probably the best price/performance device ever on ozb. crazy efficient and fast chip in this phone

    • +5

Have this phone and so does the much better half. Concur with MTA appraisal. Rock solid with VoLTE and VoWiFi on Telstra (usually pickiest mobile network). Using global version of the Rom (not EU version) and works well with banking apps and Android Auto. Can't fault it

      • How's the camera?

On the lookout for a new phone for wife and camera is her main feature. I know can sideload the GCam as did this on my old Poco F3.

        Looking to spend under $500

        • +3
        • Maybe not - Poco F3 was a Snapdragon chipset. GCam only runs on SD or Tensor chips.

I think there's modded versions for MTK but I'm not familiar with them. I'd have to have a look at what's available.

        • camera probably bad, would be a downgrade from flagship samsung or apple models

      • How do you find it with charging? I've heard this phone can be a bit glitchy with whether it charges at the full 67w? And it's needs a Xiaomi cable specifically? with their proprietary 'charging standard'?
Have you tried charging it with any random cable lying around yet?

        Any glitches with making/receiving calls/texts?

        • +2

Don't have this phone but another POCO that takes 67w and it works fine with other cables and stuff but will only take the maximum draw that it can from those cables / bricks

      • I confirm this. I have this phone (12/512gb version) can't can't fault it. Camera is pretty good too. Charging no problems with any 100w cable.

    • Hows the battery on this on dual sim standby (if you are using dual sims in case)?

      • +1

Unfortunately not using dual sim, just single.

I did notice when it was hunting for a network due to our location it was using a bit more than expected but the 8300 ultra CPU is a beast.

Only gripe would be would have liked 240fps super Mo. My Motorola Edge 30 could do this.

      • +1

dont think it affects too much. lasts a day well with moderate usage on dual sim and 1.5 with not much use

      • +1

no eSim according to GsmArena, could be deal breaker for some.

  • +4

Nice phone for the price… similar performance to the Snapdragon Gen 1 plus SOC. I think this one is slightly faster in single core.

  • I have ordered Note 13 pro+ 12GB/256GB for $403

    • Link

    • +1

For a Redmi Note 13 Pro +? Global version? 5G? Link?

I'm considering the standard Pro 5G version here at the $440 mark.

      • +1

Whats the advantages over this phone? I havent used MIUI for a long time. Isnt it more bloaty than POCO UI?

        • +3

The new HyperOS is an advantage over the MIUI. Poco has better performance. Although I prefer the headphone jack in the Redmi and the camera.

          • @OldBugger: and the 120w charging

            • +1

@donman92: I was referring to the Redmi Pro, but yeah, the Plus has 120w (and others such as IP68 and MT chipset)

          • @OldBugger: On my F5 I feel MIUI was better. With HyperOS some apps load slower and some chugging when multitasking.

      • Had a look and might be this, where it comes out to about 259.94 USD using the same USD method. There is one more slightly cheaper listing out there though by a bit. Global Rom it says.

        • Thank you sorry I tried to post the link and it was unpublished. Yes, this is the right link, I have ordered with this seller.

        • +3

Be careful buying these as they are usually not the global version and rather the Chinese models with the global software and you will not get OTA updates without flashing them yourself and you may also have network issues.

    • Surprised JB hasn't had a deal yet on the Note 13 phones, still expensive when compared to AliExpress prices but then you'll also get 2yr Australian warranty.

    • Link!

  • You may or may not have to toggle the VoLTE, VoWiFi, VoNR toggles manually once for use on Voda now and on Telstra+Optus later this year.

At worst, should be a bunch of dial codes.

    • +2

Dial codes and then manual flip worked for Boost (full Telstra network, not gimped) from day one (early Feb)

    • Pardon?

      • +3

The dial codes for Xiaomi allow you to disable the carrier check for VoLTE - once you disable the carrier check, you can activate VoLTE via the individual SIM card.

  • +4

X3 still going strong from launch!

    • X3 Pro? Do you happen to be on Optus and have VOLTE working?

