  • How is their flavour of Android ? Any feedback ?

    • +3

F5 daily driver here. Not too bad. Pretty clean, can uninstall most bloat except Mi Gallery Mi Browser. Just don't use them, it's fine.

Gestures work well, fast, OS updates are about 1-2 month behind, not too bad.

I would upgrade to F6 but they removed the 3.5mm jack, making it a deal breaker for me.

      • Does your data and calls work? I was in a bind and had to buy a Motorola instead coming from my F3, because when Vodafone shut down their 3G network it nerfed the F3 because it didn't have the proper 4G provisioning to use it

        • Kind of confused here too, a I'm getting messages from Coles that your device (POCO X3 Pro) would stop functioning as Optus is shutting down 3G network, although I can see that in Mobile networks it's conencted to 4G. how to conform that?

        • I am on Boost (Telstra) absolutely no issues on 5G and 4G, even when I set the preferred network option in settings. It depends on the modem on the SOC chipset. In general Qualcomm Snapdragon SOC has better compatibility.

I am not concerned personally, IMO unless you are on a 2 year+ phone with non Qualcomm you have nothing to worry about.

          • @hippo2s: Incorrect. F3 had Snapdragon 870 and it's been nerfed. If you watch the video you'll realise what's going on. Telstra isn't shutting down 3G until later in the year so folks won't know until then.

Newer phones probably better chance of not having problems, I'd say no problems, but not guaranteed.

        • Telstra / Boost/ Aldi / Belong etc have pushed back the 3G switch off till end Aug. Optus end Sept. Qualcomm phones are more likely to still work after 3G goes since generic VoLTE profile is required. However Telstra and their MVNOs require special profile to support VoLTE so I'd only be using an AU handset to be safe .

          • @dave12113: Would a custom ROM work, or is it a hardware (modem) issue? Rocking a Mi 9T pro (also have a Redmi note 8) that work fine, until Aldi's 3G nuked it.

            • @HelpWanted: Custom ROM don't work.

            • @HelpWanted: It's a modem configuration question. I'm not sure if custom ROM affects this aspect. My partner has note 10 pro from ali express, check in settings, about phone, detailed info and specs, status, SIM status, Mobile voice network type.
Whilst in voice call this should say 4G. If it says 3G or WCDMA then you're in trouble.
The note 10 pro says 4G for Optus (good), but 3G for Aldi (Telstra).

          • @dave12113: Err… I currently have VoLTE while on Boost on a F5. So…you are saying it could still be killed?

            • @hippo2s: If you're sure VoLTE is working now then yr fine. The issue is determining if VoLTE is actually working on your handset. Basically VoLTE is working if you can see that it is still on 4G whilst in the middle of a voice call.

            • +1

@hippo2s: VoLTE is working for me on Vodafone using Redmi Note 12 Turbo (Chinese version F5) so it should work on an F5 although I am using a custom ROM

        • Asterisk#asterisk#4636#asterisk#asterisk

And Goto the 3 dots on top right select IMS Information. And check the VoLTe availability (available or unavailable).

I have definitely seen 'call on VoLTE' during a phone call on F5. I recall on F2 (my previous phone) it just needs to be enabled via a service code so setting appears in settings menu, and toggle to on.

          • +1

@hippo2s: Yeah, nah! The code to turn in VoLTE :-).

Tried that on the 9T can't seem to get VoLTE to activate. I guess if it's a bit of a lottery if you flash them. I got nothing to lose so will give it a go at some point

          • @hippo2s: Toggle hasn't worked for most folks, the setting appears but the actual provisioning means it ain't there :(. If VoLte is there on the F5 then guessing it's something the world has caught up with in the last couple of years at least hopefully..

            • @adrianhughes1998: so I just turned on VoLTE on my POCO X3 Pro (on coles optus network)
              *#*#86583#*#* to enable VoLTE
*#*#869434#*#* to enable call over wifi.

I called to other phone & can confirm it remains on VoLTE & 4G+.
I then send 3 to 3498 to confirm if my device will still work afte Optus switch off 3G, & I got the message htat my device will be impacted.
              now I'm confused
If I can make calls over VoLTE now, how can it'll impact when 3G is switched off?

              • @taker312: The only way you'll know for sure is you buy a cheap Vodafone $2 SIM or equivalent because they already shut down their 3g network.

