$200 NetGear R6300 AC Router, $288 NetGear D6300 AC Modem-Router Free Shipping- Price Drop

720
acrouter2

Dropped price to compete with other deal. Our price is now $5 cheaper after taking into account shipping to Sydney, if this is not the case for any other location let us know and we will sort it out.

Someone beat us to the punch on the deal we had planned to post tonight…

http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/84400

So we had to come up with something else. These two routers have been in our top selling items every week for the last month or so, so we figured we would see if we could sweeten the deal a little with an extra $50 off for OZB.

You enter the code after the initial Paypal screen. "acrouter2"

The link to the D6300 is here:
http://flingshot.com.au/products/netgear-d6300-100aus-modem-…

As you know we love to play guessing games, so we are going to play another one with this deal. You need to guess which router will sell the most, the modem-router or the router. Now one is more expensive so we will give it a little handicap. Every Router is worth 1 points every modem is worth 1.5 point. We will select a winner from the correct guesses and will award them a $25 voucher which can be used towards anything on the site.

UPDATE: Winner of the comp is wtfnodeal, PM us for your code

Speaking of games, it has taken a little longer than expected but we are getting very close to running out of 3 of the colours here: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/83804 there is still time to get a guess in! We have lifted the limit so you can buy as many as you want now.

      everyone has a modem

I've never owned a modem unless you want to count internal PCI dial-up modems. I went straight from dial-up to ADSL modem-router.

  • I believe Router only will win…

  • Ronnie thinks the router will win! even Ronnie needs the net to buy his protein.

  • If I have an existing Modem Router (netgear dgnd3700), can I just buy the router and hook it up to my existing Netgear dgnd3700 and take advantage of the improved speed?

Also, if all I have now is N devices, will I get any improvements from this device? (e.g. speed, coverage?)

    • +3

You can use your existing modem as a modem only and let the r6300 act as the router yes. In terms of speed improvement, the processor is faster but I don;t think you will see a massive improvement over the dgnd3700 until you upgrade your devices to AC.

      • I like your honesty, could have said it would make a big improvement and gotten another sale :)

        • You can always lie to get one sale, and "improvement" is such a subjective thing that you would technically get away with it. But the customer will always feel like their purchase was made under false pretenses so why would they ever buy from you again?

      • Thanks for your reply. Can you please tell me how I can make my DGND3700 act as a modem only?

I borrowed a R6300 from a friend last night to try but after pluging the supplied LAN cable from the DGND3700 to the R6300, it wouldn't recognise the input and even if I connect my laptop to the R6300, I cannot get onto the router admin page.

Is there some settings I need to adjust on my DGND6300 for this to work?

        • This will be interesting but I will see if I can troubleshoot it for you, I have had cable for a long time so I haven't used a modem-router for a while. It sounds like an ip allocation conflict or that you are on the wrong subnet.

You will need to disable NAT and or DHCP on the DGND3700, this will mean that you will no longer have an ip address automatically assigned. The best bet is to manually assign an address to the DGND3700 on the lan side and THEN change your own address to match. Then you will need to set the ip on the r6300 to the same subnet as the dgnd. This will probably require you changing your network interface back to automatically assign so that you can get an ip from the d6300. Once you can get to the web panel of the d6300 change it's wan address to 10.0.0.2 assuming you used 10.0.0.1 for the dgnd. should be easy to remember. Now you should get an ip address allocated automatically by the r6300 in the 10.0.0.100+ range. You should also be able to see both web panels by typing heir respective addresses in.

Hopefully that works, if not there are a few other things you can do, but that is the basic setup.

  • Modem Router SELLS THE MOST. weeeeee~

havent tried any high end networking modem router/router like these before due to the price which i couldnt afford as a student. just wondering if they really do make a significant difference?

Question: So on the topic of the actual routers… does wireless AC offer a significant real world performance boost over wireless N?

Answer: Yes slightly even if your devices don't support the standard due to better hardware used in this router.

But until you get an AC USB adaptor you won't be able to take full advantage, or until your device has native support.

(by flingshot himself in an earlier post) :) I think it answers your question. If you already had a Wireless N Dual Band 600Mbps which you can get for about $150. There should be an even bigger increase in performance over 300Mbps but I'm only guessing.

Here are the main advantages of a high end router as far as I see it:

Better cpu = handles multiple devices and multiple connections better (torrents etc)
Better modem = higher end chips mean higher output and usually dual band support
Better firmware = not always the case, but often higher end routers are better supported by the manufacturer.
Better switch = gigabit plus faster cpu means better lan transfer speeds. (Not important for everyone)

      • Do you know the cpu speed on the processor?

I guess it's quite similar to their previous model. 400Mhz Dual Core.

        • +1

The BCM4706 integrates a powerful 600 MHz MIPS32 74K superscalar CPU with gigabit MAC and supports high-speed I/O interfaces including DDR2 and PCIe.

  • Got the Modem Router. Good price, will replace my bigpond "premium" model. Could have just get OW to price match but I'm willing to see how good your service is, after all I could one of your long term buyer.

  • The modem router will sell most. Anyway I just bought both… Just hope it is delivered in this week :)

  • I vote for the modem router too. Wow. Didn't realize we have a new 802.11ac spec until I saw this deal!

  • I'll be different and vote that the points will end up equal lol.

    • +3

If that happens I will send you a free router!

  • I predict that the modem-router will sell more

  • router will win

  • NetGear R6300 AC Router will win.
