How is this a junk laptop?

I've got this model for $100 more in great condition from a different seller's deal, and it absolutely flies for basic tasks, is pretty light, has a great screen and speakers. Great battery life too. What would you be suggesting that is better value?

To those considering buying those battery conditions sound very bad though, I'd pretty much factor in extra cost of battery replacement, and wouldn't touch if you aren't confident replacing yourself. But these are pretty easily serviceable machines.
Without seeing photos of some of the marks on these it sounds like they're not in great condition unless seller is being overcautious with their wording of the wear.

using G4, i7 from their last deal and its awesome.

        • Not if U get the extreme B grade and 50% battery…

          This is lottery

          • @edgar28: then go grade A,
            there are few on ebay

            • +1

              @will05: It's still a lottery.

Ordered a A grade before. Badly scratched, usb not working, sound cracking.

Request for return and took 1 month to refund. No communication whatsoever

              • @edgar28:

                Ordered a A grade before

From whom? I have purchased from these guys before and haven't had any issues solving problems.

                • +1

@bio: You can look through the posts on ozbargain.

Many had the same experience from ACT A grade. That's why I only buy from eBay ACT just incase I need to return it.

Not stopping you from buying from them, I've got many laptops from them so far only twice having issues. Only bought A grade from them, don't have B grade experience from them (don't think I like the odds from B grade after the A grade experience)

                  • @edgar28: Sure, I had issues too (like a missing power brick), but the communication wasn't problematic. Maybe it's because I've always used eBay.

  • thank you OP!

  • Great thank you!

Physical damage is ok but scratches on the screen is a concern for me… good deal though

  • Would it run Dota 2 fine on low settings?

  • damn , Just bought the x1c for 399 , basicly the same spec.

  • +2

Batteries 50-79%, so effectively desk based machines with had it battery.

    • +1

I guess? It's sufficient for most train rides you'll be doing. If you're looking for an endurance machine for uni, something like Chromebook is better anyways.

    • How much is a replacement battery?

      • +2

        Typically around $40

  • https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/848102 Would this be a better deal? If happy to spend the extra hundred bucks, would it just be for cosmetic reasons? Is for the parents… Light use. Home-based.

    • I wouldn't personally. We run Lenovos at work and the Ryzens had alot of issues with overheating and throttling, plus the 8 series Intel is perfectly fine for general use, no reason to spend more. Although in general I would rate Lenovo build quality above HP.

      • Eeeh 8 series have just as much heat issues, really. But it shouldn't really matter for light use lol.

    • +1

16mm bigger screen, better battery condition and better cosmetic condition seem like the main differences.
So your decision if it is worth it, really.
My opinion is this HP is the better deal.

Are they going to be happy with a 13.3" screen or use an external monitor? If they have vision issues 15.6" could be a better screen size: https://www.australiancomputertraders.com.au/dell-latitude-5… or https://www.australiancomputertraders.com.au/hp-probook-650-…

  • +6

Some condition example photos would be very helpful OP. That potential condition statement is a little open ended.

    • +1

They don't photograph the machines themselves, but I've bought a few laptops from these guys in the 'B-grade' and gotta say they're in better condition then the average laptop at my work

    • +1

ordered A grade last year, no scratches on the screen, keyboard and top cover.
only tiny scratch on the bottom and rubber feet look used.
intresting to see how their B grade lookslike….

      • Luck you :)

        • I was going to ask what the communication for refunds was… lottery buying B grade with possibilty of screen scratches

          • @edumacation: Thought eBay. Stated item not as described or faulty.

They will send a return postage print out

            • @edgar28: unfortunately this is through their website and not ebay

seems a replacement battery is ~$70 so should factor that cost in

      • Ordered B grade and there was a bright patch on the screen size of a finger print.

This is a used laptop, your money isn't going to HP anyway.

  • It says these have a Thunderbolt port, if you happen to have an eGPU or whatever (not a good route into gaming and other GPU-intensive stuff compared with a desktop PC, but useful if you already have that gear handy).

  • Web site says stock available but when I check out it says none available. Tried different storage upgrades to see if that was the cause but consistent result.

  • I still use one of these for work (since new) and it's honestly fine for day to day tasks.
The battery is worse for wear these days, so I maybe only get an hour and a half out of it. Needs a replacement for sure.
It's taken a beating (dropped my laptop bag once) Aside from a minor dent in the corner of the chassis, it works fine.
The anti-virus crap my company uses slows it down significantly though.

    OOS, thanks guys

    • I've purchased this, but does it have a touch screen?

      Forgot to ask before buying!

  • Oops i wanted one for studies..

    @OP u reckon u r getting more stock soon. ?

    Thanks

    • +2

This was a clearout of a specific batch of stock. Might suss some more options tomorrow.

Would people be interested if we can do better on these?

      • Keen. Something around the $200ish mark is the sweet spot for a parent of a year 4 primary school kid who has already smashed his $400 Chromebook purchased earlier this year…

      • Keen on something A grade higher spec too if you have anything. Thanks

      • Hi Calmago, I would be very keen if you can bring in these Dynabooks with 16GB ram, cheers.

      • +1

No. Am looking for 16gb ram. 8gb is too slow..

        Thanks

      • @Calmago will you be posting anything with similar specs in the near future (1 week) ?.

        • +1

Or at this stage mate. Plenty of stock coming online so may have some last minute EOFY deals

          • @Calmago: thanks keen for 16gb ram here.

          • @Calmago: @Calmago any EOFY deals coming up for HP EliteBook x360 1040 G6 ?

  • +1

I have the hp envy g4 that has 16gb ram, i7 processor and 512gb ssd. The surestart makes loading from bios really slow even when disabled.

  • Went to buy one but out of stock. Let me know if any more stock comes online.

  • Missed out :(

  • +1

Any more stock coming with similiar specs and price?

  • Bought one and it's in good shape. A small dent on one corner and a few very small scratches (not on the screen) but everything works great. How do I check the battery health? Is this it?
