I think it's up to each provider but usually if it's a prepaid you can just no longer make calls or use data if you let the prepaid period run out without recharging. I think you can usually still receive calls and texts. According to the Konec FAQs if you don't recharge within 210 days of your prepaid period finishing your sim will be deactivated and the number associated with it will be lost but they do send reminders.