I have a family member using an X3 Pro, would be great if they could keep using it after the 3G shutdown

      • +2

This worked for me to get VoLTE working on my PCOC X3 Pro on Kogan/Vodafone network

        https://www.reddit.com/r/Xiaomi/comments/t1kjh0/solution_to_…

      • Yup X3 Pro. Unfortunately on Vodafone.
Looks like @nige0090 has a link below that may help.
        Fingers crossed.

        • I had to call vodaphone to get it enabled on my service, after that no probs

    • +1

Same. X3 Pro still working awesome! Can rely on this brand.

@S Baldrick I have Amaysim at the momen, which uses Optus I guess. I can see VoLTE symbol at the top - not sure what it means or how to use it. :)

    • +1

My X3 pro switched off itself and not able to turn on. Still thinking if I should get a the new Poco.

    • +1

My X3 Pro hasn't been updated since April '22. It couldn't even get the last OTA update. It's started to reboot randomly too.

      • They claimed they'd do updates through to March 2024 but my last Security Update was Feb 2022, 3 months after purchase….

It seems they drop support for their phones as soon as they stop selling that model…

        • Strange as the last update I found online was May 2023

          • @CHUNITHM Luminous: How are you getting updates? when I Check for updates through "About Phone" I get nothing.

            • @FLICKIT: I managed to get updates by changing my phone region to the Philippines. There are a couple of Reddit threads about this, not sure why they're not available here, but it worked so go figure

              • +1

                @locomofo:

I managed to get updates by changing my phone region to the Philippines.

                Didn't work for me :(

                • @CVonC: I tried also, and a bunch of other regions, no luck..

                • @CVonC: Poland worked for some updates, I got MIUI 14.0.1, security update 2023-01-01….

So a slightly newer security update, it's still no where near the claimed March 2024 service life…

                  • @FLICKIT: I tried Philippines, Singapore and HK and they all didn't work. Just tried Poland then after your suggestion and still no go for me :(

                    • +1

@CVonC: That sucks… Odd it works for some and not others… (I purchased mine from Amazon UK in Nov 2021, Global version)…

The lack of updates sucks, and it's crazy they make it so hard to get the old occasional updates, it really shouldn't be this hard…

(With how many X3 Pros have died they probably figure it's not worth offering support or updates for them, lol)

            • @FLICKIT: I don't have an X3 Pro but I did check online and there were update packages. You can try this guide from Xiaomi though I wouldn't keep using the stock ROM as it is nearly a year out of date at this point and there's plenty of custom ROMs available for this phone such as LineageOS

              • +1

@CHUNITHM Luminous: Thanks for that.. .

To be honest I have no interest in all that stuffing around just to get security updates that should come easily…

Lesson learned I guess, don't buy a Poco unless you're keen to stuff around with custom roms and such…

              • +1

@CHUNITHM Luminous: Are there issues when using custom ROMs with things like banking apps refusing to run?

I'm also a happy X3 Pro user. It's still a great phone 2.5 years later, considering it was only ~AUD$270 delivered.

    • My X3 bricked. Otherwise a beast of a phone.

    • Same, I want to upgrade but hate my. I'll stick with my x3 till it dies

    • I'm about ready to upgrade my x3.

I got the 128gb storage and I've used 126gb… I did get a memory card but I can't get it to use the card memory without manually intervening (I'm a certified numpty though).

I'm on the Optus network with it, what's all this volte discussion? I thought the carrier was going to contact anyone who's phone was an issue?

  • Hold out for Poco F6?…

    • +2

It's most likely going to be a rebadged Redmi Turbo 3 and cost a whole lot more

      • No 3.5mm jack….
        noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. G'damn it!

  • +1

    https://www.amazon.com.au/Smartphone-MediaTek-Dimensity-Char…

There is also a 12GB RAM/512GB storage available on Amazon for $592. Maybe easier to deal with Amazon for warranty/returns than Aliexpress.

    • +1

Plus delivery. Makes it a whole 200+$ more if you dont need that much storage.

  • Does anyone know how long will it take to deliver? If it is a week or so, this can work for me. Thanks

    • +2

About 2 weeks would be my guess.

  • -1

$436.98 if you want to pay by Paypal.

