My nose is starting to sniff desperation from the Murdoch camp. First, the 'no contract' campaign, and now this. I'm thinking Foxtel will need to stop rolling out the cable and satellite gear and get IPTV (a-la-FetchTV) asap.

+1 for the deal though. Thanks OP.

I really don't think Foxtel is desperate considering they just bought Austar lol..
Also, Foxtel subscribers have IPTV available with a broadband connection and have also just released Foxtel GO for iPad.

Live sport is the only thing that makes Foxtel worthwhile, which is why Sport is always an add-on pack, and never included in the basics.

I'm looking forward to the day when fast broadband takes away this final advantage pay TV has over us. It's already getting there for some.

What about the people that don't like sport and don't think they should have to pay for it as part of the basic package? Do you think that could be the reason why Foxtel doesn't add it to their base package….?
Makes sense considering sport is probably the most expensive expense to ascertain broadcast rights..

So the idea of Foxtel is to get all my shows significantly after they appear in the US and then have to watch the same movies for a month until they change the rotation?

    Not worth the money…

Its good for live sport as long as its not UFC etc which is easily retrieved elsewhere.

    • So it's safe to say that only one decent movie is released at the cinemas every 2-3 weeks yet you believe that Foxtel should air a decent movie each day??
I think you should speak to Hollywood about that….

These comments are just ridiculous.. I fully believe in getting a good deal and LOVE OzBargain but I think some of you are being unrealistic with your expectations.

    $100 EFT card is for you— a current active Foxtel customer;
Three months free is for your friend who are referred by you.

So you can not get both at the same time in general.

A good Ozbargainer friend will split the $100 with you. You can get the same offer without the $100 if you simply sign up on your own.

if this had sport it would be pretty sweet, but just for normal tv shows and movies its not really worth it, they are, ahem, available online

I really don't think you can suggest this isn't a deal purely because you can illegally download movies. This doesn't constitute them as being "free".
On the same token you should be able to suggest that a 95% clothes discount at a retail store would not be worth it purely because you are able to steal the same clothes and thus will be getting them for free.

Comparing this offer to their regular offerings, this is a good deal.
Comparing this offer to illegal downloads is irrelevant.

      • +2

I never said anything about illegal downloads, there are numerous places where you can watch free, legal tv shows and movies, such as crackle, hulu and even youtube. And for 14.99 a month you can stream an unlimited amount of movies and tv shows from quickflix, straight to your tv, ipad, ps3, android or whatever.

I know streaming is not the same as tv, but for someone who cares more about the bottom line, 15 bucks a month is a lot cheaper and quicker then 40 bucks.

  • $100 friend get friend is not a special deal its been around for years only deal is 45 off for the first 3 months which is almost the same credit as all their other deals they provide

  • +1

3 months free in 6 month plan is already their offer for new customers. No referral needed. But they charge installation in this offer which makes it totally worthless.

  • I was going for the iinet fetch tv but I personally think they have to improve their transmission reliability. Thus I just signed up and my father in law will contribute $100 toward my bill.
