        • are you telling me Tesla cant park itself? my VW has been doin this since 2016

        • The same autonomy that was promised is going "live" a few years ago?
The same autonomy that was staged in their "FSD" is working video a few years ago?

You have no idea how hard it is to get FSD to work. Sure the ceo is overly optimistic on his projection but there is progress being made. And isn't that what matters?

The vision system that keeps telling me there are obstacles in front of me when there is nothing?
The same system that can park my car like a drunkard outside of the lines taking a few mins, which every other manufacturer seems to have developed 10 years ago perfectly?
Using this logic u will never try anything new. And will always stay with the idea of if its not broken dont touch. This is excatly how tech debt occures in company and innovation stops.

Ok, its not as good as accurate ultrasonic sensors, but is it deal breaker? Been working pretty well for me. If its a deal breaker cars will stop selling, and data still seem to point to its selling fine.

The reason why you dont get all these feature u already have in older cars is because you need to allocate resources to focus on building the companies vision (end to end nets).
So building on the new stack so the old stack (all the customer is on for now) gets ignored. People start crying cos of broken promises

U might say they have so much money lets just hire more people. This is the downfall of traditional companies and it just doesnt work.

Here's the problem with tesla, people who have never try start a tech company or work in tech have no idea and only see broken promises instead of progress. You are probably gonna call me a blind fanboy but I guess you're probably right. I don't know enough about tech companies after working in the industry for close to 10 yrs.

I see progress and potential in the long run but all you see is short term setbacks and change. it is what it is

          • +2

@BarginLord: Sorry. The difference between Tesla and other manufacturers. The end users are not Beta testers. When VW released the capability, it was 98% complete 10+ years ago. Tesla releases software like a true software house, premature and full of bugs, like microsoft in the good old days. I'm sorry you feel that is the way it should be, because in my world, its not. I will try new things, like i did paying almost 100k for a tesla. 1 trick pony, not buying one again.

Are you a software developer? I keep hearing old stack new stack shit stack being mentioned. Do you know what it means or are you reiterating words that a self centered misinformer elon keeps saying? Like the old Cybertruck is faster towing a porsche on the 1/4 mile. Debunked.

He has many times told blatant lies just to push up share prices and consumer confidence. The many years of doing so is starting to bite as there are a lot more people these days being more aware of his tactics.

            • @zeomega: "Tesla releases software like a true software house"
Yes they are taking the software approach on making cars, because old school manufacturing and project management is shit and slow. Imagine building a new company and after spending 3 years and millions of dollars its not something people want. how do you solve for this? You solve it by testing your end users

"The end users are not Beta testers."
This is the strategy all companies are headed this way, when you go on youtube/ google/ amazon you might see something new and your mate might not its called a/b testing. So in a sense yes end users are perfect beta testers because it provides quick and real feedback on what needs to be done.

              "Are you a software developer?"
Yeah I am lol, people who never worked in software don't understand how hard it is to build something useful/ customer wants which is why beta testing end users is the best way to do it. Sure you might've gotten the low end of the stick, but progress is progress.

"I keep hearing old stack new stack shit stack being mentioned. Do you know what it means or are you reiterating words that a self centered misinformer elon keeps saying?"
You dont hear other companies talking about this, because usually once a company build something that works they stop working on it and just leave it, and start adding features on top of it. Usually after 1-2 years it becomes really tedious to add new stuff on and everything is just a bandaid fix. Usually management will just work with it until forever and development slows down because of this, its called tech debt.

Tesla is the only big company that still operates like a startup and allows the engineers to just throw away the old stack and start completely from scratch carrying what they've learnt not to do. This of course has its downfall which is what ure expreiencing right now, no new features, just promises until the new stack is ready (its an investment into the future it keeps software develpoment velocity up). In this case when they say new stack its end to end neural networks.

"He has many times told blatant lies just to push up share prices and consumer confidence."
Sure he's on the spectrum but somehow it drives progress. Setting insane expectation is a way of working, parkinson's law.

There are way too many nuance shit that happens in the background that matters and manifests itself as lies/ false promises everyday people don't see. If you hate the ceo/ tesla's way of working that much before u buy a car then don't buy it. Go buy the if it ain't broke dont fix it philosophy nothing wrong with that.

