So I'm putting some vinyl covers on my vinyl seats?

  • +3

Would be steering well clear based on these reviews.
Average 3.4 rating on a site absolutely littered with fake and incentivised reviews is bad. Like, REALLY bad.

Love the euphemism, vegan leather, full blown oxymoron.

    • +19

      it's a blatant lie.

these covers are not made from the skin of vegans.

Otherwise seats would be telling you they're vegan?

As an asian, I grew up with parents that always bought seat covers from Kmart to put on top of any new or old car we had. It was only until after like 20 years did my parents snap out of it and realise that keeping the seats in pristine condition for the next potential owner probably doesn't net you more than a few hundred bucks in value, so what's the point of buying a car and not enjoying the original seat itself anyways.

    • That’s exactly right. You’re just keeping it pristine for the next owner while not able to enjoy it for yourself. Poor mindset.

      • Unless you got kids going through the messy baby phase

Yes unless. Though I would buy car with leather seats if I had young children. Easier to clean and maintain. And it looks great!

          • @itstuan: I always prefer leather, it doesn't absorb and hide dust/mess

            • @Commodore64: Yes mate. Leather is the way to go. White stained fabric seats always put me off.

    • That is not limited to Asians, I can assure you. My parents had what amounted to thicker doilies on the back seats

My parents have a cloth rag on top of their floor mats so the mats don't get dirty ** facepalm **. It's also unsafe cos the rag could bunch up and inhibit the brake pedal… but they won't listen to me.

    • Yes there are some reasons you wouldn't use seat covers but they can and do perform many functions - esp cloth seat covers on plastic seats.
      - They protect and reduce wear and tear (scratches and cuts) on the original seat.
      - They protect from sun damage/discolouration and reduce the gases released (offgassing).
      - They improve comfort - warmer than plastic in cold weather and cooler in summer.
      - They are often washable and replaceable - a real boon for people who don't routinely (at least weekly) clean their seats thoroughly, which is probably 90+% of the driving public.

I don't get plastic seat covers, but whatever floats your boat.

They are great if you wanna enjoy the cheap plastic smell for longer 🥰

I wanted to neg, but not sure if allowed.

If a product is truly poor, and can damage a fellow ozbargainer's property, are we allow to neg the deal to warn? Granted I haven't used the product myself, but the reviews do speak for themselves.

Wonder how something like this would affect the airbags?

    • Definitely - unless they're airbag approved

  • +1

it's only vegan leather if it comes from the vegan region.
    otherwise it's just sparkling polyurethane

  • Wouldn't it reduce seat heating and seat ventilation

  • $1500 for white seats on tesla website.

I read this post about buying fake leather seat covers for fake leather seats.

I immediately felt the urge to vomit into a cup, heat it for 30 seconds in the microwave, drink the cup contents, vomit back into the same cup, and repeat the process for the next 4 hours. Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.

Buy a fancy car, then put a cheap seat cover on it.
It’s like wearing fancy clothes to a party, but cover yourself with cheap perfume. Something is wrong.
