Looks like their membership numbers are much lower than expected.

Must be a real Hawthorn in their side.

Collingwood didn't discount theirs last year until about the middle of the season.

Anzac day game already appears to be sold out.

If past years are any guide to go by only a few teams will do an SEN membership day special at the start of the year. My team the swans haven’t done one since I think 2019. I would be extremely surprised if Collingwood did a membership special at any point this year because attendance levels are going to go Bananas!

      • Collingwood did them at the start of the season in 2021/2022, but not last year. Last year it was around mid season.

      • because attendance levels are going to go Bananas!

It's hardly worth getting one as the block buster games are always sold out, so you can't use your membership to get in at the gate.

Possibly because they have by far the most supporters in the AFL. 🤣🤣🤣

TIL there’s actually people who support AFL teams outside of Victoria.

People who manage to stay awake watching a game.

I doubt many on the Morgan gallop pole for the Swans actually go to games, watch them on TV or even listen on the radio,

Do you know how the question(s) were phrased?

It's like if you asked me with NRL team do I 'support' and I answer Melbourne Storm, even though I've never been to a game and never watch them on TV.

          • @PainToad: they're called ex-Victorians.

          • @PainToad: That's not particularly clever as SA, WA and Tas have always been strong AFL states.

There's a lot in Sydney, mainly because they've usually been successful. It seems to appeal to a lot of women in Sydney too as their members are 50% women, the highest of any club.

I don't know if it'll ever crack Queensland, their league supporters seem more fanatical compared to NSW. I don't understand why the NRL have dragged their feet on getting more Queensland sides in the comp.

        • Haha yeah they just put that stuff out to stir people up and get them talking about the club. I’m assuming it’s one of those surveys where they go to a capital city and say if you had a pick a club who would you pick and enough Sydney folk say the swans so it pumps their numbers, same thing happens in Melbourne with Melbourne storm. I assume they do these surveys for the benefit of potential sponsors but has no bearing at all on the football community.

They doo this for most clubs (dogs, saint, Carlton, hawks etc.) every year as they cross promote each AFL club to drive membership sales. Its worthwhile for smaller membership base teams, as you can walk up and go to games. Bigger clubs (Collingwood, Carlton, Richmond), as most home games tend to be ticketed, you are forced to upgrade to reserve seat for a fee (like $20). Some home games against interstate team can walk up… Note, once signed up, you will likely be on retainer, meaning it will auto renew for next year (only get 3 games not 11) unless you cancel.

Not for 'most' clubs the doon't…

      • Unless things have changed, they doo membership days on SEN.. pretty sure they 6/10 Melbourne clubs (Carlton, Hawks, Saints, Geel, Bulldogs, Melbourne) so yeh, that would be 'most'..

Yes, you need to set a reminder to yourself to cancel…. In case you miss the 'fine print' on the email they send….

      • Yep, I forgot to cancel a $1 3-game North membership from last year and it rolled over into this year, not overly excited about the fact but it’s my own fault for forgetting.

      • Unless you're a credit card churner like most good Ozbargainers…

        • I'm a dud ozbargainer, forgot to churn mine this year and it cost me $700. Got a Citibank and now nab have changed all the perks - hate nab.

Got 6 games for price of 3 for Carlton last year ($99 from memory), only a couple big games had the extra fee and it wasn't as high as $20. Still very good value.

      • Where are you sitting to get sub $20 for these ticketed games?
If I don't have the kids with me, I'll go GA (if I get in quick enough) and stand. Or I'll buy a nose bleed and stand.
But getting half decent seats for me and the kids for the Rich & Coll games just cost me $48 (Adult) and $21 (Jnr).

        • Had a look through emails, Carlton vs Collingwood cost me $13.50 for a GA seat on Level 4 as an Adult Club Member.

    • Richmond were selling cheap 3 game memberships towards the end of the year - showed how attendances had dropped off.

  • Hawthorn selling off 8 games for free, before a ball has even been kicked, shows how well they rate their chances this season…

    • Pretty much. Hawthorn supporters don't have much to whinge about though. I'd hate being an Essendon supporter - all hope and no glory

is the AFL the fairies that prance around the field and jump?

    • Yeah. The most watched footy code in Australia.
