$400 Bonus Coupon with Trade-in Towards a Google Pixel 8 Pro (128GB $849 with Trade-In Bonus) @ JB Hi-Fi

1280

Just picked one up after seeing there was an additional $400 bonus trade on top of trade value, on the already discounted P8Pro.

After considering the S24U and Z60U at double the price I just couldn't pass this up.

I traded an S21U in perfect condition ($250), bringing the total for my purchase to $605.99 shipped via fastest courier to rural QLD.

Yeah I could've got more privately, but living rural also makes that more difficult. $650 trade for my S21U seemed pretty good.

Hope this helps someone.

I love how apple fanboys are so proud of Apple's margins being high. Lol you realise that literally means you and the buyer is being ripped off right?

      • +32

As someone in supply chain for devices, I'll just say this - the components that go into Apple phones are likely just as cheap as the components that go into many of their competitors phones. Yet their fanboys rave about how much better quality is but they're literally using displays from Samsung, frames from Foxconn, cameras from LG/Sony, its own chipsets from TSMC and the memory chips from Samsung. There is more Samsung in an iPhone than a Google Pixel.

In short, the difference in price of an iPhone vs competitors is mainly due to Apple's higher margins. They operate with high volume and high margin (a dream for any company). This is also why they've abandoned their car project because after a decade of trying to make it work, they realised they wouldn't be able to sustain those margins in that industry.

So s#&t on competitors who sell for cheaper if you like, but not every business works on high margin and we shouldn't hate on those companies who are willing to sell at lower margin because imagine if they weren't here? Apple would probably be charging us $3500 for an iPhone 15 Pro Max

        • -4

$2199. Bought one for my sister last year

          • -2

@Dinhtran: Imagine spending $2000 on a phone. Clown.

          • @bio: This just isn't true. We've had many iPhones in our house and just as many issues as with other brands.

            • -3

@Brianqpr: Thank you for your anecdotal example. I have another one: We have 4 iPhones (oldest is 5s from 2012, still working) and 3 iPads (oldest is iPad 2 from the same era, it was still working when I last checked). In the meantime, my 2 year-old Pixel 5 just stopped turning on a few weeks ago (apparently it's a common issue).

Also note that I didn't mention failure rates. Using better components improves the quality, but doesn't guarantee a lower failure rate as any sophisticated device can only be as reliable as the weakest link. The battery will still deteriorate, or the screen will still crack when you drop it.

People love the word "apple fanboi" but the downvotes tell a different story (and I'm not even an Apple user).

              • @bio: My son's iPad air died after a few months, Apple refused to honour the warranty due to a tiny crack in the screen which was totally unrelated. Daughters MacBook Air, screen just went weird when it was less than a year old, fortunately that was covered

I've had cheap xiaomis that have had less issues than some of the iPhones we've had, from 6 to 15. Point is that Apple products have issues too and I've seen this regularly.

There is a perception that Apple products justify their price because they are that much more reliable. I have seen this in my experience.

                • -1

                  @Brianqpr:

Point is that Apple products have issues too

                  Agreed, never claimed otherwise.

                • +1

@Brianqpr: That last line should say haven't. Interesting to be negged for reporting my actual experience with Apple products.

I have more. Son's iPhone X just randomly stopped working. iPhone 6 stopped being able to connect to WiFi. Another MacBook Air (older model) the screen died.

This stuff can and does happen with any brand.

          • @bio: Do your research before speaking. If you "don't know" then go find the facts then speak.

        • +4

We'll done mate. This perfectly sums up apple products are a scam.

        • Just pick the right tool for the right job and be done with it.

I use apple devices as i make a living writing softwares on them, hardware reliability is unbeatable and really good ecosystem
/ software support. I don’t own every single one of their products to call my self a fanboy because it doesn’t make any economical sense and if any of their products doesn’t work as intended, i will either keep using my existing devices or wait for a better revision (remember the failed crap touchbar laptops with butterfly keys… yeah didn’t own any of that crap)

I also been using play-stations and recently a windows pc for rts gaming, and a pixel 7 i use for testing / development purposes. They all serve a different purpose and is a fit for that task.

