I wouldn't buy it, since I like 7" but i think it's a great price for this tablet!

  • Purchased from them over 2 weeks ago. Had some problems with shipping it over here as Fedex weren't allow to ship devices with lithium batteries at the time so they used SG post instead. However it's still taking pretty long.

Purchased on the 9th and still waiting for it. I can see on the tracking that it's landed in Australia since Thursday night… so I guess either Monday or Tuesday when it'll be in my hands.

  • I bought one of these in the last deal. Mine has an IPS screen and after upgrading to Jelly Bean its been a great tablet. Didn't have any problems RE: postage.

How is this compared to a Nexus 7 Tablet?
Looking to get one for my mum but I have no idea about tablets.
Is it decent for the price? Or am I just better to an extra 70 or so for a Nexus 7?
    Thanks

    • The main difference is that this one is a 10" tablet, nexus 7 is 7".

Although this is quite light, if she will be carrying it around in a handbag, nexus 7 might be easier to carry around.

If she is planning to put lots of music and movies on it, this one has an sd card slot and nexus doesn't, and also the bigger screen for movies, so this one would be preferable in that sense.

      • And doesn't the Nexus 7 have a TN panel?
        edit
my bad, it's IPS. Where did I get the idea it was TN?

      • Cool. Thanks for the help mate.
Purchased it. So hopefully it's good! :P

        • what shipping did u chose?

        • I just chose airmail. The one that's free, you know being a ozbargainer and all. ;)
Since it comes with tracking anyway. Although hopefully it doesn't take more than the minimum 10days listed to get here. :P

Also note that this doesn't have the newest operating system pre-installed (i.e. No Jelly Bean) so you will need to flash it's firmware to get the most out of it. Instructions are here:
      http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1921801&p…

Nexus on the other hand works right out of the box, no flashing of firmware required. You will get updates directly from Google (over the air) as well as the latest versions of Google Android.

A Google Nexus 7 or 10 could be a better option if you're not comfortable with getting your hands dirty with flashing the firmware, which can be rather off-putting for non tech savvy users.

      • +1

It's not like JB is required to use the tablet. There's no reason to avoid this tablet just because it ships with ICS, regardless of whether you're prepared to flash it yourself or not.

  • I can't get the price down below $189.52 for some reason.

Selected Free Shipping option, put Aus as the location and Victoria and then 3032 for my postcode.

Applied the code but still it shows $189.52.

How did others get it down to $183.35???? (Do I have to use the referral link from the OP to achieve that price?)

    • I'd hazard a guess it's AUD vs USD.

      • +1

Lol…..schoolboy error there on behalf of jollster101.

    • You don't have to follow my referral link. What you see is USD. You can change the currency on top of the page.

  • I'm interested in this tablet, i have a few questions (not explained yet in the thread)
    how does it run games?
    8hours battery is it real?
    any APP compatibility issues?
how much internal memory for APP(suppose is not all the 16gb)?

does it comes with aus adapter or i have to select somewhere?

    thanks for the infos

    • I am playing batman the dark knight (heavily 3d game) on it and it runs super super smooth.

The battery life is real. Mostly it is longer than 8 hours.

I have only 2 of my 100 existing apps/games didn't work on it. 1 of which doesn't even work on my Samsung galaxy s3. People say that you can get around it by changing device name, but didn't bother.

Mine came with European charger. Just need to buy a plug converter for a buck off eBay (I''ll post a link soon).

I think you can change the amount it utilises for apps. I didn't have to yet. It also has an sd card slot for other media.

      • Initially it comes with 1GB for apps, I think the later ROM versions will increase it.

I'm using a Katsky ROM (based on 1.6 firmware) that increases it to 2GB. I still haven't managed to fill 1GB yet, so 1GB is already plenty.

        • I have the Katsky ROM (1.7) and it increases the ROM to 2GB, but reduces the internal storage to 12GB (unless I'm missing something about why I've only got 12GB). ROM seems more important so I don't mind too much.

    • thanks for the answers,
now i'm just in doubt about the shipping after reading some comment here and on the web.

  • Anyone apart from the OP dealt with Mp4nation before? Just read some negative reviews about the site and just want to make sure I'm not going to get swindled or receive poor customer service if anything goes wrong…

    • Fair enough.

      • Yeah no offence erd I just wanted to see if anyone else has bought from the site before and has had the same good service…though out of interest have you had little to no issues in all your dealings with them?

