Jetstar long haul are actually pretty good, tvs, leather seats ect

      • -2

leather seats won’t feel comfy (will be cold?)

        • Just wear long pants - I rather cold and clean (because it can be wiped) than fluffy and dusty.

        • +1

I've flown Jetstar long haul. Leather seats are shit. The whole seat is shit as well as the entire experience of queing, cancellations, terminal staff communications etc. They are just Shitstar. And it wasn't cheap either (like this deal). However it was the only direct flight I could get so that was my compromise.

          • @yellowfever: As budget airlines go there are a lot lot worse. Air Asia you get nothing no tv not even water.

    • Well, for this price, I won’t complain too much, just take me to Korea:)

  • +1

    Return?

    • +17

      Free if you swim

      • +2

Free if you commit a crime worthy of deportation. Also comes with free accommodation and meals. This is the way.

        • Nah the quickest one is to someone while you are on australian airspace. The plane will return asap lol

        • +3

The government charges you for the deportation flight.

    • +1

Price appears to be one way. Although I do see some return days in the $260s

      • The cheapest return I saw is $560.

        • +1

Yep, 294+266=$560, couple dates available at that price.

    • -2

If you're black and can run fast,
then free return back to AU.

    • your life must be fun

  • Why is Sydney always have better price than Melbourne!

    • +8

      Sydney number 1

      • +1

Sydney is on a different level

    • +1

As far as I'm aware, the only airline doing direct flights between Melbourne and Seoul is Asiana, which probably explains the high prices.

After years of having to transit through Sydney or Melbourne from Adelaide when going overseas, and now living in Melbourne, I hate having to transit domestically when travelling overseas!

    • +2

      Maybe cause it's closer

    • realestate

    • More population -> more competitions?

    • Bigger airport + shorter route

    • Regional Airports are a bit cheaper … they always punish you when you live in a city!

    • more people live in sydney…..isnt this obvious?

  • +1

i recently flew Bris<—>Seoul with Jetstar.
    it was fine.

there are return tickets in June for $510

      • +7

he says "Hi" to your mum

  • +5

Just came back from Seoul flying Jetstar both ways. Totally smooth experience, would do it again.

Return from Brisbane was $2100 for our family of 5 (with checked baggage for 3). Unbelievable.

Seoul is a great place to visit, too.

    • +1

currently return flight for $510 in May and June. feeling tempted to go again (when it's warmer as well)

  • +2

PTSD from this JS route.. 10hrs delay for both return flights. End up paying more for non refundable cancellation, change of plans etc..
To add salt to the wound, had to deal with the rudest call centre people

  • +3

You can get a one way flight with Xiamen Air for $350 on a 787 with a stopover in China and they put you up for free in a really nice hotel. Free baggage too. I flew with them a few months ago and they were awesome

  • +3

I'd rather not go than fly Jetstar 🤮

One Way from $181 @ Jetstar

      That would be right

      You'll probably be stranded there…

      • +11

Jetstar had a better on time performance rate than QF and VA this month - check it out using the ABS link that you were given by Beatthatflight
Im a bit sick and (profanity) tired of individuals like yourself, even after being told a few days ago of facts - that you just sweep away and continue your bullshit rhetoric.

Because without Jetstar, your airfares from Melbourne to Sydney would be in excess of $500 in Economy one way

I have had near zero issues with JQ apart from the odd 10-20 minute delay but thats common in the industry

        • -6

Jetstar had a better on time performance rate than QF and VA this month

          Statistical anomaly…

They are the worst airline I've travelled with in the last 5 years.

          • +1

@jv: Out of the past 6 months, 3 times this has occurred. You would be surprised, but although Jetstar is a low cost carrier - their facilities, operations department and other aspects is still top notch

            • -2

              @AircraftFreight:

Out of the past 6 months, 3 times this has occurred.

Last year, occurred to me 3 times for the same trip.

              • @jv: Then why after all of these trips, why have you continued to fly Jetstar?

                • -1

@AircraftFreight: I haven't. Last trip we flew Virgin and had no issues.

                  • +2

@jv: Good for you, last time I flew Virgin they cancelled the flight after a 5 hour delay, the cancellation was at 11:15PM. No accommodation provided, flew Jetstar back at 1pm the next day and had 0 issues

                    • -1

                      @AircraftFreight:

last time I flew Virgin they cancelled the flight after a 5 hour delay

3 times though ??? (and then a 17 hour delay)

                      • @jv: Then why after the first time did you not fly Jetstar anymore? Why did it take you 3 times to change your mind

                        • @AircraftFreight:

Why did it take you 3 times to change your mind

Because i had paid for the ticket and they rescheduled the flight.

Ended up losing almost 2 days of my holiday.

                          • @jv: So they overnighted your ticket 3 times, can I know the route that this occurred on

                            • -1

                              @AircraftFreight:

So they overnighted your ticket 3 times

Hadn't left home the first time, got sms at 4am.
Second time, didn't find out until we got to the airport. They scheduled a flight for next morning, so we stayed at the airport hotel (at our expense) and then they cancelled again.

