I've had this in my cart for weeks. I'm torn between this and paying a little extra for a 3060. Upvoted (and updooted)

    • +1

IMO laptops are really subjective in terms of usefulness. This is perfect for me due to only wanting to do some light gaming and editing. For stuff like Overwatch 2 and Halo Infinite, it's great.

    • -5

imo the 3060 isn't substantially faster than the 780M to really change any experience outside of benchmarks. Not enough VRAM for AI, either.

      • +4

Respectfully mate, even a low powered laptop 3060 is leaps and bounds quicker than a 780M. Not saying the 780M is bad at all, but they aren't in the same league.

If you're going to do anything other than pixel gaming, the 3060 is worth paying a bit extra for.

        • I've been playing ffxiv on high on a 680M with no problems.

There's a lot of games that the 780M would handle without breaking a sweat until we hit modern AAAs - then you'd just drop it to medium.

        • -1

Respectfully mate, you're overestimating the 3060 and underestimating the 780M. You'll be playing 1080p Medium-ish for most games either way. I don't even know from which benchmark/review you got the impression that 780M is stuck at pixel gaming, you'd really have to dig deep from 4+ generations ago for that to truly be the ceiling. Userbenchmark?

Also, for this near 3K screen, I can see many scenarios where 6GB VRAM would be crippling if you wanted to drive it at native resolution for whatever reason.

@xrailgun: I'm loving how respectful all of us are being, despite our violent usernames.

          • @xrailgun: 1080p gaming on a 1800 x 2880 native resolution screen?
            no no no

          • -1

@xrailgun: Sorry.. you really have no idea what you are on about. 780M is integrated graphics and while it is leaps and bounds over all other integrated graphics, it still is only the equivalent of maybe a 1050 GTX in performance.
            https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-780M-vs-Nvi…
            https://technical.city/en/video/GeForce-GTX-1050-mobile-vs-G…

I have a GPD Win 2 Max with the 680M (780M is basically slightly faster rebadge) and to effectively run the later AAA games, you NEED to turn on all the AMD tricks like FSR 1/2/3 to run them 30-60fps in 720p. A RTX 3060 Mobile - even with MaxQ will run at 1080p without really needing the compressions and tricks to get it working.

              @bchliu:

              1. There it is, userbenchmark.
              2. You were comparing the ancient GTX 780M to the 1050! not the AMD Radeon 780M!
              3. If you think 780M is a simple rebadge of the 680M, you really shouldn't be offering advice. 680M is RDNA2, 780M is RDNA3.
              4. Respectfully.
      • +1

Like I said, the 780M isn't bad at all. It gives very good frames per watt, which might be important to some people, given we're talking about laptops.

But in my opinion, if you're going to be playing games that actually make use of a GPU, it is worth "paying a little extra" for a dedicated 3060 - which was what Bolt Thrower was wondering. You'll at least double your FPS in most scenarios, if not triple them, at the expense of more power usage.

Posting from one right now. It runs Baldur's Gate 3 fine on low settings. No idea how that translates to other games, but I'm now quite happy with it.

  • Anybody have any experience with the tax etc on import?

    • good question. I am also curious about buying items over $1000 from Aliexpress.

for items under $1000, tax is added automatically. for items over, it is not. So I am curious about the process/procedures involved

      • in the majority of cases, value is under-reported by 30-50%. not a guarantee, and also no idea how this seller does things.

      • tax is added automatically

Curious if they're even forwarding any or all of that onto the ATO lol. Same with the other chinese sites that auto-add GST like Taobao etc.

    • +4

Buy lots over 1k up to 20k, it really is hit n miss. On this price total be $213.90 gst n duty. If you have to pay youll get n email n link to pay from customs, after paid released for delivery

    • I bought the 16 inch verison (and 2023 one) of this laptop from AliExpress

The seller put the value down at half what I paid, did not pay import tax

    • My seller (Lenovo AE-Mall Store) underreported the value after asking me. So if you just send the seller a msesage they'll usually be happy to oblige.

What is the use case for spending so much money on AliExpress? No concern for product issues that might arise?