        • None taken. :)

Bought 9 pairs of earphones and this tablet from them. Never had an issue about delivery. Had a problem with one of the earphones. They replaced it within a week and they paid for return shipping of the faulty pair. So overall, yes I am happy with their service.

        • Sounds good to me then! Gonna give it a go sounds like a great deal thanks for the heads up and info :)

      Response to: Dman89

I've dealt with MP4nation in the previous deal Erd uploaded about the Ainol Crystal.

It wasn't a very pleasant experience as it seems they had quite limited stock and kept advertising "in stock" whilst they did not have stock - a common Aliexpress trick to buy time.

Their customer service is "ok" and they tend to dodge direct questions like normal Chinese retailers. They handle refunds very promptly (due to PayPal protection) + their response time is between 2-4 working days in China.

If you do get a defective product and try to claim warranty - its quite difficult as you have to pay postage back to the China HQ which is very costly - approximately $50ish through courier as PostOffice doesn't accept Lithium batteries. You should have a read through the returns section as there are massive bureaucratic layers to get through :)

Also, if your considering buying this tablet with free postage, I would highly advise against that.

Looking at Ainolstore.com + Zzkko, they've been having serious trouble with free shipping via China AirMail due to the Chinese 18th Conference meeting which restricts any postage of liquids including Lithium batteries (http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=488245704554199&set=a…) + have a look at their facebook page (they can't send the tablets via FedEx).

Since they do not openly disclose these issues, I would be worried.

I would take responses from Erd with skepticism as there is self-interest threat through the rewards program at MP4nation. (Making approximately $4.60 through each referral order (0.025*185))

      • I guess I shouldn't even bother answering other people's questions according to you mate.

  • interesting that you don't get to choose black or white - so you don't know which colour you'll get.

The pix suggest black, but Erd's own review on the site suggests white.

It seems a good deal - the warranty process and the lack of an AU adaptor are my only concerns.

    • When I ordered a few weeks ago I asked the JD (store rep via their online chat thing) and was told they only have white models and yet received a black one. So yeah, no way to know for sure :/

    • Yeah, I received a black one as well(black front, white back).

    • When I ordered mine the title said 'white'. Now it doesn't say that. So I will take a guess and say that it probably is black at the front. Hard to be sure though.

  • Not that the color matters anyway — when you buy a case for it, the casing pretty much obscures every part of the tablet except for the screen and camera hole.

  • Not happy Jan.

Those of you who bought one of these, check the model number of the unit you received.

Mine arrived today. The power pack was seperate from the rest and was broken in the flimsy envelope it was sent in. But much more seriously, I received a U19GT rather than a U30GT.

The U19GT has a lower resolution 9.7" screen rather than the 10.1" screen of the U30GT.

Now I am seriously pissed off.

    • Oh that's crap. U30gt is a much better tablet. Contact their support and they should sort it out. Once I had an earphone arrived faulty and they replaced it within a week. Good luck.

Dear all, I received mine 2 weeks ago. I had to go away for 2 weeks. On return, I find the cube neither charges nor switches on. Not even charging from usb port. Looks dead. Good lesson not to buy Chinese tablets. Sent mail to mp4nation. Let me c what happens

    • From what I can tell none of these Cubes charge from a standard USB port. You need a 2000mah output on the port which is more than a normal usb port does. I think some computers do come with high powered USB ports for such devices.

    • AFAIK they don't charge from the USB port at all. As you know there is a special 2.5 mm charging socket that connects to a charger. Did you try that? Have you been running the residual charge down? If you have used the external charger maybe it is is broken, or worse, the tablet.

I got my U23GT (which was a substitute for the out of stock Ainol Crystal) a couple of days ago, after a month long delay involving China Post, Fedex and all sorts of reasons, real or not I don't know. It also didn't power up. Ok fine, maybe the battery shipped discharged for safety reasons. Plug in the charger, nothing happens. Try for some time, maybe it's the European style pins not making contact in the loose adapter. Watched the power meter and the charger seems to draw a bit of power when contact is made, then drop back to zero.

Take a look at the tablet and the power supply. Shock horror, the tablet takes 5V 2A and they've sent me a charger supplying 12V 2A. It was in a separate plastic bag which they appear to have added to the package. There was no smoke or sign of distress when I connected so hopefully the internal regulator has shut down and prevented damage to the tablet. But I can't know until I have it running. I don't have a charger with a 2.5 mm plug. A proper charger is $13.50 delivered in Australia. But I don't want to buy that until I know it works. So I compromised and bought a USB to 2.5 mm cable from DX for $1.46. I have a high amperage 5V source I can use to supply. But I still have to wait a couple of weeks for this to turn up.

