Just another Retro Handheld deal.

The Trimui Smart Pro plays up to PS1 and could be seen as a competitor to the current X55 deal.

The 4.9" screen is really nice especially for GBA and PSP.

The stock firmware isn't too bad for basic use and there's a number of CFW options under development primarily Tomato OS (more an addon than a custom firmware) and Knulli (first public alpha). I'm used to ArkOS on my RGB30 but the stock on this unit does its job for me to just play games and do a few tweaks. Will probably go Knulli once it's a bit more mature.

Primarily use this at home and it just sits next to my WFH setup for when I need a quick break :)

Much more ergonomic than those Gameboy clones.

    • True and real.

  • +3

Might be worth waiting a few days for AliExpress Sale for additional discount.

  • +1

Fuark… Another one to buy and add to my collection.

    • +1

FYI, you don’t actually have to buy them. It is possible to be happy with the devices you have.

      • +3

That's the whole point of the hobby. You don't actually play retro games, you just buy every new handheld and spend several hours setting it up, then install several different custom firmwares, and then there's another new handheld released…

        • I know, but it doesn’t have to be. You can whole the “scene” but not actually buy the latest thing (that isn’t actually any better than the previous).

          • @PainToad: ya im already too deep into it lol now its basically I have more handhelds than the ones i dont have

      • I agree, I am using an handhed thats decades old and 4.96" isnt an upgrade either!

  • +2

Yes good retro emulator. Best button quality amongst anbernic, powkiddy and miyoo devices.

    • -6

It’s not an emulator. It’s a device that runs many different emulators and other things like ports.

It’s like calling a laptop an “Excel” because it happens to be able to run Excel.

      • +2

Thanks for correcting me. It is a retro emulator device also a mini computer, port master, wifi and Bluetooth device. Video player and MP3 player (although MP3s are not detected in the main player)
Seriously though. The build quality and mainly the d-pad and face buttons are so very good as compared to others.

  • I have a RG35XX-H. Convince me I don’t need this as well lol

    • Would you like to see some pictures of 3.5" 4:3 vs 4" 1:1 vs 5" 16:9 ? :)

      • So bigger screen, though 4:3 seems it would be a better aspect ratio?

        • +3

Depends on the system and the default aspect ratio. Have a look here. As mentioned above this system is great for GBA (3:2) and PSP (16:9) especially but doesn't run the rest too badly either. :)

    • The RG35XX-H supports muOS. That’s reason enough why it’s better.

    • This is way more comfortable and sleep that actually sleeps.

  • The price is slowly getting better. I bought mine about a month ago now for $92 with a 256gb card from a different aliexpress seller. That listing is long gone now. Its a great handheld. I liked this more then the x55 which i had and sold off. The Rg35xx-H is very comparable but with a smaller screen. It all depends on what sorta fw you can run on these.

    • How is Bluetooth support for controllers and hdmi

      • +1

Tbh i haven't tried with any yet but i do have a ton of controllers here. The 8bitdo pro 2, xbox and ps4 and ps5 controllers are among a few i have.

All i did do which i always recommend doing with all these handhelds is replace the dodgy noname card with a new samsung evo or sandisk.

Ill also try out the hdmi soon.

      • +1

No HDMI but I've connected earphones and controllers via Bluetooth.

    • with a 256gb card

Please don’t tell me you’re using that.

      • Lol read above

    • Where did you sell your x55?

      • +1

I sold it privately to a mate.

  • how do you load games on this. Sorry for the dumb question

    • +1

You put them on an sd card.

      • where do you download them from

        • just google roms + game name + console name

        • So your question wasn’t “how do you load games on to this” it was “how do I pirate content”…which ozbargain doesn’t allow.

    • -1

it comes with about 10000 games on SD card it runs RetroArch and some games you need to reconfigure the controls.

      • Don’t use the included SD card 🤦

        • I bought this a month ago with the SD card and backed it up. The last firmware update moved all the MAME games around.
Looks like I paid $56.59 USD with 128G card on the 4/4/24

  • This is a good price…. Never heard of the brand though…

Wish I knew more about these retro handhelds, I do prefer the horizontal form factor.

I'm looking to do up to N64, seems from my very little research, it can do N64 but only some games.

I'm assuming it can do pretty much all PS1 games?

    Thanks :)

  • This seems to take only one SD card
Does that mean the os is on onboard memory while the SD card is for games only?

Thanks for the post op this might fix my obsession with rg35xxh

    • +1

      Yes.

I bought mine without a memory card and it was working without one.

  • Technically supports NDS but anyone tried on a non touch device?

    • I think you use one of the analogue stick to move a cursor to emulate touch input

  • I'm curious why the deal isn't that popular, considering this is better speced than the popular rg35xxh in most areas?
    Am I missing something?

    • ~AU$56.56 v ~A$84.17

      • So it's the price, thanks
I must admit it's been real hard to locate the h around the aud55 mark..

  • I had to make a new account for Ali Express, added to cart and its showing as $64.19 for me delivered.
Saying its a welcome deal for new customers if that helps anyone else get it cheaper!

  • So confused with the way Aliexpress work. OG Post leads to an item that now shows $64.06USD even though it showed lower before, but not this link shows $53.01

    • Same store, different listing.

The listing from OG Post is higher as the 'No Card' option is now out of stock (and defaults to the 64G)

      • Ahh thanks for clarification :)
Didn't really look closely as I already have one so wasn't going to order another…