Also, all the competitors are there to make money as well. No one is doing charity business 😜

          • +10

@dealsucker: HAHA so your argument here is basically that they do indeed outsource manufacturing for their components to those companies (which was my point) but that they do it at Apple's direction? Of course they do. That wasn't my argument. You've created some argument no one was making in trying to point out some huge difference between what I said and what you did. I never said they didn't manufacture those parts to Apple specs. The POINT IS they manufacture those parts and not Apple. In short, it was about the fact is that there are plenty of Samsung manufactured, TSMC manufactured or Sony manufactured parts in iPhones and other Apple devices and the average iPhone user doesn't know that.

Secondly, I'm sure out of the 2 of us, you're the one that does the deals for the components that go into devices right? You're just googling stuff and posting links like any buffoon can. Meanwhile I do the deals on behalf of companies that make devices, but sure carry on!

Lastly, I'm far more involved in manufacturing in tech than you and your Google searches are. You talk about 'not knowing the T in technology' but I am far more aware than you will ever be. Of course Apple's requirements are tough and precise. Its why the suicide rates amongst their factory workers are far higher than almost any other Fortune 500 company but keep fighting for your beloved Apple like your life depends on it.

          • @dealsucker: Also incorrect re the max brightness -

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra max brightness - 2600 nits

iPhone 15 Pro Max max brightness - 2000 nits

So 30% more in terms of max brightness for the S24 Ultra vs iPhone 15 Pro Max (Apple's best phone)

Both displays made by Samsung again for the record…

              • @dealsucker: Negged under the ocean because your argument is so stupid. Congrats mate. Uninformed drivel is what you do and probably the only thing you do well! Dumba$$

I can also bet even though you're 'done talking', you will reply to this because people as dumb as you also often have no discipline so you won't be able to resist your ego making you respond. Look forward to hearing back from you very soon :P

      • But the margins are SFA for local stores, let alone for most of these tech giants. Legal tax avoidance at its best

      • Just think Apple iPhones like hot girls shit personality and everything as ugly girls with great personality… in the end peoples always go for the hot ones… why?

    • +8

P8 is still overpriced, just apple is insanely overpriced

    • +4

Bloody hell, it's not 2012 anymore - if you want an iPhone, get an iPhone, if you want an Android, get an Android. Both are mature platforms, both have tradeoffs. I thought we were over this silly tribalism.

      • Tribalism is rare in brands, so it's interesting to see it play out. Anyway OP argument is an appeal to popularity, since just because something is popular does not make a good thing hell take Smoking, Drinking, and Donald Trump.

  • In store only? Can't see anything on the website

    • +1

Nope, online. Here's what I got:

      https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/google-pixel-8-pro-5g-128…

Scroll down past the Ask for a JB Deal, should be in the scrolling promotions area.

      • It's not there for the mint Pro but the $400 bonus says "any" Pixel 8 Pro so maybe it can be used on a mint 128GB too. Tempting to upgrade from my 8 256GB which is worth $500+400 bonus (I am fine with 128GB).

        • +1

Yep, you're right. Mint is the only one that the banner is missing for, but as you said, it says any Pixel 8 Pro only. I took a bunch of screenshots and videos before I ordered just in case the deal was too good to be true.

          Edited for clarification.

        • Traded in my 7a for a mint pro, can confirm it works

  • +2

    $1 JB credit, no thanks.

    • Speaking too early, a bit of complex process. You have to nominate the trade in first. After going through the process, then you will get an email confirmation. At the same time, you will also get an email to choose the phone you want to buy. Click the link then JB will send you an email for a discount code for the chosen phone.

  • Where were you thinking of getting the Z60U from?

    • +1

Mobileciti on eBay, with a $100 (generic or plus?) discount would've been $1,099. Global version, and only black in stock.

  • Got one of these for the wife in the last trade in deal.

She gave me her Note 10+, i prefer the Note TBH.

  • +2

Not a bad deal. Although, I feel like we've gotten close enough to the Pixel 9 release where I'd have trouble justifying the Pixel 8. The Pixel line-up seems to always have terrific deals before and around the release of the product.

    • +2

Looks like another 6 months. I believe the 8a is coming out soon, but it's not in the same category.

