Have friends who live near olympic park, and sign up to a membership https://iamconnected.com.au/ :)

        • +1

Seriously considering this as I live locally - do you mind asking your friend what other benefits they got and if they thought it was worth it?

          • +4

@oldspice: I live pretty close too, theres discounts at rhodes KFC (20%) discounts at local cafes etc. There is also free game tickets handed out, and i personally also got free easter show tickets.

p.s, i signed up with friends address and it doesn’t seem to matter

            • @Quarter Pounder: Amazing thank you! Will probably sign up - any referral code/bonus?

              • @oldspice: Doesn’t seem like theres a referral code, i think theres a free trial until 30 june

              • @oldspice: Looks like the area on where you can sign up is no longer limited to the 2127 postcode, it reaches out to burwood from what i can see

          • +2

@oldspice: It is worth it. I got free tickets for Pandemonium rock concert (this alone was worth $175 or something), State of Origin, top tennis championship, footy and NRL, basketball games. All for $80 annual fee. And discounts in local cafes and venues.

            • @Azro: Yeah, i had the previous lifestyle membership for years too. Definitely worth it

            • @Azro: Do they send tickets online or via post?
Is there a membership card come via post?
              Thanks in advance.

              • +1

@jag007: Tickets are online, i don't think a phycical card is involved much anymore, theres a website/app

                • @Quarter Pounder: Thanks mate appreciate my friend live around there. He is moving out next month thought check before buy it

                  • +1

@jag007: You don’t need to live nearby - they let people who work in SOP also join, so if you’re asked, just pick a company located there.

Note that memberships run from 1 July to 30 June. If you join partway through, you still pay the full fee but only get the remaining months.

              • +1

@jag007: Tickets are through Ticketeck or Ticketmaster with special code provided via email newsletter.

                • @Azro: Thanks mate appreciate

Is there such a thing for Melbourne?

  • Any code for Brisbane? (Also looking for tickets if anyone selling Game III :P)

    • Isn't Brisbane sold out?

      • probs is or close enough considering their capacity

        • +1

Compared to the population of the city it exists in, Suncorp has a higher capacity than Accor.

          But yes, it's sold out.

          • +7

@Schmiddler: That's because Qlders get Origin.

            • +1

              @MattyD:

              That's because Qlders get Origin.

More likely it's that Suncorp is in a much better location, much better stadium, and 2/3rds the capacity so much easier to sell out.
Homebush is a shit football stadium in a shit location. Even if was selected to play for NSW I couldn't be bothered getting out there.

              • @1st-Amendment: True about Homebush location. Never appreciated that trip when I lived in Sydney. Still, Sydney olympics were a cracking party so I'll give them that.

              • @1st-Amendment: No, it sells out regardless because rugby league is religion up here, and SOO the annual holy war.

    • +1

The default state for Suncorp origin tickets is "Sold out"

  • +21

    NSW just doesn’t get Origin.

  • +1

    Nice work finding the code!

    • +2

Now all we need is a code that keeps the Queenslanders onside!

      • +3

Wait until the Blues lose before you make excuses. Making them prior to the game is just demoralising for Dylan Edwards James Tedesco and the boys …

  • -1

We got our game 2 tickets back in like December for 20 odd a pop. Went in and used the code worried a few bucks were wasted, cheapest you could get now was 45 for concession and only single seats. Success!

  • +1

wow, pretty embarrassing for NSW to offer 2 for 1 tickets when Suncorp gets sold out within a few hours

    • Not really… Sydney stadium is about 60% bigger than Suncorp. And this is down to two days before the game, so it's just getting rid of the last few seats. Not something they had to emergency sell months back as there weren't enough sales.

      • +6

Sydney also has a significantly larger population. No excuses.

        • Sydney also has a significantly larger population

Population of Sydney is 5M, SE Queensland is 4M with a much better stadium, in a much better location, that is smaller capacity, and better weather

          No excuses.

I just made a great one.

          • @1st-Amendment: lol, the weather is a good excuse? get real. people know how to put a jacket and beanie on.

It also isn't that difficult to get to for a large portion of the Sydney population

There might be excuses - just bad ones

            • @beltdrive:

the weather is a good excuse?

Yes, because good weather gets better turnouts than bad weather. And Brisbane has better winter weather than Sydney, so it's a factor.

people know how to put a jacket and beanie on.

But why bother if you can get a better experience at your local pub. You get a better atmosphere, better food and drinks, better commute and get to see all the detail in 4k. Have you been to a game at Homebush? It's a terrible stadium to watch a game of footy. Even worse when it's cold.

It also isn't that difficult to get to for a large portion of the Sydney population

It is because unlike Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide stadiums etc it's nowhere near anything else interesting. So you are making a dedicated long trip in terrible traffic to go to a shit stadium, deal with crowds and shit expensive beer and food, in the cold, not see any action because the field is too far away from the seats, then come straight home again afterwards because there's nothing else to do there. I went to a game and got the seats up the back corner behind the posts, I literally couldn't make out what was going on on the other side of the field it was that far away. Why would anyone pay money for that?

