  • which is more reliable in asia; Jet star or tiger? wanting to go sin>hkg return and both are similar prices…

    • Jetstar. I wouldn't trust tiger. Also tiger departs from budget terminal in Singapore whilst Jetstar departs from the normal terminal (terminal 1 if I'm not mistaken)

      • +1

No entirely true, Tiger USED to depart/arrive from the budget terminal, it now does so from Terminal 1, as I've heard they've shut down the budget terminal for now and will be turning it into Terminal 4 or something…

      • +1

At Singapore, the respective budget airline n its departure terminal:
        Jetstar - t1
        Tiger - t2

        • -1

hmm i think i am going to go with jetstar, pricematching tiger in the morning so it atleast gives me another option should things go pear shaped.

          Although T2 looks marginally better

    • Also checkout AirAsia, you will have to book 2 legs, an example Click Me

    • +1

I'd go Tiger. I have had no problems with Tiger but I have had a horrible experience with Jetstar.

    • +1

Go tiger, jetstar will probably delay ur flight for 8 hours and then cancel.

  • Tried booking ADEL-MELB for Saturday 18th. No luck. Very limited sale. /sigh

  • Mel - Adl includes a school holiday period, at least for schools that have a long w/e for easter and then go on to have holiday straddling apr-may.

  • Anyone know how you book these? When I select 2 adults it says it is charging me 2 full adult fares even though a Go 2-For-1 fare is selected. Do you just book for one person and automatically get the other one?

    • Me too.

      • +2

the price updates on the next page after accepting the conditions of carriage

  • -4

Jetstar will price match these and discount by a further 10% as long as you can provide them a link over the phone

    • Nah I rang them, they won't. Due to one ticket being $x but the other one being $0. They cannot beat $0 by 10%.

    • Why are you price matching with JetScum? When Tiger were grounded my regular route went up significantly.

All pricematching will do is put Tiger out of business which allows JetScum to rise their prices.

      slaps forehead

      • I pricematch with Jetstar because I've had extremely bad experiences with Tiger (i.e. having my flight cancelled without being notified and given no alternative)

  • When is the 2 for 1 price calculated?

    • Yeh Im not sure either.

Is it only on specific dates or something??

      • yep. you have to check the dates on the sale page.

  • +2

Melbourne to Perth return for $270 for 2 people is incredibly tempting. Notwithstanding Tiger Airways….

  • -1

None for Perth to Singapore as far as I can see, that really sucks.

  • Prices are calculated on left hand side of page after selecting flights. i could get 6 people return Melb to Brisbane for 509.00

I have flown with Tiger a fair few times. i recommend you buy your luggage while you buy your ticket and make sure you follow there rules about check in times. never had a problem. planes are newest in Australia and now majority owned by virgin.

  • WARNING: In my personal experience, Tiger Airways is highly unreliable. I won't go into the details, but lets just say that there are many potential downsides to flying with them. Hopefully nothing will go wrong, but be prepared of nasty surprises like checking fees (if not done online in advance), cancellations, delays, and poor customer service.

    • +1

Airways is a good customer education show. Every time a customer turns up 5 minutes late and endlessly fumes at the customer service staff the voice over reminds passengers they have to be there 45 minutes before. No ifs, no buts. Madness ensues if the whole flight is canceled.

I would hate to be the customer service officer who has to inform passengers they missed their flight, but oh, there's another seat available 2 days after their important conference.

      • I loved the ep where the dude was 5mins late & they booted him; then it turned out he had been waiting in line for ~45mins or so earlier whilst the Tiger halfwits struggled to get their act together & started check-in late! :o

        • I have only caught one Tiger flight. It was very cheap ($40 between Adelaide and Melbourne? Cheapest transport on the planet). I was so worried about missing the 45 minute cut off (being too far back in line) that I arrived 90 minutes early. For a 6am flight. This was before the days of online check in and I vowed never to use Tiger again for such an early flight.

The other amazing thing for me about Airways and the furious customers shown is that people book with a budget airline to attend conferences and weddings happening on the same day!. Pure madness. It's like people expect to fly no matter what, even if a storm moves in and the airport at either end is closed.

        • You actually still have to do that with Tiger as they no longer have online check in. It was disabled after they were grounded and never returned.

    • WARNING: I have flown Tiger on about 20 occasions without any problem whatsoever. Just pack within the limits, turn up at the airport on time and follow the rules. It's pathetic to blame the airline when you don't follow the rules. All airlines have delays so nothing much you can do about that (although I have never been delayed on Tiger).

      • I have never flown on Tiger; most likely never will. However, on at least a dozen occasions when I've been tasked with picking up family, friends or colleagues who've made the Tiger mistake from the airport, I've had to turn around & go home with waiting times of up to a day before they could get a replacement flight; often from another airline at additional cost (as others have noted). They followed the rules, they were on time, no luggage issues whatsoever; but Tiger screwed them…and vicariously, me!

We're not stupid, we know that all airlines have their moments. It's not the delays or cancellations per se either; it's the incompetent manner in which they've handled them that irks people. You're lucky to have had no issues, good for you; but don't go trivialising the experiences of others because you've been lucky! :s

      • You are one of the lucky ones. I hope you don't encounter a bad situation with Tiger like many others.

  • If flying Tiger I recommend to add travel insurance and allow a couple extra days.

My $80 return ticket wound up costing $600ish when I had to buy an alternative at short notice. They cancelled my Sunday PM flight with about 1 hour notice and offered me another on Wednesday(I think). From memory it took about 2 hours to get them on the phone too.

    Never again!

    • The problem with Tiger is their fleet is always stretched to capacity. Practically all available planes are always in use. Weather delay? Pilots sick? Traffic delay? Maintenance issues? The effects ripple through the system. Part of the reason why Tiger is so cheap is they don't keep a spare aircraft on hand at major airports to use in emergencies.

  • -4

    Tiger. "Never again".

    • More information, please.

      • I bought tiger cheap tickets for the whole family once. the travel date were 6 months into the future. We have booked hotel, cars and everything, and then, Tiger cancelled the flight just 1 week before departure date.
but the flight wasn't cancelled for the other passenager. it was just an excuse to get rid of customers with cheap tickets!

        • Really? That's awful. I've never flown with them myself, so I was genuinely curious.

      • They are totally unreliable.
They have no online check in, so you have to queue for an hour to check in.
They are a shambles, there staff seem over-worked, and in some cases rude.

I could go on and on, but I've wasted enough breath on them already.

  • +1

bought perth-melbourne return for just $180 per person.

  • Where did the $39.95 SYD-OOL flights go during the sale period?

  • Good to see more flight options available

  • +1

Definition of OzBargain success: receiving a BargainMate notification for your own submitted deal.

  • Did anyone else have any trouble with completing their purchase. I make my selection, etc. hit on comfirm and waited and waited. No confirmation?

  • Why not Melbourne?!? LAME,!
