    thanks lil birdie

Are there any ebay codes to make it even cheaper?

    • -3

Nah all those dirty neggers don't believe in cheaper prices. They only want deals at full price or RRP.

      • Add another 2 neggers to the list of who likes to pay full price only. Shall we have more?

    • Can't use two codes but can use discounted gift cards. Maybe cashback but often using a code is excluded

    • To neggers, When this was posted there were no listed by OP

  • This or Firestick? Pros 'n' Cons? 🤔

    • +2

This and I have both. I had to sideload stremio and tivimate on fire stick where Chromecast just had it.

      • wait so I can use the Stremio + Real debrid on the chromecast or just Stremio.

        • +1

Stremio is the video add-on. Stremio then 'talks' to RD to get you the service. So all you need it to be able to load Stremio on the device, the rest is done in the add-on's settings.

      • What IPTV provider/s are you using for tivimate? Worth the money?

        • +1

I'd recommend keeping this dicussion in the DM's, might break TOS of this site.

    • Firestick
      Pros - better specs
      Cons - worse software

      Chromecast TV
      Pros - better software
      Cons - worse specs

I recommend spending more and getting an AppleTV. Now that emulators are probably coming to AppleTV I don’t see any advantage to Android based streaming sticks anymore (besides price).

      • What are emulators?

        • +1

          For playing retro games.

      • Firestick has emulators as well

        • Where did I say it didn’t? My point was the advantage Android devices have is the ability to run emulators easily. That is soon probably not going to be an advantage anymore because AppleTV will have them also.

          • +5

@PainToad: apple is always a locked down eco system, i wouldnt hold to much hope on that being to the same level of the firestick or higher end android boxes unforunately

            • +1

@asa79: Emulators are now officially allowed. They’ve already made it onto the App Store for iPhones and iPads. The Provance emulator is currently going through review for the AppleTV.

The only thing that isn’t allowed is JIT which means no high end emulation like PS2, GameCube and Wii. But none of these cheap Android sticks will do those either. The ShieldTV can, but that’s not a stick or cheap.

      • +5

I don’t see any advantage to Android based streaming sticks anymore (besides price).

Sure, but price is a huge one. Apple TV costs 3-4x more. It's a bit ridiculous to expect that a $50 product gives you the same experience as a $200+ product.

Not that I don't see the value in an Apple TV, more so that it's just a different market segment.

        • For sure. But for something I use all the time, I’d personally spend the extra money.

      • Why get an Apple TV - for the price, grab a Nvidia Shield - much better unit

        • I decent alternative, but I wouldn’t say “much better”.

As for why not, well the thing is ancient now and still expensive considering its age.

          • @PainToad: Yeah, the only reason I have one is it does audio passthrough for Dolby Atmos or DTS:X. None of the other devices mentioned has that.

      • Apple TV
Pros - same display quality as Chromecast with Google TV
        Cons - Apple price tag

This if you want to watch Kayo in 4k.

      • If I buy this they'll probably push out an update to the Firestick. Not sure what's taking them so long. Is it contractual?

        • +2

Please buy this so they push out the 4K update to the Firestick. Thank you… :)

      • Niche but noteworthy - if like many others on ozbargain, you have a Turkish Google play profile for cheap YouTube premium, you cannot download Kayo onto the chromecast. It will say “not available in your country”. My Samsung TV kayo app allows for 4K so it’s not an issue for me, but might be for others.

        • Can't you just sign in to the Chromecast with the Aussie Account and use your Turkish account on the YouTube app?

          • @Cousin IT: It’s probably on me for not making an entirely different account for Turkish YouTube - I’ve got an Australian Google account with a Turkish payments profile. I’m not gonna mess with it out of fear of losing cheap YouTube premium, and it’s no biggie since in-built TV apps + fire stick + PS5 all offer alternatives for Kayo, and Kayo + Binge are the only apps affected on the chromecast. Can still cast to it just fine from my phone. But anyone who wants a chromecast for 4K Kayo while having a Turkish payments profile attached to their Google account will be shit outta luck without another device that can run Kayo 4K

Firestick for TrueHD passthrough and refresh rate switching that works.

      • How responsive is the interface on this? On the 4K Firestick man, like liquid butter.

        • 4k max is definitely more responsive - i have both

        • I cant help with comparisons, but if you allow dev mode, you can change the animations to half time duration which makes it snappier.

