Some people might complain about the OLED option not being specced but the OLED basically halves the battery life so I actually prefer the IPS screen for my Z13.

Can the ram be increased to 32gb? I want to be able to open 2 chrome tabs at a time

    • No it's soldered

    • +3

I’m pretty sure 16gb can open 2 chrome tabs at the same time esp with that processor.

  • this is not 4k

  • +4

To me it's an odd laptop
GPU not really powerful for gaming, and the rest of the specs a bit hohum.

Only 16gb ram (not upgradable), 512gb SSD, low res screen, those for business use would prefer other models

    • Yeah a bit meh for business but also this is a deal website not just a website for those looking for a business laptop. As I said Gpu is capable of light gaming but nothing more then minecraft or Roblox.

"this is a deal website not just a website"
Im a little confused to why this "deal" was posted as its just not.
Price is way blown out for the specs

Ps having a "was $1000000 now slashed to $1500" doesnt make it a deal, thats just called falling for shit marketing

    • Yeah and still asking $1649, and that 62% off tag so ridiculous!

  • +7

Paying a lot for that thinkpad branding here, 1.5 gen old cpu and a lowest end last gen cpu - you would be nearly matching its performance with the 780M, albeit the 680m in the 6850H is still behind by a bit (but then the dGPU enabled will significantly reduce battery life). There is also nothing to be liked about the 1200P 60hz panel - no better ppi over 1080p as screen is 16:10 so pixel isnt denser here.

    • -4

Yeah but the think pad and Lenovo branding equals reliable warranty, sturdy build quality, good quality hinges ahem MSI and the power to last nearly 10 years like mine did.

      • Unfortunately not really in 2024, Lenovo's build quality on other lines have been gradually decreasing year over year.
T-series and X-series are still okay, but the movement towards slimmer designs and attempts to dumb down have resulted in current Lenovo laptops being considered quite undesirable.
Keyboard and screen replacements have been getting more difficult compared to older generations, with more glue packed in. I miss the days you could unscrew the
screws at the bottom and slide the keyboard out to replace. The only thing still nice is that a lot of components can be purchased off aliexpress if you do not care about ease of repairability.
Lenovo's vantage software also has a history of pushing optional bios updates as "CRITICAL" updates, and have bricked many laptops the past 2-3 years. The frequency of these updates would increase the likelihood of bricking these laptops for a tech illiterate consumer.

It is an OK price for a premium laptop. You pay more for the premium build for sure.
But there was 10% and 13% cashback for Lenovo a few days back, not sure if those will be back anytime soon.
By the way, these have been around this price for a longgggg time already.

True. Would have been good with cash back dang. My first deal so it’s a start. Also thx for not ripping into me like the other guy

  • Would anyone be able to ballpark what a PC (case only) would cost to match something like this gaming / performance wise?

    • +3

https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/833607 Even a 800$ techfast would blow this out of the water.

6500M is slightly faster than a 1650ti laptop and behind that of a 3050M laptop. You could do with a desktop 1060 and that would still perform bout the same. CPU wise can do with a zen2 3700x and would match or even beat the zen3+ chip here in all workloads - mobile APUs have cut down, 16mb of L3 cache and does much worse in games then their 'full fledged' counterpart.

So yeah its not really a comparison to be had here, not when this isnt a gaming lappy and have the thinkpad premium built into it.

      • Thanks heaps for the response, appreciate it!

Terrible value for such an old laptop.

The "Was $4369" is crazy deceptive nonsense that doesn't even deserve a mention

    • -2

Won’t let me share it if I don’t put it. Doesn’t register as a price apparently

Just purchased a Legion Slim 5 16" Gen 8 with specs that blow this one out of the water for $10 less than this deal. Got lucky at the Lenovo Outlet. So this isn't really that awesome of a deal.

    • -3

Yes but u need a power lifter to carry any legion.

    • Do you have a link please?

      • It was a one off deal that somehow magically appeared in the Outlet at the same time as I was looking. Here's the link to where it was:

        https://www.lenovo.com/au/outlet/en/

If you are lucky enough to find one, grab at ASAP as I think they come back in single batches. There is an option to receive an additional 10% off from the website if you sign up for their emails and then click through the link that they send you, which I did, but what they don't tell you is that the item has to be saved in your cart for the 10% discount to be applied. So unfortunately I missed that discount, but that was largely due to my grabbing it in a hurry as I didn't want to miss out at that price. Still think it's a good deal.