Everything has its pros and cons
              Traditional company vs startups

But to say one is 100% better than the other then your blinded by your own agenda

      • +1

lol wipers have been shit for (profanity) years mate. when will they get better "2 weeks"
they have no rain sensor thats why its (profanity) god awful.

Tesla vision is awful. just put the sensors back iun

      • how long have you had the new model 3 now? I drive it daily for many months now and these little things still sh*ts me. could have been the perfect EV but they just have to fk it up!

        • daily since the start of 2024, personally i find it fine. Adjusting wiper speed with the scroll wheel doesn't really annoy me. And never bumped into anything with the vision base alerts. I'll take the overall daily experience of it over any other car at the moment. But thats just me

    • bro the indictor button is killing me… i dont even mind it if it's a real button on the wheel. half the time it doesnt even effin register!!!! and dont bother trying to find the button if the wheel is not straight. like before i turn out of a parking space or performing a U turn I need to remember to indicate first before turning the steering wheel.

also the swiping to go D or R, OMG you have to slowly swipe all the way to the end of the screen, the amount of times it failed to change gear is dangerous. almost hit a wall when it didnt engage Drive and stayed on reverse. If you dont want a stalk fine, then give me a real button!!

Lol imagine buying one of these 12-24 months ago, resale completely ruined.

    • Who sells a new car after 12-24 months?
For reference though mine was $63k driveaway with a $3k gov rebate. So around $60k total
Pricing on website says $60k drive away now
So same price I paid roughly 18 months ago
Of course mine is now the old model and valuation is around $40k but that’s expected and I wouldn’t sell anyway
Mind you I purchased on a novated lease at a good rate and the expected cost of the car over 5 years with rego, insurance, maintenance and charging is about $54k
Any ICE would have cost more and been a significant downgrade. It’s a fantastic car

      • +5

        That's a big depreciation though.

      • sorry about what happened to you

        • Don’t be sorry. I ditched my ageing ICE that cost me thousands to run every year and am very happy thanks

  • +4

When are the ICE car prices gonna start dropping too?

I like EVs, but I'm not ready to make the switch just yet

    • They won't, just the second-hand ICE prices will start dropping.

New ICE will never be cheap again unfortunately.

      • They have started to drop. MG has dropped some petrol car prices. Jeep has dropped prices. ICE cars cant afford not to be competitive

        • Outside of strategic price discounts, I don't think that'll be the case though - as in, I doubt Toyota will suddenly charge less for a Camry.

Jeep… I dunno, are they relevant? You'd only buy one at a reduced price, so they have to drop the prices else no one is buying.

MG dropped prices on their 2023 cars ahead of the midyear new model of MG 3, whilst the Hybrid that dropped in price is a 2022 model?

          • +1

@Droz: It will be interesting. Alot of EV enthusiast's pointed out that EV will decimate ICE values but the opposite seems to be happening. EV is decimating its own value and ICE values are rising.

            • @Brick Tamland: I think EVs will devalue themselves every time a new battery tech comes out, so there's a few more huge drops coming for the existing cars. Like, I'd totally buy a Nissan Leaf that can only do 100kms in its old age if it's going to drop to $2k thanks to someone else selling a semi solid state battery or something. I guess that's the early-adopter tax for 1st gen products.

I don't think ICE will go up because of EVs, it's a stable tech, and the price increase is just how we get rolled (although now ICE cars are also becoming safety feature ladden, which definitely costs more to make - thanks ANCAP).

EVs will need to get "worked out" by the manufacturers to drop in price - I heard that only Tesla was able to make a profit of their cars (I mean, they take a LOT of shortcuts and have spent on manufacturing) so the legacy car makers are struggling by losing on every single one they make.

I feel Hyundai/Kia might be the only legacy to compete, whilst the newer Chinese brands like BYD are definitely being helped out by their government… But then again, so is Tesla!

Once battery production costs drop, which seems to be happening this year , I reckon we'll see even cheaper EVs across the board.

    • +1

ICE prices are going to rise, not fall.

As more EVs are sold, less ICE cars are sold, putting their unique supply chain under stress and reducing economies of scale.

There is a name for it.

      A death spiral.

      • +1

Since the gov is so hell bent on pushing out ice cars… Exoect them to appreciate even more because hardly anyone wants to drive evs because there is not sufficient infrastructure

  • Ozdrive

  • Wait for few more weeks for EOFY sales

  • +10

why does everyone love to complain about tesla so much lol

    • +5

It's a winning combination between EV hating petrolheads and the fact that there is Elon.

