I had a PD but was no longer happy with it so shopped around. Here are my thoughts on the PD (Aluminium), Ulanzi (Zero Y) and Heipi from a previous post of mine:

    PD (Aluminium) Pros

    • Most compact
    • Best lever locks on tripod legs of the three
    • Tripod hook and phone mount is nice
    • PD warranty is one of the best in any industry and proven track record

    PD (Aluminium) Cons

    • Ball head is extremely limited for vertical shooting
    • Universal tripod adapter available but replacing ball head greatly impacts portability and weight
    • Tripod tools mounted on leg not 100% secure

    Ulanzi Pros (zero y)

    • Fully featured ball head
    • Lightest tripod

    Ulanzi Cons (zero y)

    • No security pin or mechanism on ballhead to secure camera if screw lock is not 100% tight on ARCA mounted plate, camera will slide straight out (probably not a problem for the f38 head version but that is a proprietary plate)
    • Screw lock and levers on ball head/centre column do not provide any clear feedback when fully engaged and do not inspire confidence
    • Universal tripod centre column uses non-standard threading

    Heipi Pros

    • Fully featured ball head with nice controls
    • 2 tripods in one
    • Most convenient mobile mount by far

    Heipi Cons

    • Lever locks on leg feel a bit awkward, especially the bottom locks where the legs are thinner
    • Tripod hook sucks
    • No mount for tool

Ulanzi was a no go for me because I never trusted it to securely hold my camera. There's also another long term review which shares similar concerns at 3:09 https://youtu.be/kKUI_YO4l04?si=rBv6G97pdNxtnl4w. I would personally recommend the Heipi if you wanted a PD like tripod.

  • I own this , extremely good tripod.

No issues holding up my a7iii with a 24-105 lens

  • is this arca swiss mount?

  • I bought one of these after messing around buying a bunch of cheaper tripods. Just buy this and never think about tripods again.

Very sturdy even with everything fully extended, the middle column is thin but fully magnesium and quite sturdy.

Best weight to steadiness on the market.

Edit: got it for 325 in an amazon flash sale.

  • I'll throw another into the mix which I recently purchased for an upcoming overseas trip to be my new super lightweight and compact travel tripod (it only recently came out)

    The LeoFoto Mr.Y LY-265CF

    • It's also 5 section like the others
    • 1.25kg (so slightly lighter than the Heipi and PD but slightly heavier than the Ulanzi)
    • Similar compactness packed down as the others (inbetween Ulanzi and Heipi)
    • It's slightly taller when fully extended (with centre column down or up)
    • One thing that I really like is the built in pano plate at the top (i.e. you level the ball head/camera and the pano plate at the very top rotates level) - the Ulanzi has this too but the Heipi does not
    • I also like the larger wider lock/unlock ring for the ballhead mechanism - which is much less fiddly

I have a couple other LeoFoto (Ranger series) tripods (and ballheads) that I've had for many years which I've been very happy with

The place I went to to test it out before buying also sells the Ulanzi and Heipi so I was able to try them all out side by side. He did not recommend the Ulanzi because he was starting to get some returns from some failures (something to do with the head from memory)

  • I also have purchased the Zero F but from AliExpress under the Coman brand for a lot cheaper…seems like the same thing. My only complaint so far is if using the smallest leg extension it makes the tripod a bit unsteady.

Not as sturdy as a Gitzo Series 1 tripod but I do like the smaller circumference of this Zero F and it’s more stable than a super old Velbon travel tripod I have.

  • Thanks for sharing💕💕There will be many product promotions recently😃😃😃

    • any further discounts for ozbargain? :)

      • Due to geographical restrictions, I can't post on this site, so I can't post the discount here in time to let you know🥺🥺

        • Will it be cheaper on amazon prime day??

          • @gembel: It's possible that the price of the Zero F38 will be a little lower, but the Zero Y won't be.

    • Can you also match this discount for the F38?

      • You can look forward to Amazon Prime Day~~

  • No proper invoice (so can't claim GST) just FYI
