And where exactly is the bargain here?

    • +3

You’re getting an Intel that can generate enough heat during winter?

  • +3

OMG…. selling second hand computer in Ozbargain….
as a bargainer, we are smart enough to avoid this fake "deal"….

  • +1

Only 12 in stock… get in quick or probably avoid.

  • +1

    Outdated model

Unless you're really hard up for money or want an intel mac (software compatibility), then just skip forward and buy a M1/M2/M3 macbook. They are massively faster than these old intel boat anchors. (Source: I upgraded from a 2020 intel macbook pro to a M1 macbook pro - like night and day).

And MacOS support for these will end in the next release or maybe the one after.

    • +1

Fully, fully, agree, but we are talking an $800 difference.

      • +4

Even the M1 Air would be a better deal.

      • +1

Yeh, that's why I qualified it.

There is definitely a market for old equipment - the difference between a slow, cheap laptop, or no laptop when you've got other financial burdens can be a game changer.

      • +2

I'd take my chances with an M1 refurb, should be closer to this price.

Going to be faster even with less ram .. 16gb versions are rare sadly.

How is performance running Windows with the M-series?

      • +1

Intel Mac can run bootcamp (dual boot Windows / Mac OS) so you get native Windows. It's one of the reasons I bought an Intel Macbook Pro years ago. Able to just bring 1 laptop for Mac + Windows.

M series through parallel can be faster though, except some apps (i.e. games) won't run. Think of it as your PC can emulate a lot of older consoles faster than those consoles (NES, SNES, etc…) and even upscale. So, M series' CPU raw power advantage does help (though how well vs 12th/13th/14th gen Intel is unclear).

    • LOL, you call them boat anchors I call them heaters.

      • Tell me about it. Doing a compile on my old intel macbook sitting on my laptop used to fry my spuds.

    what?

  • Prime machines to possible be affected by flexgate

    What is a Flexgate?
"Flexgate" is a term used to describe display backlight problems that result from a damaged display flex cable. It is a known issue that affects some models of MacBook Pro. It is caused by a design flaw in the display ribbon cable, which can fail prematurely due to repeated opening and closing of the laptop's lid.

    • I thought "flexgate" was a show of how much Apple can flex by engineering impossible to economically repair machines with defective design issues, while simultaneously limiting the usable life by criminally under speccing basic RAM and storage for generations, and charging massively exorbitant amounts for upgrades that would cost them change from a pineapple, while giving the customer the spiky end.

      • +1

i thought flexgate was something to do with their phones being flexible that you could bend them.

Can’t believe no-one has mentioned the keyboard issues pre-16” MacBook Pro.

    • butterfly switchs ?

  • Put this model into apple trade-in service, you’ll see how much they offer you for this device :)

  • Is this really a deal? If not maybe mods can delete this?

  • +1

    NOT
    A
    BARGAIN!

    • I can't believe I'm saying this, but IVI did it better.

  • https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/256370531988 probably a better option. If you actually need MacOS then just buy a used M1 or something and absolutely not this post lmao

    • That's actaully not that good of a deal. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/835701
This one is far better. More recent CPU however the extra 256gb more storage may be a limiting factor.

      • I mean the P53 at $599 isn't that bad and will probably built better than the ThinkBook which costs 130 more + the P53 is bigger and has a much better GPU

Second hand 6 year old PC's are not bargains.

    • It can be a bargain if it was $200. But for $750 yikes! Run.

  • the store is betting people buy because of the fruit logo. Seriously Max trading… When you will learn… That we are smart and want real bargain…

  • No one is gonna mention about the notorious "BUTTERFLY" keyboard?

  • LMAO where deal

  • a second hand base m1 air could probably be found for a hundred more with enough searching

  • +1

This has an Intel processor, the butterfly keyboard AND the TouchBar!

It's the pinnacle of Jony Ive "form over function(al keys)" design.

  • +1

@MaxDirect ask yourself would you buy this at 700? At 500? At 200? Probably no.. then why sell it lol…