    • -3

Elon Musk. Poor Quality Control. Too many on the road. Very overpriced.

    • +6

when people have nothing going for them in life they attach themselve to a group to feel like they are part of something. Instead of actually looking into why other people like it and if the product is actually good

    • +2

People like to hate on other's success.

    • It's like Apple product. They just want to make sure they have something to say.

    • +1

      Because Twitter….

When Elon Musk bought Twitter, that's when people started losing their minds.

      • +1

It is funny when people bring up Elon this or Twitter that, when hating on a particular car brand.

Like, I have NFI who the Honda or Toyota CEO is.
He/she could be a complete and utter a-hole, but it's not like it would even cross my mind when buying or driving a Honda/Toyota etc.

  • +6

Sweet price is getting updated on my order.

I feel bad for the people who got their orders before.

    • Hasn't the base model dropped around 15k since it first launched? Never seen before with any other vehicle except maybe Jeeps now.

    • +1

Wait 6 months you'll be in their position lol…

But not to worry cause i think it's a great car.

  • -4

junk car for greenies and elon worshippers.

    • What's junk about it? Not loud enough for you perhaps?

Also, why is it for Greenies? You can own a Tesla and still burn more fossil fuels than an ICE car, if you wish to… Yay.

    • -1

I don't think any rational person would call 'greenies' 'elon worshippers'.

      Sounds a bit unhinged.

  • +17

    Prepare yourself for:
EV = Not enough charging, It's not that enviromentally friendly etc etc
    Elon = bad
    Tesla = cheap/ dying company

Before u come at me saying im a tesla/elon fanboy. I own a type R and a model 3. So yes I like cars. All I can say its a superior product compared to ICE car for your everyday commute given u have a place to charge it at home/ free charging near you.

People don't understand they are paying for a software and tech. All the small refinement/ small touches in the software that makes it a great product. EVs are just a no brainer for daily commute (which is 90% of your drive) paired with Tesla's software it's a great experience.

Have also driven my family to regional victoria several times without any charging issues, just requires a quick search on PlugShare to see where the chargers are at. Down near wilson prom the chargers are free and charges at 50kw.

People who have never owned an EV and an ICE car somehow have a stronger opinion ¯_(ツ)_/¯. And guess what I still bring my type r/bike out to fang it once in a while cos they are both good a different things. People with a small brain/ people who only live on the internet can't comprehend this.

    • -6

      Lol @ TypeR….

Thanks OP just pulled the trigger on one for my mistress!

    • hopefully the wife gets something as well

      • The wife (ex) will get the house

        • +1

          Much better deal.

          • @Brick Tamland: I couldn't help but think how dark it is to buy a mistress a Tesla considering the tracking functions.

    • better check with the mistress first, she might have already put down a deposit for a BYD sealion 😬

  • Just shooting my shot out there - Do you think any chance of them honouring this price drop if I have taken delivery less than 14 days back? Anyone have any experience with such?

    • No chance

    • Ouch

    • Elon Musk will send you a Nelson Muntz gif.

  • These price drops have to start affecting the ICE market soon.

    • +2

      Only the upper end
Luxury sports models are being impacted by the incredible performance of EVs

  • +2

They need to hurry up and release the updated referral program!

    • Absolutely! I’ve made a few grand on referrals. Most of the from ozb. Thanks to you great people!

  • +1

    BYD hurting Musk?

    • Not at all BYD CEO was recently talking about this, citing they do not compete with Tesla, the market is huge and they target different consumers.
Tesla and BYD are actually quite supportive of each other.
There have been over 10 EV makers in China go bust this year, selling cars ridiculously cheap, plus lithium at record lows.

  • +1

    BYD your move now

    • I feel BYD already made the move, the Seal Performance is priced comparatively to this?