    • I have both. Firestick has better processor and only better thing I found with it is dialogue enhancer. If only dialogue enhancer is available in chromecast, I would prefer this way over firestick despite weaker processor

      • I would prefer this way over firestick despite weaker processor

Mmm sounds like you are more impressed with the Firestick's performance and features and yet still prefer Google. Brand loyalty?

  • Does the Google Chromecast include Prime Video?

Oh, I see it's only Ebay Plus.

    • +13

      What?!?

    • To use Google Chromecast with Prime Video, you need the most recent version of the Prime Video app for either iOS or Android. From the Prime Video app, select the Cast icon. Select the Chromecast device that you wish to use. Your iOS or Android device must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your Chromecast.

      https://www.google.com/search?q=prime+video+on+chromecast+tv…

      • That's to use the Chromecast casting protocol, aka send it from you phone or PC to the device, it's what the previous generations of Chromecast did.

This one can still cast, but have the OS too, you just download the app and can stream Prime Video content directly from the device without needing another device to cast from.

    • I could easily download on my chromecast from their official store. The responsiveness is not the great compared to firestick but overall chromecast is much better for its UI

      • Prime runs like sh1t on my chromecast. Even the old foxtel box in the shed runs Prime better.

  • Can this be used without an internet connection? I want to stream from my phone to an old tv.

    • +1

You may not need internet connection (not definitely sure) but you definitely need to be connected to same wifi network to be able to stream

  • Is this better than my smart TV to run Kodi? I have an old-ish Sony. My TV is quite slow, especially with widgets. Running Fen + RealDebrid. Or FireStick/other?

    • Yes

    • No

      Wait for next model.

    • Yes. 1000% better.

    • Thanks guys. So… This / wait for the new model / something else you'd recommend? I don't mind spending more as I use Fen + RD exclusively now.

      • If you don’t mind spending then invest in a SHIELD TV and don’t need to worry about it for a few years simple

Do not buy, the new tv OS has a frame rate matching bug that google refuses to acknowledge or fix.

    • +1

Sounds typical of how Google support their products.

    • +1

I ended up having to return and got a firestick 4k max. Much better

    • How does this bug manifest?

      • +1

Just from the get go, frames stuttering on every app. Chrome cast from phone works ok but when using any app in google tv I experienced it.

    • +1

the new tv OS has a frame rate matching bug that google refuses to acknowledge or fix

People talk about this on whirlpool, I am not sure what this bug about, can't feel it myself.

    • +1

I had this issue with variable frame rate matching. I think I fixed it by setting it to the TVs frame rate. Doesn't happen with all TVs either.

    • Really? I'm using FRM on both my LG OLED and 2011 Samsung.

      Works fine?

I have to choose the SECOND FRM option (can't remember what it's called) the first one doesn't work but I can handle the small blanking while it changes refresh rate then it's all OK? No stuttering.

      • Yep the second option is Non-Seamless. I know mine is on the same option and i don't have framerate problems.

  • +1

What time does this go live?

    • +4

10am AEST like all other deals.

      • +2

        Thank you!

  • +12

Keep in mind, there's a new Chromecast with Google TV coming. Info or announcement seems likely at Google I/O 2024 in less than a week.

    • +5

Buy now, wait for announcement, and then return if better deal after announcement

  • +2

Cheers BG, ISP, HB and the rest of the gang! You (and the sellers who power this) are the real reason I keep my eBay Plus sub going (which, thanks to you folks, costs me less than a couple of coffees)

  • This for elderly parents that are struggling to use a new TLC?

    • Absolutely

      • Does it have all the normal TV channels, or will they still have to manoeuvre around that?

        • Would love other input, but for me the only way to have the FTA channels on this is via IPTV. I got the stream urls from Matt Huisman and put them on tivimate (I'm only using the free version). Personally, I find it easier to still use FTA like normal. You can set up the remote buttons to do other things or even just with HDMI CEC makes it simple enough to switch between on a single remote.

          • @mantis0147: Thank Mantis, my folks struggle to understand the difference between the power button and the home button, I might just make them a manual for the TV remote lol

    thanks op got 1

  • +2

Keep trying, I got bumped out of my cart but tried again and it worked

  • "You already applied this code to an order".. ummm, no?

  • Bought one - question, why would I use this over the stock os of TCLC845? I AM DUMB PLEASE HELP

    • why would I use this over the stock os of TCLC845?

I think C845 already have Google TV

    • I have the C835 and that has a very capable processor and runs Google TV excitement smoothly

  • +1

    Got one, thanks

  • +1

    Got one. Thanks!

  • +1
