I am now super interested in this phone because of the newly announced keyboard attachment: https://www.clicks.tech/en/products/clicks-for-google-pixel

    • +1

Wow!!! USD99 and USD133 after intro offer.

      • Yeah, keyboard is not cheap :(

      • and for an item that's going to be obsolete after a year, as google releases new phones all the time

        • +2

Sorry, do you believe that the Pixel 9 will be obsolete the same day that a newer model is released?

          • +1

@DiscountForThee: I think they mean the accessory, not the phone. For the tiny % of consumers who want a BB-style keyboard, I doubt the price nor ability to use on newer phone models is much of a consideration.

            • @heef:

I think they mean the accessory, not the phone.

I mean, sure the case is likely not compatible with a newer model. But that doesn't reduce any of the functionality of the case and phone that you're using right now. Saying "going to be obsolete after a year" is a pretty wild statement haha

            • @heef: I don’t understand why they can’t release a universal version using MagSafe that would work for a wide range of current and future phones.

    • Why would I want a top-heavy phone that's hard to text on though?

      • +1

Because you like physical keyboards that have some counterweight in the base to help counteract the imbalance? Why else?

        • From looking up reviews I've only found it makes the phone harder to use and it's still faster to just use touch interface to type.

    • +3

Don't understand the downvotes. This is a niche accessory, of course it's not going to be cheap. This fulfils the hankering some people have for the classic BlackBerry keyboards.

Not to mention the Moto Razr version shown in the above video is super cool!

  • This or S24?

      This.

I personally love pixels, so i'd always reocmmend them for their top tier cameras and sleek, minimalist interface, along with all the little bells and whistles of things like call screening, spam blocking etc. That said, I'd probably hold out for the pixel 10 later this year, as they've moved the tensor design and manufacture to tsmc for this one.

But the major blow for samsung in Australia is that we're stuck using their exynos processors, instead of the much faster and more effcient snapdragon processors. It's very telling in Korea that they now use snapdragon, like the galaxies they ship to America. It's just us and Europe who have to contend with the crappy exynos.

      • +2

Agree. I had an Exynos Galaxy once but never again. Pixel is the easy decision, despite the Tensor being based on Samsung's Exynos chipset. It performs WAY better.

        • +2

I stupidly went back for seconds from the s10 to the s20. After the shitshow of a phone the s10 was, with constant slowdowns, glitches etc i was told by sammy stans "nah guys, they've totally fixed things with the new one, it's buttery smooth this time, promise!". Well, the s20 fixed nothing, because exynos is trash and the phone had the same shudder/stutter problems and glitches with things like gboard lagging on open or opening, then closing immediately after. You know things are bad when the common advice is "Hey, you just need to restart your phone once a week and do a full reset once a year to keep it snappy." Yeah, no, i'm not doing that. i immediately returned it and got a pixel 5 and it was the best phone I'd had since the nexus 5.

          • +2

@Charmoffensive: I brushed off ozbargainer warnings about skipping the Exynos S24, thinking they were just being dramatic. How wrong I was.

          • +2

@Charmoffensive: Right? Imagine being told to restart your phone once a week and consider that "normal". I used to have a Pixel 6a and loved it. Currently using a S21 FE and Motorola ThinkPhone (both snapdragon).

            • @Maths Debater: How are you finding the Moto? I was hanging out for a deal on the 50 ultra but grew impatient.

      • +4

After going from a Pixel 5 to an S23, I can safely say my next phone will be a Pixel. As much as I love the Galaxy EDU price offers, the day-to-day Pixel experience is unmatched.

        • +1

Interesting, I am still on the Pixel 5 but have/had been on the lookout for a runout deal on a (rare) new S23. So your perspective is quite instructive. I think I'll end up getting the P10 at whatever half-decent launch deal there is.

          • @Charlie Dont Surf: If you can hold out til August, then yeah I'd say wait. The S23 isn't bad by any means, I just miss the little things the Pixel did so well. Like the camera processing, now playing feature, fluid animations, pixel feature drops to name a few.

          • @Charlie Dont Surf: The March update for the Pixel 9 seems to have really improved battery life, so maybe a pixel 9 runout deal might be in the pipeline.

      • +2

call screening is crazy useful. I can't imagine going without it now

      • Imo not much difference between 8 and 9. So yes skip 9 and as usual 10 will be expensive at release, wait 8-10 months after release then price to be reasonable

This vicious cycle on pricing applies for all Android flagships

    • +1

Definitely the Pixel 9. I bought the S24 from a recent deal and it feels like a genuine downgrade from my previous P6P. The camera is muddier and navigating can feel sluggish.

  • +1

Pixel 10 coming out in ?August if youre not in a big rush, likely marked down P9's to typically follow

    • Yeah wouldn't be surprised if it dropped to somewhere around the $800 mark (or lower, but the USD exchange rate isn't great), in the weeks around the Pixel 10 launch?

  • Anyone tried getting a price beat at office works?

    • Yep, had to call a few stores though.

  • Nothing 3a is around the corner!

    • What are the specs like compared to these phones?

    • -1

Just a note, only the 3a Pro has eSIM. So if you travel somewhat regularly, the 3a will be quite inconvenient.

No wireless charging either, but I never use that.

      • You can get 3rd party physical esim adapters to get around that now. If you're someone who wants a budget/mid-range phone it's a solid workaround since they generally don't include esim.

        • Yeah I have heard of those, but I would prefer a built-in solution. It also keeps my wallet happy, so there's that!

  • +1

How likely are good 9a pre-order deals?
Debating copping one of these vs waiting

  • is it the one with client scanning already ? (to monitor/read/hash your photos ala apple/windows recall style)

  • who remembers pixel 8a on launch day jbhifi deal for 350 dollars

  • I'm waiting deals on the Fold one but hardly see one (missed them on Black Friday and Christmas) …Does anyone know why ?

  • 128gb 💀on 2025

  • So this means you add a plan and then cancel you still get to keep the phone after paying $949

128GB with no sdcard is not very good in 2025
