You can combine this router and a eligible HDMI cable to get $20 off if you have studentbeans account:

    $78.9 + $5.99 - $20 = $64.89

I've got 2 of these in a easymesh config with ethernet backhaul (TP-Link is adding ethernet backhaul to current/future routers that have easymesh/onemesh support) and they haven't skipped a beat. For the price I'd recommend

    • Are you able to run wireless mesh between 3 of AX1500's in a mesh configuration?

      • +2

You can have up to 10 mesh points afaik but I could be wrong

        • +2

Thank you, it does seem to be that way and with ethernet backhaul, you're getting a good Wi-Fi 6 mesh at this price point.

      • I have the same question - looking to do 3 in a mesh with ethernet backhaul - possibly 4

        • +1

Looks like it can be done (don't hold me to it as info is scarce). Additionally and really punching above the price point here, you can also run it in AP mode

          • +1

@ciyborg: Nice, for the price - I'll grab 4 and test

  • +1

This is a really good price for this router, I have had one for around 3 years now and have had no issues with it at all.

  • Does this work with Omada Mesh?

    Looks like no?

    WTF….?

  • Does anyone know if you can connect 1 or 2 of these to an ASUS RT-AX55 to make some form of mesh network?

    • +1

No, TP-Link and Asus together doesn't create a mesh network. Purchase more Asus routers to make a mesh with the RT-AX55.

  • I'm getting FTTP soon would this be good in addition to google wifi or do I need to upgrade the mesh?

    • No, TP-Link and Google together doesn't create a mesh network. Do you have the Google Wi-Fi 1st gen or Google Nest Wi-Fi?

      • First gen and from what I've read Nest sucks but not sure about the pro version

        • Google Wi-Fi 1st gen is compatible with FTTP. Purchase a new mesh router system if you get Gigabit.

  • Dumb question: would this work with a mobile hotspot? Say I connect this to a mobile hotspot and then connect my devices to this for better coverage?

    • +1

Yeah that's what I do with my samsung A8 tablet with 4G. I needed to buy an adapter which had usb-c to ethernet and usb-c.

Reception is not the best though but for $35/month it's acceptable.

  • +1

I got one and it works well. I'm jealous of my brother's asus router which has an inbuilt adblock feature.

  • I've got one of these and it has been fantastic. Wifi range and speed work well, and it never seems to need rebooting like every Netgear and DLink I've had prior to it.

  • Can anyone comment on real-world speed differences between Wifi 5 and 6? I still have an ASUS RT-AC68U which has served me well for over 6 years, so wondering if it's worth the upgrade.

    • I'm in the same boat, have been pretty happy with my ac68u until a week ago when it had some connection error that I could only resolve by doing a factory reset.
Had been looking at the TP Link AXE75 for a bit of future proofing but getting this and saving 300 bucks is pretty appealing.

    • I'm in the same boat with a good wifi 5 Asus, mine works fine, still able to easily max out my 100mbps NBN, 4k streams etc… I'm think I'll just let sleeping dogs lie untill wifi 7 becomes reasonably priced.

    • +1

Just FYI for anyone interested and still checking this - I ended up buying the router and am seeing a pretty significant upgrade in wireless download speeds when compared to the AC68U. Almost double in fact.

The other big difference is how Wifi 6 handles multiple wifi sources - I no longer see a significant degradation in speed for my other devices when say downloading a steam game on my Steamdeck.

    Pros:
    Hehe secks number

    Cons:
    Only 802.11n on 2.4ghz
Broadcom are an evil evil company.

    • What's up with Broadcom?
Will avoid now, but please share details, thanks

      • Horrible to troubleshoot

You are comparing brand new to used. I reckon you wont notice any difference if you are light to medium users with NBN slower than 250mbps. I have about 10-12 devices connected and have no problem from TP-Link Archer AX1500.

      • I did mean product to product, not new vs used.
I'm confused by the AX1500 vs AX5400 value proposition, whether 1500 feels like it's bottlenecking, but you did answer this so thank you.
