      • And then you use that trade-in coupon code when preordering the pixel 8a?

  • +6

Ends up being $349 if you value the $200 voucher and $300 bonus
    Not too bad

    • Can you use the $300 and $200 at the same time of purchase?

      • +4

The $200 looks like you get 2 weeks later

        • When does this voucher expire?

        • It has been a week and I am still waiting for mine :(

      • Yeah the $200 is a jbhifi voucher you will get later after purchase

The $300 you get before the purchase with the "trade in" of an old phone

        • Dam would’ve been great to get that off from the start!

          • @SneakyCliff: I guess if you sold the Jb voucher for $150 it would be more like $400 for the phone, which is a decent price

        • On the site says in ordering in store you will be given a coupon at the time of collection. Does it mean they give the $200 and we can use it on the purchase straight away? Can anyone confirm?

          • @allstars09: I'm fairly certain that the code is for the $300 bonus on top of your device trade in. The $200 gift card will be sent to you at a later time.

          • @allstars09: Yes that's what I read as well, 2 weeks for gift card if bought online and straight away in store on launch day. So i do wonder if you can cash it in at the time of purchase.

      • -1

What if I don't open the pixel (keep it in original packaging) then return it once I get the gift card.

Do I have to return the gift card? Or can I keep it to re-buy the pixel 8a?

  • +1

So if my iPhone 12 is valued at $120, I'll get $420 credit??

    • +1

      Correct

      • So then it makes sense to pick an item that has higher trade in value?

Or better for a $1 item?

Intention is to not post the item anyway.

        • Do we know what happens here?

          • +1

@Kammi: The website requires you to enter a credit card for preauth for the amount of the credit. So if you don't return your $1 or $300 phone they will charge the amount. So if not intending to return the item I am guessing $1 is the way to go.

        • +3

Just go with the $1 item (they'll charge you either way).

        • +4

Whatever your trade in item is, they take an authorisation from your credit card at the time you submit it. So if you dont intend to send trade in item in, probably just best to trade in a cheap $1 item, like a Samsung watch

          • @Whatisthatvelvet: I actually want the pixel 9 and don't want to get stung for next time jb does a killer deal on its pre order.

So I'm thinking more for next time, this phone is ridiculously cheap ~$350 without sending the trade in but will I get done!?

          • +2

@Whatisthatvelvet: So JB's trade-in system doesn't also charge you some kind of admin fee like Samsung does with their $60 after you don't send your 'phone' in?

            • @vawiyoci: I've never done the process before but was about to get the wife a P8P 256GB from this deal but i snoozed on it.
I'm just going by what I've previously read about others that have done the same thing. A few people have contacted them to say they've changed their mind and are keeping the trade in item. Others have just not sent item in and have done this a few times. It's probably best not to do it over and over so I'd probably just stick to the first option and contact them after purchasing new phone.

              • @Whatisthatvelvet: Yep thanks read the comments in the other deal and it seems like what you said, they don't charge any admin fees but you gotta email them to cancel the hold on the trade in if you do want to use it again next time around.

          • +1

@Whatisthatvelvet: Don't they blacklist you if you don't send in your phone? Which would be a shame in case a really good trade in deal pops up in the future.

            • +1

@capslock: indeed that would suck if it means you can't shop from them again.

edit: that said, i don't really understand why they would blacklist you. they've charged what the item was worth onto credit card so they've been fairly compensated for it. not sure why they'd also blacklist.

              • +1

                @coldazure:

they've charged what the item was worth

but they miss out on gaining possession of the item which can then be sold?/recycled? for their profit

                • @battler: see my response to the other guy below. for the record i do agree that there's a high likelihood of a blacklisting regardless of the terms and conditions, but just playing devil's advocate.

              • @coldazure:

they've charged what the item was worth onto credit card so they've been fairly compensated for it. not sure why they'd also blacklist.

except they have provided a coupon for $300 off and lost the opportunity to make a profit. they definitely haven't been compensated for it, all they got was the device credit back. Could definitely understand getting blacklisted for this.

                • @gromit: so I skimmed the terms and conditions, and there isn't anything in there about "not being able to use your voucher in the event you haven't actually sent us the device".

so on paper, you are entitled to the voucher that was issued to you because you paid the equivalent for it with your credit card, and it is okay to use the voucher for any reason at all including for this type of promotion because it's not an exclusion. any loss of profits that they missed out on is their problem.

i could be wrong in my interpretation of the terms and conditions, and i suppose they could blacklist you for any reason regardless of terms and conditions. really i'm just trying to work out if you will get blacklisted by doing this so i can decide if i want to do it :P

                  • +1

@coldazure: you keep the $300 voucher, however they charge you for the credit for whatever the phone you declared was worth. So if you had a $100 phone to trade in you get a $400 voucher but they charge you $100 to your credit card

                    • @gromit: my understanding is in that scenario you get a $100 voucher, but you get an extra $300 as a bonus off the Pixel 8a when you add that voucher at checkout.