    No thanks.

    • +5

I am only paying by Paypal.
One time a delivery never came; the tracking number on Cainiao was stuck for 1.5 months. I contacted them for a refund, and they said I had to contact the Australian Post to get proof of them not delivering the item. Contact Australia Post, they said the tracking number is invalid. I told AliExpress that, and they closed the case in favor of the seller because I couldn't provide proof that Australia Post did not deliver the item.

I opened a PayPal dispute and got my refund in a week.
I would have lost $400 if I paid by card, or at least it would be a lot of hassle getting it back.
It's Australia Post's fault. I have ordered 30+ phones from AliExpress and only one didn't arrived, lost by ozzie post.

    • +5

Change your Paypal settings to charge you in USD (rather than pay them fees to convert to AUD), and put it on a fee-free card.

      • alright, i will try that. thanks

        • +1

Your bank card will almost always have a better exchange rate than aliexpress or paypal.

  • I'm currently looking for a new phone and deciding between this and the Nothing Phone 2a. The Poco seems like it has better specs, but the Nothing seems pretty close in what I would use + local warranty.

    Anyone have advice?

  • Thinking of getting the 12gb variant for switch emulation. Is this a good idea or nay?

I would have already jumped on this if the pro version had a headphone port, I never thought I'd accept a phone without one until this showed up. For FWIW the regular x6 (non pro) has one.

    • +3

DEAD OR ALIVE Xtreme 3 Scarlet

      • Thanks but the phone is a 12/16gb ram variant, and I've heard 12gb is recommended, so I thought I'd ask.

        • +1

The ram won't affect the performance with these Dimensity chips. Stick with the 8GB. Honestly, if you want it for Switch emulation, wait until the Poco F6 or whatever the new Redmi variant is called that has the 8S Gen 3 chip to be released.

      • Sf 30th works perfect for me on poco x3 pro yuzu emu

    • +1

LurkMoar - a USB to headphone port will cost you not much if that's an issue (understanding its a pain)

    • headphone port, I never thought I'd accept a phone without one until this showed up

I feel the same about external memory cards.

Might just need to get a tiny OTG usb key….

  • Am I being dumb? I can't get it for anything near the price in the title. $486 is the best I can get (after tax is included)

    • +1

Have you applied the code? (OUTDOOR30)

      • Make sure it says OUTDOOR30. No spaces or brackets.

        • I try, but the box is red and has the words "Max discounts & coupon codes auto-applied"

It auto applied a USD21 deduction that I cannot remove then adds USD30 as tax, to a total of USD300…. aarrrghhhh

  • +1

How to handle warranty if the phone failed within a year?

    • +1

I have returned Redmis via aliexpress previously. It is a painful and drawn out experience but it can be done.

      • Do you have any tips on how to ahem 'force' a full and successful return.

        • +1

The seller always tries to rip you off for sure.. For me they denied issues, then offered partial refunds, there was significant back and forth but just sticking to your guns worked for me eventually.. like i said painful and drawn out but.. possible to get your rightful full refund.

    • +1

      Good luck,

  • No esim according to gsmarena? Is this a problem at this point?

    Does it have wireless charging?

    • +1

      No, no

    • +2

I almost bought this but lack of esim made me choose not to.

Esim is so convenient for overseas travel that I don't think I could go for a phone without it now

      • Maybe wait for another G54 deal?

Running HyperOS (what ever that is) - Dual sim ,but no e-sim, no data sharing and backup calling with VoWifi using 2nd sim data, like you can do with Samsung's, Pixels and iphones, $418AUS (incl GST) is a good price, dont forget the rules, buy in USD, use a card with no international fees and uses visa/mastercard rate and dont let Paypal do any conversion.

    • Thx for the mini review. So, I wouldnt be able to mobile hotspot with the 2nd sim slot?

      • Yes you can hotspot ok, no probs hotspotting from 2nd SIM.

        • Thx, i did end up getting it :)

Not sure what you mean by no data sharing on 2nd sim tho. How does it work the samsungs/pixels?

  • Is the phone ready out of the box? Like no need to flash the rom or something.