      • But it’s not as good

        • +2

Not sure I agree, both have pros and cons. Worth comparing and driving both

          • +1

@smoothymcmellow: I have driven both. Also own an Atto 3
            BYD makes good cars
            Teslas are better to drive

            • +2

@choofa: I can't comment on long term ownership but I have the Seal. Drive is one aspect.
Most reviews say the Tesla has a sportier drive, Seal is more comfortable
Tesla has leaned into minimalistion, Seal kept indicators, instrument panel etc… build quality is high
Seal has better battery tech, Tesla has better charging
              Seal has android auto/apple carplay
              Seal better cameras
              Tesla software better
              Lots to compare

              • +1

@smoothymcmellow: It’s definitely open to interpretation.
The seal is a nice car to drive
But the Tesla is more fun. The proper one pedal driving, weight and responsiveness put it significantly in front in my testing
Also the Tesla technology is way better, the UI/UX in the BYD needs to improve
Also the Tesla autosteer is a huge upgrade on the BYD ADAS

  • +3

USA put 100% Tarif on Chinese EVs. Wait a few months for the market to be flooded, prices should come down more with new Chinese EV makers also coming to AU instead. Skrrrtttt.

  • Prices are going to keep on dropping.

US applying tariffs to China EVs.

Australia has free trade agreement with China which covers cars therefore China will send more EVs here.

    Going to be fun times.

If petrol demand goes down due to rise of EVs fuel price isn't really going to go up. Oil is USD have remained pretty consistent for a decade (excluding COVID, war spikes). Only flux is due to value of AUD and also government taxes.

    • Its a good time to be looking at the luxury 2nd hand gas powered cars as they are very out of favour right now.

    • +1

Valid point, but China doesn't YET sell many EVs to USA.

  • 50 K for long range Model3/Y, happy to wait a year.

  • HODL

  • +1

I drove the new performance highland it’s good :) I will be sticking with my 2023 model 3 but when I finally upgrade in 6 or 7 years time I will definitely go the performance model :D

    • Yes it's a great car with good suspension, but the suspension on the performance model is excellent!!! Out of my budget though.

    • Do they have the 2024 performance at dealers to check out and test drive?

      • +1

some do not all you need to look up which teslas are doing it and which aren't

  • +3

Hope theTesla 3 will be $29990 driveaway soon…no more to pay.

    • Then Tesla doesn't have to worry about a completely new car for a lower price bracket. More time spent on rocket car

      • The new model 3 is faster than anything on Australians roads currently unless u own a Bugatti lol, all the Holden and ford drivers pretty much can’t hold a candle to a model 3 performance.

        • It's not that fast. My motorcycle will out accelerate it

        • Guess all the bogans will be driving the tesla 3 soon

    • They won’t go that cheap model 3 will always be higher than 50k because the new lower model 2 will come out which will be around that price.

      • +2

because the new lower model 2 will come out which will be around that price

what model 2? reports are canned development in recent elon 'decision'. Robotaxi plans full steam ahead
        eg article
        https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a60428602/tesla-model-2-af…

        • That is not quite correct. Tesla have paused the new manufacturing process, instead will use their existing process to launch the upgraded Y, Robo taxi and smaller affordable SUV(ie: 2) that will share the same platform as the Robotaxi.

But due to Inflation, and currency conversion, $25k will be $40k plus in AUS.

  • My MY has dropped 9K in price. When I saw this post it was very upsetting to know that the value on my car has dropped by 9K in 3 months. Took the delivery back in Feb 2024 after waiting for 5 months thanks to all the GC dramas.overall a very poor experience. The only thing that makes it better is the car which is a dream to drive.

You win some you lose some..
Famous reply from TA back in the days when he was here when he told me that I might have been overpaid due to glitch in cashback. I offered to pay him back (CR) and he said nah don’t worry “you win some you lose some”

I’ve lost as well but like you say, enjoyed the superior driving and saved so much from free charging at home and work :)

    • My 2023 model 3 droped 10k in 14 months took delivery in March 2023

    • +1

My MY has dropped 15k from '22 when I bought it. It happens.

    • 🤣 this is quite well done

  • +1

im losing track of the price, is there a chart of the 12 month moving average?

    • -2

Yes what happens when the price is delisted? As in Tesla shuts? There will be a lot of problems with warranties. Elon has ruined Twitter and I can see he is having sleepless nights while trying to defend his patch from the Chinese . My Biden has brought in a 100% tariff on the Chinese cars but the chinese can sell then very cheap.
I recall when Australia still was making the Holden in Adelaide. The VW plant in China was making the VW Golf as a base model and it would have sold for $12,000 Australian if there was no restrictions. I can see the chinese cars becomnig very cheap as they (the chinese) have no minimum wage and also no maximum hours to work.