                      • @coldazure: maybe, not 100% sure as still trying to decide if I want to go ahead or not. Building a house so trying to decide if I can suffer keeping this Samsung s21 FE for another year or time to ditch it.

                        • @gromit: i also am assuming based on my interpretation of the advertisements. I figure that makes sense because the $300 bonus is applicable only for the Pixel 8a, not for just any trade in vouchers, so therefore it would apply only during a Pixel 8a checkout process.

Good luck with your house. I'm having my house done too and it's a bloody disaster.

                          • @coldazure: yeah so many horror stories about builds from people I know as well. I just sold my current house and have moved into a rental closer to build site so we can keep a close eye on progress.

                • @gromit: yes, i guess so

If our Returns Centre does not receive your device(s) within 20 days, we will charge the pre-authorised hold on your credit/debit card, for the trade-in value offered for your order.

they are only allowed to charge me $1 as it preauthorized $1 on my card

                • +1

@gromit: the problem is they send me the gift card of $1 and i can not open it (loading, loading and loading), tried several times , so i can not use the $1 trade in value when i purchase the phone, why should i return? their fault , please.

as previously discussed, they are only legally charge $1 pre authorisation value on my credit card for the trade not being returned.

they can not touch the $300 coupon code.

This is the credit card transaction rules, unless they like AFCA.

            • @capslock: I'm sure if you abuse the trade in bonuses and do it multiple times they might black list you.

          • @Whatisthatvelvet: correction a casio watch

  • +4

Have they sorted out the problems with in-screen fingerprint scanning? Was a problem with previous Pixel phones.

    • I assume its the same tech

      • Yeah, they're using optical recognition. Samsung uses the superior ultrasonic sensor.

    • What was the problem? It works fine for me but man I prefer the rear! (Upgraded from a pixel 5)

  • +2

I just want a phone with a microSD card slot to have these sorts of deals

    • There are a bunch of things I would really want out of a phone, and something like a Sony Xperia V or VI would be it, but in the end, I keep going back to a pixel, as I know I would miss specific features and updates, that to me are equally as important, that other phones don't have. Also, for me, when I cop a good trade in, in this instance $399 for the 8a + the $200 voucher, it's near impossible to justify paying so much more.

  • -3

Anyone know if jbhifi phones come with any bloatware?

    • +1

      No they are retail phones.

  • +2

    not any phone
any phone with a trade in $1 and listed on the website, jb says

  • +1

general trade-in question for people, because i'm in this position where i only have 1 old phone that can be traded in.

what do people do when trading in their old phone where all of your security authorisation prompts are being sent to, without having switched over to their new phones yet because it's on pre-order?

    • +1

I'd say find out (maybe via chat or in store) whether this offer will be live even after the phone releases in which case you can place your order after release. Then you'll have some time to transfer everything across before sending in your old phone.

If the deal is strictly for pre-order only, then maybe wait till the second last day to place your order and hopefully you can click and collect on release day which might give you a day or two where you still have both phones.

      • They'd ask you if you have heard of a thang call cloud

  • -2

    Google taking the piss

  • +1

I do have an old pixel 3. Seems like its not applicable for this offer 😭😭

    • +1

I am with you mate, it looks like I will keep the P3 for kids 😅

      • Pixel 3a xl 😬😬 same boat haha

        • I got a couple of old Google Nexus LG's… guess stuck with them.

          • -1

@su3050: Pretend its a pixel 4 (adding an IMEI is optional) and get charged a $1 for trade in value…..BOOM deal applicable again.

  • The Pixel 8a runs on a Google Tensor G3 CPU and 3GB of RAM.

    https://www.yahoo.com/tech/google-pixel-8a-first-look-160000…

    typing error?

  • +2

Pixel 5 is $1 trade-in value and IMEI is optional so just pretend you have one and use the $300 bonus voucher.

    • i am wondering what will happen if I don't ship the phone? will i get a penalty?

  • I was thinking of getting this deal, but I have the pixel 7Pro, it's probably a downgrade for me… :/

    • At the very most, only a marginal improvement, and you would lose a camera. You should wait and buy the pixel 10 in a year and a half. Google Pixel X pro with tensor 5 nano.

