    Ring Spotlight Cam

Edit: NVM I thought it was something else

  • I love mine. I purchased it with the solar panel, 100% recommend.

  • The only drawback is you have to subscribe to a plan, no local storage is available

Yep. For this reason, I will NEVER buy Ring.

Like buying a phone then paying Apple a monthly sub just to use the phone. What a rip off! If we allow this to continue, then everyone will start doing it. Best way is to boycott and vote with our wallets. Imo, Ring shouldn't even be allowed on ozbargain. SMH.

      • Why are you paying Apple a monthly subscription to use the phone? Sounds like you've been scammed.

I don't have Apple mate, never will.

It was an analogy. Like paying BMW for heated seats or navigation on the HUD.

They don't give me an option for local storage. It's either cough up the $150 or nada.

You have to pay someone for a mobile service to use your Apple phone, so isn't it just the same pay for service concept?

Ring is very easy to setup, and $150 a year for as many devices as you want seems ok to me for never having to worry about local storage and controllers etc.

I have had traditional cams / NVR before but have been let down with NVR failure, unable to retrieve footage when you need it etc.

    Just my 2c

    ¯_(ツ)_/¯

      Different things.

      See my BMW example above.

I see your perspective though. But when I can have local storage and be in charge of my own stuff, why should I pay someone else?
      No thanks.

  • Yeah, i dont mind the $150 a year. I have 3 devices connected.

Two of which are these things with a solar panel. Works flawlessly.

My only gripe with Ring is we dont get access to the neighborhood feature that you get in the US.

Don’t forget with the $150 dollars a year gives you extended warranty on the device as long as you stay on the plan. I had my replaced without fuss after 4 years of daily outdoor abuse. Great value imo.