I lodged a support ticket at MP4nation with pictures of the voltage specs on the tablet and the power supply, asking for a proper power supply, but so far a deafening silence.

Meanwhile I have this uncertainty for a couple of weeks whether the tablet works or not. The worst case is if the tablet is DOA. It's simply not worth it to ship it back for a refund (and probably the unscrupulous merchants know this), and also there are problems with sending things containing Li batteries through Auspost. (It's interesting that the package was transshipped from Singapore and declared Audio Accessory, maybe to evade scrutiny for Li batteries.) I'll just have to take the loss and maybe try to use it as an ARM experimental board.

I don't think I will be buying tablets from overseas in the near future. You're really in no practical position to return for a refund in case of problems. If MP4nation is supposed to be one of the better vendors, I wonder what the rest are like.

      • Ok, a follow-up. MP4nation has responded to my ticket and will be sending me the correct charger. Now I just hope it has not suffered any damage from the wrong charger.

So to anybody getting a Cube, TL;DR: 1. They do not charge from the USB socket and 2. Make sure the charger matches the tablet specs.

        BTW when I wrote

and probably the unscrupulous merchants know this

I did not imply MP4nation was one, though the phrasing might have be read that way. But even with honest merchants, it's still a hassle to deal with DOA devices like tablets that cannot be easily sent back. You just have to accept some losses now and then for the cheaper prices.

        • Well the saga continues. The 5V charger is out of stock and MP4nation will send me tracking information when they send it out. I'm betting my USB to 2.5 mm plug cable from DX will arrive first and I can charge it with a USB charger. Fingers crossed that it powers up.

        • The replacement charger is on the way, in SG at the moment it seems, and I'm also waiting for a USB to 2.5mm charger cable from DX, but last night I noticed my BT earset charger cable is the right type so I charged my U23GT overnight and to my relief it powered up this morning. Nice crisp display and zippy response. So I did get a decent deal from MP4nation after all that waiting and provided it doesn't go kaput within a year.

It was a bit confusing to navigate until I found the language setting and changed it to English. One drawback for many people is that these China tablets come with next to no documentation. In my case just a small leaflet in Chinese in the box and a homepage setting on the browser.

        • Hows the wifi on yours?
          Because mine is completely crap.
Even right next to the router it fluctuates.

        • Works fine, no problems. Again, remember mine's the U23GT, not the one in the title.

  • So everyone that's bought from there has been given the wrong charger?
Or is it luck of the draw?
And god it takes forever to get here.
Been like 10 days since I ordered and it's still in Singapore.

    • If it's in Singapore then it's probably a few days from arrival. According to the tracking mine left Singapore 22nd and was delivered 27th. Let us know how you go.

      • Finally arrived! Even though the bloody tracking said it's still in Singapore!
Arrived on my doorstep with the envelope it was in with dirt and crap and slightly ripped. Thankfully the unit's okay, I think.
Seems good so far, but how do you tell if the screen is IPS or MVA?
And it would've been good if they supplied a damn adapter with it. :P

        • You might not be so happy if they had shipped the wrong adapter like they did for me and it had let the magic smoke out of the chips. That's something I have yet to determine with mine when I get a replacement from them. BTW it doesn't charge from USB so you will eventually run it down without an adapter.

        • Yeah gotta get an adapter :(
Reckon it's worth flashing it, even though I've had no experience doing so, or just stick with what's there?
Coz some of the crap is still in Chinese.

Didn't mean to make you feel shit about the adapter they gave you through my trivial whinging :P

        • I intend to flash my U23GT since I wanted to play with a tablet. Not sure when I'll do it. I found an Australian seller for the adapter at $13.50 shipped, search eBay. Assuming the charging socket takes a 2.5 mm plug.

        • It says on the side of the box 'IPS' or 'MVA'.

I didn't flash mine for a while and it was fine for the most part, however I did find the sound in YouTube was quite distorted. I thought it was just the crappy speakers, but it improved a lot after flashing, so it might be worth it for that alone.

  • How do I go about updating the firmware from 1.03 to 1.07.
Can't seem to find the right link for it.