  • Thank you! Been waiting yonks a deal like this.
$500 for 8a Pixel Phone trade in with a iphone 8.
Plus $200 store voucher is a bargain in my books.

  • How do I know if I'm eligible for $300 bonus?

    • Yeah struggling to see where the bonus is listed - tried my Pixel 5a and no mention for $300 bonus in the sell order total.

EDIT: found in comments: scroll down on OP link and there is a bonus link for the $300

  • I have a pixel 6 and have been thinking of upgrading. This might be a clean trade. With all said it's $399 + gift card. Pixel 6 update cycle is ending, so might be a clean swap. I was thinking about waiting for the 9, but the cost will be significantly more. I don't game other than simple apps, so don't see the need for higher spec hardware.

My only gripes with google to this point is the lack of USB DAC support and the screen is kind of dark, especially outdoors. Seems this screen is a brighter upgrade, and DAC support I can workaround with USB audio pro app

    • Same boat, same considerations….also leaning to getting the 8a.

      • I pulled the trigger. Potential 7 years of updates got me there I think. Trade in for the pixel 6 was $150, and then the extra $300 bonus, made the phone $399, + $200 gift card.

        • Hopefully your 8a lasts that long.

    • +1

I'm coming from a Pixel 6a and it's a cash outlay for me of $454 + I get a gift card. I've decided it's not worth it. My 6a works just fine.

    • I'm also a pixel 6 user but still under contract with Optus. Assume I have to pay out the contract beforehand?

      • +2

In my experience no need to pay out the contract, just get the new handset and put the SIM card in (or eSIM it) and continue with the contract

  • +1

Can you only enter one coupon code at a time? $10 JB Perks wouldn't be stackable on top of this would it?

    • +3

      wont stack, i tried

  • wow

Pixel 8 and 8 Pro will get updates for at least 7 years from when the device first became available on the Google Store in the US

  • Going overseas takes another $80 or so off…

do you get an tax invoice for $849?

    • $549 as you paid $549

      • Damn

        • just went through the process. the Trade in value shows as gift card, but the bonus shows up as TELCO trade in and deducted the sell price

          • @rjams23: thx, I confirmed with JB as well

          • @rjams23: Would you mind sharing what was the process exactly? I went through the trade-in, got a $1 coupon for my old Iphone 6; when I'm applying it at the checkout, it only shows as $1, no sign of the $300 extra or the gift card. Contacted JB support but they said the $300 will be issued separately and I need to contact them to get it - doesn't sound right? Also, how would they know that I wanted to do the Pixel 8a deal?

            • +6

@albadam000: you would get 2 emails from square trade up. first is the trade in value as gift card, and second is the bonus offer as deduction coupon code. The bonus link is a bit weird and confusing. It said click here to redeem. You would then receive another email with the coupon code. use the gift card on payment, and coupon code in the respective coupon section.

            • @albadam000: Ok a bit later I received a separate email with coupon codes for the pixel 8a, 8pro and moto edge 50pro deals. Thanks!

  • If you go instore, do they require your trade in device to be handed in at the same time?

    • +2

The trade in process is seperate. It’s a third party.

  • Worthwhile from S23 to this? Would come at very cheap price with tradein

    • +4

      i think s23 is better

    • +1

      I would keep S23

  • +1

what a pain they could have just sole it for $649 but instead want you to spend $849 then buy something else for $200 usually more

    • +1

Yeah, funny that, what with them being a business and all

  • +4

For $350, doesn't this beat EVERY new Android phone out right now? I know it's not a real $350 price, it's more like $550 as the $200 is JB Hifi gift card but you could spend that $200 on something decent.

    • +4

jb gift card has no expiry date, you will definitely deal with them in the future of your life.

they also price match HN and G guys

  • How likely are these things going to be available for pickup next week? Looking at doing the trade-in, but you would need time to do the changeover from old to new and still fit in the 20 day return timeframe, or does the clock start ticking from pickup?

    • +2

For pre-launch item, it mentions extended return times apply otherwise their return centre must receive the device within 20 days on approved date. They emailed you Express Post con-note.

      • thats what says in my email:

You will need to prepare the following item(s) and send within the next 7 days*

If our Returns Centre does not receive your device(s) within 20 days, we will charge the pre-authorised hold on your credit/debit card, for the trade-in value offered for your order.

but only $1, i do not care.

      • Thanks rjams23 !! I did skim through the website and FAQ's but must have missed that!! I'll go back and check. Our old Motorola's are still worth $30, so with the bonus it makes this more palatable. Just need the household treasurer's approval tonight!

  • Will this be an upgrade from my Galaxy S23, if I change. Can any one give a comparison?