      LAUNCH
      Announced 2023, October 04
Status Available. Released 2023, October 12

    • Launch/pre release is the only time to buy a pixel for sure, my p7 was a bargain after the rebate and selling off the bundled products

  • +1

Sorry if dumb question, but where on the site do i read about trading in? With what phones can i trade in for a discount?

    • There are a number of options, including tablets. Mainly the usual Samsung and Apple. But there is also an option for Android phones which you have to try yourself.

    • This is exactly what I am thinking. I heard about the "trade-in" before but was so confused. What if I buy a low level new phone right away with $199 and use it directly for trade-in? Will it work? Or if a Nokia 3210 will work as well?

  • +1

Can anyone comment on Pixel 8 Pro Battery life in real world use? Anything not to like on this phone coming from a Samsung S9 plus.

    • +6

Battery is well below flagship expectations:
      https://m.gsmarena.com/google_pixel_8_pro-12545.php

Still scores very, very well in their reviews though, so worth a read.

Site has a comparison tool you can use too:

      https://m.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=12545&idPhone2=…

    • +2

I had a Pixel 7 Pro and battery was definitely mediocre. I find the Pixel 8 Pro to be MUCH better and in terms of real world usage vs battery tests, its actually very comparable to what I get from my other phone (an iPhone).

Its an awesome phone. You won't regret getting one!

      • +1

Same boat, so this is good to hear. My P7P just did not last, and with the glacial charging, ended up being a little frustrating.

        • Im so frustrated by the charging speed of the pixels have the 7Pro and unless the 9Pro comes out with faster charging, ill see what else is out there! Hopefully Optus have the break contract "deal" again "S

          • @XCelR8: Yeah unfortunately Google and Samsung both behind the times here. Plenty of Chinese competitors, for years now even, with great battery life and great charging.

    • +1

I bought it a month ago, battery on pixel 8 pro last for a day with highest screen brightness, half day if you play games. A very good phone, highly recommended!!!

    • +2

No problems here. Finish most days above 50%

My previous few phones were Redmi notes / poco. P8P seems about the same.

Upgraded mostly for the camera. It is excellent. Have barely used my proper camera since.

  • -2

So glad I dodged that phone in the end.

  • +2

FYI my Pixel 7 is showing a trade-in value of $300, so $700 total towards the Pixel 8 Pro, so I'd be about $550 out of pocket to buy it. Doesn't seem worth it to me.

    • +1

Yeh I have the S23 256gb and I will be $349 or something out of pocket for the 128gb 8 Pro. Not sure if it's worth it but my phone works perfectly well. I will pass.

    • Yeah its not. The Pixel 8 Pro improves on the Pixel 7 Pro in a few key areas (display, battery, camera etc), but not big enough improvements to bother when you might be able to get a similar deal when the Pixel 9 Pro launches in 6 months since typically the pre-order offers tend to be better than what you get after anyway

    • Especially when you factor in the fact the modem is still bad on P8P (mediocre reception and major battery drain) the thing still runs hot, the fingerprint sensor is still the crappy type, the unit doesn't do miracast due to obstinance.

      Yeah nah.

  • +1

I picked up mine on Sunday, after trade-in my wife's iPhone 12 256GB and scored $330, together with the $400 bonus I ended up paying $519 for the Pixel 8 Pro 128GB.

In the past years, I have been spoiled by Samsung (used S22+, S21+, Note 10, Note 9), before that was all HTC (m7, m8, m9, m10 and u11, I think they heavily influenced Pixel since Google bought HTC Smartphone branch back in 2018?)

I reckon Samsung's build quality, picture, speed and UI are still better than Pixel's, this round due to S24+ remaining much more expensive ($450 headset price difference and $100 less trade-in, a total of $550), I decided to give Pixel a try and hopefully few months down the track I will not regret changing over.

  • +1

Can I go in the shop tomorrow and give my phone to get this offfer?

    • Reading the FAQ, I believe you can use the coupons in store but the device trade still has to be done online/postal.

    • No, you have to do the trade in in your own time. if you want to pick up in store then do it before to get your vouchers.

  • what if I trade in a perfect pixel 7 pro? do I get more money?

    • +2

Register a $1 phone and don't send it in. Avail the bonus coupon and sell your P7P on FB marketplace for better value.