    • +10

If it's a "choice" product, then it's kinda like Amazon prime. Pretty easy return process. They give u free return lable

      • How do you determine if it's a 'choice' product? Did a quick search for the word on the ad, no results. Am I missing something?

    • Where else to get the Xiaoxin branding? Not available in brick & mortars here AFAIK.

      • ideapad pro is the global equivalent

  • Your reddit post says "Sorry, this post was removed by Reddit’s filters."

May stack with this deal for even further discount.

I checked for you. OUTDOOR50 or AED369 to get it for US$845.99 (~A$1309.18). Too bad it's not eligible for AliExpress Business 3% cashback and CR 4.5% :(

    • Not buying, just came to upvote this. It's a great deal.

Was wondering why it was kinda thick, and kinda heavy. Well it's because it has a beefy cooler and a big battery. That's good, but a bit wasted without a dGPU like an RTX-4060. If it had that for a bit more money, it would be better. But I cannot judge for other aspects like: build quality, repairability, and usability of the keyboard, touchpad, speakers, microphone, webcam, and display. Spec sheets never tell the full story.

Also this new-gen processor is still in the same league as the old 6800u. So I think if you find an older laptop that's equal or better, you might be able to get it at a much better price, or overall value. Yet my first comment still stands. This is a decent deal for the Chinese, it's intended market. So for us, it is a great deal, OzBargain Recommended.

    780m with 32gb 6400mhz is good

  • What about the warranties? Can I buy something like 3 year onsite through e.g Lenovo Australia?

    • No grey import

    • +1

local options for OLED and 32GB ram with this generation of SoCs would easily cost double :(

  • So is Xiaoxin = Yoga the actual name difference?

    • +2

No. Yoga is yoga, even in China. 小新Xiaoxin = Ideapad

      • Thanks for the clarification

    • +1

      As per OPs reddit post it's a Lenovo IdeaPad Pro 5 14 Gen 9 2024 8845H (Xiaoxin Pro 14 2024 AMD)

  • Need a deal on the 16”

    Just DON'T buy from WORLDFONE.
I ordered the same laptop during the last sale and waited over ten days without it being shipped. I decided to cancel the order and get my money back, which then took another 10 days to get approved. Now, more than a month has passed, and I still haven't received my refund payment. Also their support often doesn't respond to messages

    • Sorry to hear that was your experience. I ordered a laptop in the last deal and waited about 6 days for despatch. It only took about a week after I they advised the DHL tracking number.

    • Is it possible that custom configurations take longer? 32gb RAM and/or 2TB SSD.

      • +1

That's what I was told and missed that little detail - 1TB is standard, 2TB is custom so needed more time

(also I stacked a few discounts together and got a really good deal, to the point they messaged me apologising and saying they can't do my config for that price - in the end I agreed with them to skip the 2TB upgrade and I don't pay any extra)

      • Nah, I ordered the standard conf - 32gb & 1TB

  • How would this Laptop go with editing 5K videos(gopro footage)?
If this isnt any good what would be suitable?

  • Damnit. Brought this for AU$1634 over a month ago. Good find

I didn't buy from WORLDPHONE - note their estimated delivnery time is mid-June - so very very very slow.

Seller explicitly asked me what they wanted me to value the laptop at - so I said $950 to be under the $1000 GST limit. Didn't have to pay any extra tax.

  • Any similar laptop with a 4060/4070? The ones I found are way too expensive for coming from Aliexpress

  • +1

84Whr battery is amazing on this! Not many other options I've found with that size battery for this price.

  • my name is Xiaoxin, so I think I need to buy one. Is this touchscreen?

  • -2

    Free Shipping
    Expected shipping time: 65 days
From China to Sydney via Seller's Shipping Method
    Tracking Unavailable

A$1300 laptop 2-month shipment without tracking is too risky for me.

    • +3

Understandable. It may just be an omission on the listing as mine (and others reportedly) were sent via DHL with tracking.

      • +1

Yep. "Seller's shipping method" without tracking is correct, as AliExpress is unable to determine the estimated tracking time if the shipping method isn't specified.

  • I bought this a few weeks ago.

Came via DHL to StarTrack.. had tracking and just as well as it sort of got lost!

Manage to find it at the post office just before it got RTS.