There might be excuses - just bad ones

Good enough for the ~5M people who choose not to bother going each year. If they played the game at Allianz it would sell out easily because it's a smaller, it's a dedicated rectangular football stadium not an oval track and field stadium, and it's close to the city where there's other bars and restaurants and places people want to go before and after the game, just like Suncorp. These things matter to people.

              • +1

@1st-Amendment: I'm really starting to think the olympic stadium might be the biggest white elephant ever, can see why there's so much pain going on with the stadiums in Brisbane around hosting the opening/closing ceremony.

It seems like Sydney is still paying for 1 event that took place 24 years ago :(

          • +1

            @1st-Amendment:

Population of Sydney is 5M, SE Queensland is 4M with a much better stadium, in a much better location, that is smaller capacity, and better weather

You forgot that Queensland also has the much better team, crowd and atmosphere.

            • +1

              @pwnd:

              crowd and atmosphere.

This entirely due to the stadium. Suncorp is dedicated football stadium close to the city. It encourages better crowds and atmosphere by its superior planning and design.
Homebush is what happens when politics gets in the way of good design and planning. They built an expensive oversized try-to-please-everyone-but end-up-pleasing-no-one design by committee stadium in the middle of nowhere. Homebush is the poster child on how not to do major infrastructure planning.

      • +5

Sydney has twice the population of Brisbane. Not being able to sell out a stadium with way less than twice the capacity is pathetic.

        • +11

it's pathetic that people don't care about football? lol

          • -6

@realaccount627465746: *They don’t care about Thugby League.

AFL regularly sells out tonnes of home and away games and just forget about getting tickets to matches like Anzac Day or the GF. Basically impossible.

        • +2

Sydney’s population is calculated from a much larger geographical area than Brisbane. It goes almost all the way up to Newcastle and includes the blue mountains.
If Brisbane used the same measure it would be much higher..
Plus theres more to do in Sydney than footy.

          • +1

@Pinchy: There's more to do in Brisbane than footy too.

          • +2

@Pinchy: Brisbane is bar far the biggest city in Australia by geographic area. What are you talking about ?

    • +9

Where was it advertised though? Op said they figured out the code themselves, what a legend.

  • -1

Desperate to get blue supporters to actually show up and watch their pathetic attempt of a team.

  • +2

This would never happen at Lang Park.

    • +2

Probably because it's more expensive to live in Sydney so less disposable income.

Also it's colder this time of the year.

      • +2

also a much smaller stadium doesn't have the terrible seats that nobody wants to buy…. because it's smaller?

  • -8

Rugby league the game of intelligence.

    • +6

In your only other two OB comments, one is terribly misspelt political propaganda, and the other received a net 56 downvotes.

I think a little NRL might take your mind off things - might I suggest the bulldogs would be a good fit?

  • -3

Wow so much for origin being the marquee event for rugby league.

    • +2

Look at the ratings, it is.

  • -1

How times have changed. Matilda’s games sell out in minutes and they can’t give away tickets for the state of origin.

    • +5

Because going to a Matilda’s game is seen as trendy for social media posts, amongst other things.

    • Let’s compare apples with apples. How many tickets are sold for the average W-League game?

      • In what world is that apples with apples?

  • Can't seem to get a ticket - "There aren’t enough tickets to meet your request right now. Please try Best Available with a reduced quantity of tickets. If you receive this message even when selecting only one ticket, all remaining tickets are being transacted by other customers."

I only picked 1 ticket, so guessing all tickets have been snapped up for the 2 for 1?

Edit: Working again after refreshing and trying again from scratch

Edit2: Looks like cheap ones are gone, only showing me $330 ones

  • +3

I heard last night that there were 80,000 tickets sold already, so this will be the last 2-3,000 tickets for this deal.

  • -4

Isn't the State of Origin the marquee event for rugby league in Australia?

The AFL would never have to give away tickets for the grand final lol

    • +1

They are not giving tickets away, this is a hack as the OP mentioned he was trying old codes.

  • +2

How on earth did you figure out this OP?

Are you some kind of promo code Jedi?

I must admit I've occasionally tried a few generic codes at different sites, 'WELCOME10' 'SAVE5' etc. on the off chance it might work. Picking this one without any kind of clue seems impossible!

    • Haha I trawled through last year’s ozbargain posts, saw one for Adelaide and followed the same syntax to see if it works. It was triggered by seeing a social media post about apparently tickets being given 2 for 1, but I couldn’t find any marketing about it.

      • Ok that makes more sense - still, nice work connecting the dots!

  • Anyone know a code that works for someone with no friend?

  • +2

nice now you can all watch Queensland Win live.
