      4k 120hz pass through.

AI: The Samsung HW-Q990D is the next generation model following the Samsung HW-Q990C, and one notable difference between the two is the addition of HDMI 2.1 in the Q990D model. This new feature allows the Q990D to passthrough 4k signals at 120Hz, which is particularly beneficial if you're gaming with a next-generation console. This update could enhance your gaming experience by supporting higher resolution and faster frame rates.
While both models might look similar in design and largely share the same hardware, this key update in connectivity offers a significant advantage, especially for users who prioritize gaming performance or want the latest technology for future-proofing their home entertainment setup. Apart from this, both models feature 11.1.4Ch audio for an immersive Dolby Atmos experience, illustrating their capability to deliver high-quality sound for movies, music, and gaming.
If these differences align with your entertainment priorities, especially gaming, the Q990D might be the more suitable option for you.

  • Nice. I paid $1244, it's excellent

Great price for such a new product. Got one 2 weeks ago from TGG Commerical at $200~ extra. Setup is a breeze

    $1199 at JB: https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/samsung-q990d-q-series-11…

Perhaps they might be able to match a similar deal.

Edit: just noticed this is mentioned in OP but wanted to mention that I have managed to negotiate a similar deal with them before (I'd rather have JB vouchers than HN vouchers and I refuse to give HN money after what they did during COVID).

    • Messaged JB HiFi and the best I got was $1186 and the offer to throw some other low value things in.

      • Is it better to try instore? Would be great to get 10% or even $100 JB store credit instead of HN.

        • +1

If you have the time and inclination, you'd probably do better in store with the right person.
I'd have prefered it too, but I went with HN + 2% cashrewards vouchers - I had one day off 😅

        • +1

Just walked out of JB. They price matched the $1 and gave me a non expiring gift card with 10% ($119.8).

          • @TheIngster: That's great to know. May I know which JB Hi-Fi that you went to? I'm in Sydney region. Anywhere there?

            • @iamjk: I'm in regional victoria so can't speak for Sydney region. I just showed the guy the Harvey Norman deal on my phone and asked what they can do. He went and got his manager who put it all through.
Looks like its no longer on sale at JB but still is at Harvey Norman. Hopefully they will still price match it for you. Good luck

  • Are there wall mounts available for the soundbar+rears?

    • +1

Comes with soundbar mounts in box. Check Amazon for a variety of rear mounts. Grabbed the dream stands last week but you’ll find plenty of wall mounts too.

If you have a friend with a 3d printer there are nice little french cleat mounts that you can print that work a treat. I printed them and they are working perfectly, assume the Q990C and Q990D are the same one screw system. .

  • Is there sub pass out to different brand/bigger sub?

    • No audio outs incl sub. Best to go av receiver if you want more power.

    • Sub is pretty decent as is.

  • I find Samsung's flagship soundbar setups really compelling value (given the epic sound and features) at the price they're usually available at pretty quickly in Australia. I thought Samsung was trying to avoid discounting so much and position itself more upmarket for the next generation but I guess not.

The only reason I didn't bite the bullet and get a Samsung soundbar/surround set up was the physical dimensions of the soundbar itself wouldn't fit on my TV stand/under our Samsung TV (it was both slightly tall and too deep to fit between the awkward shaped legs of the TV stand). Since it's a rental I wasn't going to wall mount the TV so I gave up on this and bought the best sounding but shorter/slimmer soundbar I could get (Bose 900).

If I could've fit this in, I would go for it. Samsung's flagship soundbars sound epic.

    • They are big hey, my old Samsung was huge especially compared to a Bose/Sonos. Better value for money tho

      • Yeah for the sound quality/experience/features the Samsung flagships at circa $1-$1.2k are much better value for money than the Bose/Sonos/etc brands which are similarly priced but don't include satellites or sub.

    • +1

You can get a TV stand with adjustable height for $50-$100 on Amazon. I did that to fit my centre speaker.

      • Thanks for pointing this out, it has been annoying me for ages.

Superb deal. Great value, I have the q990d coming from a full hifi 7.2 setup, don't miss the old setup. Really happy with it. I paid 1270, so this is a terrific deal.

  • I have been reading a lot of about this new model. Can anyone advise how does this compare to Sonos Arc with two Eras Set up? Sonos is significantly expensive in comparison to Q990, however I am keen to understand if it worth it?

Note, I currently have a Sonos Bean hooked up to LG and love it. I can may move it to my spare Tv in the room and hook up the Q990D. Interestingly I have also placed order for the Samsung TV S90C which is expected to arrive second week of June. All thanks to OzBargain post last week https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/845157 !

I mostly watch movies but don't mind blasting some music using the sound bar.

Edit - Is this the right way to link to OZbargain post?

    • +1

Compared to the arc, the Samsung's blows it away in terms of surround sound. The setup is simple and just works for the most part. It has casting, airplay and Spotify connect for music. For music the Samsung is good, decent all rounder but not great.

However this is the complete package, not just the arc plus paying extra for the sub plus the era, is almost double the price but not double the value.

Btw I also have Sonos gen 1 beam, IKEA symphonix and playbase. I use them for music, esp networked music and they are great at what that do. For a complete surround sound experience in terms of value for money, the q990d absolutely beats the competition, it's no comparison.

      • Thanks man. You have convinced me to buy this! Phew….Ozbargain is making me spend non-stop!

        • +2

Won't regret it. This is like having a cinema in your house. Pair it with a big TV lol.

    Cool, I had a listen
then went to buy it from a more reputable outlet, worth the extra I paid!

  • If anyone has had any luck with getting rid of the dolby atmos latency on the xbox please let me know. Seems to be a ms problem or some people have tried things they claim have worked but nada for me so far.

  • I have a several year old 60inch LG TV that’s not so smart anymore, but I’m still happy with it using google chromecast (and I don’t want to have to mess around with mounting a new TV on the wall).

But I do need a new sound system… can I make this easily work with an older non-Samsung TV ?

    • +1

Not sure if you can make it work but this model is probably overkill unless you need HDMI 2.1 (which your TV might not have?). Might be better off checking out the cheaper 990C model.

  • Anyone know of replacement cables instead of using a extension cable? Need to be longer.