      • +1

What do you mean by "register a $1 phone"?

        • Instead of trading a valuable phone like the Pixel 7 Pro and getting ripped off, just use some crappy old phone that they only deem to be worth $1 (but this still qualifies for the bonus)

    • +1

I was thinking this as well but it would be still $479 gap if I’d trade in my Picel 7 Pro 256GB. For couple of hundred I might be tempted but this is just too much.

  • Anyone else get annoying camera shutter lag in the P8P?

  • +3

    Offered $350 for a pixel 7 pro

Better off selling it via mobile monster who will give $470

Register a $1 phone and don't send it in.. makes the pixel 8 pro $379.. not too bad

Shame they don't have the same deal for the regular pixel 8, I'd prefer that

    • I would recommend you to go for P8P as regular P8 has very mediocre battery life and its even smaller than last year P7. Unless of course you are after a smaller phone. Otherwise P8P is also very comfortable to use.

    • If you send it $1 will be charged from your credit card?

    • What do you mean by "register a $1 phone"?

      • Trade a device which has an dollar value on the trade in website

        • are you still able to use the "$1 trade in" giftcard if you don't trade the phone?

    • +1

I have just traded an item for $1. If I don't send it in and have breached the contract, they will just charge back the $1 and I got to use the $400 promotion code?

      • +1

Thats correct. They will only charge $1 to your card and you get to keep the bonus $400 trade in promotion.

      • What phone?

      • Did you do this? I'm planning to buy it as well and getting better value for my phone elsewhere

  • Can you still use JB gift card for this deal?

    • yes. but i remember they only accept 1 GC per transaction online. I did purchase my previous P7 in store by various GC.

      • I have used multiple GC online in past. So I guess you should be fine.

  • Tempting, was hoping the s23+ would drop to sub $1k. Missus got the P8P a month ago, great for photos.

  • Is it worth upgrading from P6P? P8P will cost me $650 after the $200 trade in value and $400 discount

    • +1

Have a read of the gsmarena review, and compare the devices.

      https://m.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=12545&idPhone2=…

If you like your P6P, you're very much likely to enjoy the 8 - it seems like it's an (two generation) upgrade on every aspect.

Whether it's worth the money depends on your tech appetite 🤷

  • -2

Does the receipt come up with a $1249 purchase? Can get $350 for my 7pro bringing the the 8 pro down to $500. If the receipt says $1249 then putting through the business save 10% gst then the depreciation value would probably bring it down close to a free upgrade?

Also the true ozbargain coming out would they price match office works so I save an extra $12

    • +1

When I got my Pixel 7 via trade-in, the receipt comes through as the discounted price you paid (after credit + whatever pre-existing discounts where on the phone) and not the real value of the phone. They didn't factor in the trade in value for my phone though (so $399 was the total invoiced amount).

This was 2023 (I just checked the receipt on my email)

    • +1

$855.99 on my receipt. So it has only taken into account the $400 bonus, not my actual device trade of $250.

    • +1

Why do so many businesses try these stunts.

You want a receipt that says a higher dollar figure than you paid to then claim on, that's fraud.

  • Is there something special we should be doing to get the $400 voucher?

I went through the trade-in process and only received the voucher for the trade-in amount, not the $400 off voucher.

    • +2

You should get about four emails. First two will have your code or be a promotional email from them, then a return slip, then another will have the $400 bonus code.

      • You're spot on, thank you 👍

    • +2

Email from SquareTrade "JB hi-fi trade in coupon specials "

You have to click the pixel 8 pro deal in the email , it then sends you the coupon

  • Got a P8P in the last trade in deal while making around $100 profit after selling my P7P and then the trade in got cancelled (which I wasn't expecting) and I was never charged for it.

  • To all the uneducated Apple fanboys out there who said Apple products are superior or using superior components, do your research first then speak. Just because you think or feel doesn't mean it's true.

Who made the phones that you had to hold in certain way to avoid blocking the phone antenna?

Who made the phones that bend with a minimal pressure applied? Bloody hell did they even do durability test before releasing?

Who made the charger cables that always break at the connector ends?

  • Good price for goood phone

  • -1

Incase if anyone has the coupon code and is not planning to use it can you please share it with me. It would be a great help. Thank you.