                              • @jv: What route was this?

                                  • @jv: Domesic is a bit vague, but JQs SOPs is to rebook passengers on alternative services and then Qantas services if there is no JQ availability on the same day

                              • @jv:

                                airport hotel (at our expense)

                                Don't it cover travel insurance?

                                • @a1234my:

                                  Don't it cover travel insurance?

No, most travel insurance do not cover airline cancellations when you are still in your home city before departure.

                                  Read the fine print.

Couldn't have happened to a nicer person

It did. It impacted all the passengers.

    • Did this a few weeks back, cheap one way fare with half empty plane

    • +3

Is it from $181 or from $294?

      • +3

@Tacooo: Good old Clickbait trick I suppose , offer $181 but its actually $294 😂😂

        • +1

isn't that against OzB ethics? why not OP or mods correct it?

      • +1

        I see $181 for 24, 26, 27, 28 and 29 April (and other dates).

    • Recently got a flight from Singapore to Melbourne 30,200 Qantas Points + $99 ($88 SGD) on Emirates. Valid for most of April.

      • This will really only work from SIN to MEL as the fuel tax out of Australia means thats its $350 AUD for the taxes on the onward journey in Y.

    • +8

What's with all the hate on Jetstar?
I fly Jetstar often and have had no issues with them. Recently flew to Bali on their 787 which was a very good experience overall.

      • +2

People over here regard private jets and first-class seats as bare minimum

      • I agree, I never had problems flying with Jetstar.

      • +3

        Reminds me of this website

        https://thingsboganslike.com/2009/12/17/50-discount-airlines…

In all seriousness, the seats are less comfortable, and in the event of cancellations / delays, they generally aren’t as helpful as full service airlines.
It’s great they provide competition, but also there is a real difference in quality and service between even Qantas (which is now pretty shit) and Jetstar. You get what you pay for.

        • Tbh I think they are better than Virgin if the flight is cancelled. If a Jetstar flight is cancelled, you have the option to be allocated to a Qantas flight. Don't have that option with Virgin.

      • Maybe just bad luck for us, we flew Jetstar to Kuala Lumpur transiting via Singapore in Jan. Both flights were delayed due to different reasons, the one from Singapore to KL was delayed by about 3 hours all in all. The self check in was a joke, didn't work for us because it wasn't just a single direct flight for us, so we had to line up again to see and get checked in by someone.

Will probably avoid Jetstar as much as I can.

    • -5

Yeah nah. Thanks OP, but I don't want to visit a police state.

      • +1

        Wahh wahh I won't visit a city because I can't litter 😂

        • That's not really the main problem, but does prove that it's a police state.

    • Jetstar cancelled my return flight from Singapore to Melbourne. But emirates was there in the list of alternative options provided to me. So one way it was good, Jetstar cancelled my flight. Also, Jetstar refunded $200 for accommodation, $35 for food n $50 for taxi.

      • Jetstar cancelled my flight from Sydney to Hawaii. My hotel charged me for 1 night for no-show as they required 24 hours cancellation notice. My flight was cancelled while we waited at the departure terminal gate. I could not provide sufficient cancellation notice to my hotel.

Jetstar refused to refund for my accommodation and transport to and from the airport as per their T&C.

How did you get them to refund you?

        • +1

Could be different from your situation. On cancellation they may offer reimbursement of accommodation costs - e.g. staff may advise customers of a cancelled flight to go get a hotel and then return the paid invoice through a link they provide to ticket holders. You get all the details via text.

        • +1

Jetstar sent out an email 6 hours before the departure n mentioned in the email about the maximum claimable amount. Just contacted the chat support after returning back home. Uploaded all the receipts n the claim amount was deposited after 10 days to my bank account.
But finding a hotel for $200 per night Singapore was very tough, since Taylor Swift concert was scheduled the next day. So ended up crossing the border n stayed in Malaysia. Claimed the taxi charges from Malaysia to Singapore.

          https://pasteboard.co/SQSfiltW3HDi.jpg

    • I did a return trip to Singapore with Jetstar late last year, no issues whatsoever either way. Hope it will be the same for anyone taking up this deal because it worked out really well for me.

  • +2

Thanks OP. Booked it from Brisbane for winter school holidays. All up $1541 for 2 adults and 1 child with 1 item of 20kg baggage.

  • What plane? A350 or A320?

    • 787

    • All Jetstar Australia International flights operating to the United States, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Singapore and Vietnam are operated by 787-8 Dreamliner's.

Bali Denpasar can receive a daily 787 service from an Australian port, usually Melbourne but the schedule switches to Sydney in June

  • My partner refuses to fly jet star lol

    • +1

      Good to know.

    • +2

One more seat for the rest of us!

      • maybe i just book separate flights

        • Might be even cheaper if you just ditch the partner…

  • looking for a sale from October to November to Thailand, would they gonon sale eofy?

  • Singapore have become so expensive. Used to go every year, now I would rather go Japan. Crap aud and inflation over there makes Australia look third world.

  • Thanks OP