If you can't make phone calls at all, no text messages etc then your phone is screwwd.

                • @adrianhughes1998: hmm, good idea, will try

                  • @taker312: @taker312 The 3498 SMS service is braindead, it pays no attention to the handset's current configuration and instead just looks up the phone's IMEI in a database of known good devices.

They're being super-lazy about how they assess devices and there's no shortage of FUD about (see: may not work for triple-0) but no means to test it properly. They just want you to pony up from a local reseller.

I've got a Mi 9T Pro with earlier firmware that means VoLTE is working properly (later MIUI updates broke it apparently). I've got VoLTE working fine, but I'm still sitting through that stupid nag recording, every time I make a call.

  • Can you unlock the boot loader and install custom ROMs?

    • F6 was only released last week. I haven't not dipped into doing that for ages but I can't imagine it not possible once the peeps on xda dev community figures it out.

  • +5

Tempting but one requirement for my next phone is eSIM

    • I wish it had this capability as well.

  • I noticed the HyperOS has a big issue. It does not block notification from Apps. I disabled notifications from a number of Apps, after a few days, they popup again. Its very annoying.

    • Just got it on my Poco X4 gt and it hasn't been great, NFC not working and notifications don't always show in lock screen despite it being supposed to

    • +1

I prefer Poco OS better. But have not noticed these kind of issues on F5.

      What device?

You can report it to xiaomi via Feedback (very bottom of settings).

      • I did not know that I can report via feedback in Settings menu.

I just reported it, see how it goes.

  • The price listed for 12/512 is actually USD 385.3 to me.

    • did you collect the code from the listing?

      • No that's the original price before applying coupons.

        • +1

you need to apply the coupons and then it will be 339

        • For everyone to know, I found 333F6XR + SCA50 give the highest discount.

          • +1

@King2013: 333f6xt code only works on 12GB. But brings it down to price of 8GB. So recommend that. Although the chip does expanded RAM anyway so not that much difference day to day.

            • @hippo2s: Not working for me - error :"This coupon code is for single use only and can't be used here"

              • @lisa1234: Now the error says "For security reasons your request can't currently be processed" when I enter the 333F6XR code

                • @lisa1234: I don't work for AliExpress, sorry. I would suggest you clear the cart and log out and try again.

  • Neither 22F6XR or 333F6XR are working for me. I tried signing in with a new account but still no luck - error message: For security reasons your request can't currently be processed

    • collect them from the listing

      • Thank it worked!

Final price $366 USD after taxes

  • Wasn't aware of the additional 22F6XR code, got me over the line to upgrade from the F3. Thx op!

  • The AliExpress Choice Day coupons are expired and for re-stocking, used both these codes for the 12/512GB instead, got me down to $580. Yes, not as good as $510 AUD but is ok I suppose..

    SCA12
    SCA20

  • The best i can get for F6 12GB/512GB is US$343.92. Did checkout increase slightly?

    • Yeah seems like they went up $5

      • I'm seeing $370.97 and $412.30 as pre discount/tax prices which I think is around $20ish more than before
Are you seeing that as well or is there something wrong with my AliExpress?

        • Collect the code off the store page

          • @CHUNITHM Luminous: I worked out the problem, it's because I was ordering to NZ. The price the other day was the same but it seems they jacked it up if sending to NZ.
Never seen that before, the prices are usually the same

      • Hmm yeah well i guess it's still better than early bird price

  • for anyone sitting on the fence with POCO f3 and such. I can confirm that my phone can make VoLTE calls without problem after it was activated.

I used codes to activate VoLTE and VoWiFi toggle switches

    ж#ж#86583#ж#ж to enable VoLTE
ж#ж#869434#ж#ж to enable call over wifi.

Both toggles are available in mobile networks settings after selecting the sim card.

after that I used that guide:2G/3G Switch-Off & 4G VoLTE Calling Device Information

I selected for my phone to only use NR/LTE network(5g and 4g). and tested by making calls - everything work as intended and phone doesn't drop to 3g for phone calls anymore.

  • They've jacked up the price once again!

    • The pre-launch sale price is over. I wouldn't say it's jacking up the price as the previous price was a combination of prelaunch sale and AliExpress site wide promotion.
