If that was so important to you, I doubt it will make a difference to your purchasing decision

Actually, I bought the M1 years ago and tried several 3rd party clipboard apps but they were all so clunky that I had to sell it.

        • +1

And your back here carrying on, just accept that they probably never will.

          • @BatmanAU: Apple will probably launch it after 10 years and act like it's innovative 😝

Seriously though, I actually do like a lot about Macs, I just can't see how anyone who does a lot of data entry can go from Windows to macOS.

            • -2

@besttechadvisor: Haha so true, flagship addition 😂.

Yeah I would never go from Windows to Mac for data entry if it was a lot of data.

No offence, but this sounds like a PEBKAC issue. Try Maccy - it's a great clipboard manager and, in my opinion, even better than the built-in functionality on Windows.

          • @fastnet: Agreed, CopyLess has been my daily for years now, and it's great.

$2.9k and no native window snapping hotkey.

      • App = Rectangle

        • -1

And what is the hotkey for that?

Edit: I see you are talking about the app "Rectangle". I know there is non-native ways of doing it. That is what I used to do when I had a mac.

        • We shouldn't have to rely on a bunch of awkward 3rd party apps to provide simple OS functionality…

… which are often paid and potentially insecure.

          • +1

@besttechadvisor: Buys a car, OMG no Apple car play. Raises his fist to the sky, turns to a forum, we shouldn’t have to rely on a third party app for Apple car play.

Don’t like how Apple doesn’t have certain functions, go to Windows, problem solved.

            • -2

@BatmanAU: With few exceptions, if you bought a new $80k car in 2025 you'd expect it to have Apple Carplay.

I know macOS doesn't have clipboard, but looking at the Apple forums, it's evident a lot of people don't when moving to macOS.

It's more like buying a new car in 2025 and it doesn't have an immobiliser. It's such a simple and well-used feature that it's expected.

              • @besttechadvisor: A $85k Tesla doesn’t have Apple CarPlay, but I wouldn’t buy a Tesla for ACP

                • -1

@BatmanAU: Tesla comes with an Apple CarPlay equivalent. macOS doesn't come with an equivalent to Android + Window's clipboard history.

                  • @besttechadvisor: Technically they are just third party rubbish apps, especially its messaging app.

        • Didnt they add native support for that in 15.2 or 15.3?

      • +1

Window snapping is built in now.

    • +1

      CopyClip - problem solved.

I personally use Alfred as my clipboard history and it's great (text, images, snippets)

      • Same, it works great.

Wondering if this is a better price than the education price?

    • Yes, Costco is $50 cheaper than my uni edu store

      • That is probably USA Apple website.
Au pricing for this exact model is $3099

    • Essential $199.01 difference. With Edu store you get AirPods.

    • The Edu Price is $2,949.

      So if I summarise:

      Apple RRP: $3,099
      Apple Edu Price: $2,949
      Costco: $2,899
Officeworks with 5% Price Beat: $2,754 (11.2% off the RRP)

Cashrewards also offer 3% back on Officeworks Gift Cards (capped at $1,000 per day). 3% on $2,754 is $82 back. Net discount off the RRP is 14%.

I would buy a 4Xchipped VAG car for this price.

So many Windows Fanboys/Apple haters coming out of the woodwork 😂

All I’ll say is that all of my Apple products have lasted min 7 years. Imma stay with Apple 😊

    • -1

If you're referring to my comment, I actually like Macs and my old MBP also lasted 7 years before I sold it when I bought an M1. I also have my criticisms of Windows/Microsoft. It's just silly how Apple expects to be able to give its users the bare minimum and charge ridiculous prices for it.

If Apple don't want to have these features in-built or enabled by default for whatever reason, sure. But they should at least offer them as free and seamless plug-ins, so that we don't have to turn to third parties that aren't as trustworthy, often charge for these basic features, and are always more clunky.

      • Well that's a silly comment to make considering Apple gives you Pages, Keynote, Numbers for free and Windows charges you for Word, Powerpoint, Excel.

It's almost as if these companies have different business models and make money in different ways.

  • Cashrewards/Shopback cash back offers on education store (which everyone can access) plus the free airpods earlier in the month are a better deal than this imo.

Even now Topcashback's 2% is a better deal?

    https://www.apple.com/au-edu/shop/buy-mac/macbook-pro/14-inc…

    EDU pricing = $2,949
Cashback @ 2% of the GST free price = $53.61
    = $2,895 delivered plus a free Airpods 4

For reference Cashrewards and Shopback had 7-8% earlier in the month. However your mileage may vary on whether the transaction actually tracks or not (for me it did).

    • No longer a student, wonder if 'everyone can access' means Apple just never bothered to check the eligibility throughout the entire process?

      • Correct, they don't check
