    Are these quite?

    • +40

      quite what

      • +2

        quiet riot

      • -3

        Quite what who?

      • I guess we'll never know ;(

      • quite quiet?

    • +5

      Quite.

      • +3

        quite shoosh

    • +7

I find my Lenovo m700 to be quite. I'd imagine this is also quite.

    • +5

      Yeh these are quite quiet.

      • not quite but pretty quiet

    • +1

      They are quite.

    • -5

      Are these quite?

The one I got from Kuwait was…

  • Does it have in-built wifi?

    • +2

      Negative

    • Can be solved for a few bucks with a usb if you aren't too far from the hotspot

  • will this run forza motorsport on max settings?

    • +106

No, but it can play solitaire at max.

      • Minesweeper?

        • -8

          Definitely…

    • +4

      yes at 8k

  • Is the ram upgradable?

    • -1
      • +1

        Wrong video?

      • Dodgy ad. The description has something about Kidsafe and the kid's in the back with a visor to hide her from the sun and truckers, but the mother says, "Make sure they can see you, hun". But why? Is it that global grooming agenda people including MAGA are talking about? But then how do we reconcile the fact that many truckers would be part of that group? Oh, like how the worst offenders are often the ones in the most trusted positions and easiest access? Wait, before you react negatively, remember the pinch of salt and that joke about the difference between reality and conspiracy theory…

    • This system supports up to 32GB sodimm DDR 4 ram in 2 slots. Quite a decent little system for the price.

      • +5

Quite a decent little system for the price.

        See! It is quite.

        I knew it.

Can I play Genshin on this?

  • Hi I bought this pc. I read catch.com.au has something similar but theirs has a HDD instead of a SSD. I want to make sure this has a SSD because I don't trust spinning drives.

    • +1

Storage Type: HDD (Hard Disk Drive) on eBay page. It's the same item as on catch/kogan.

But the title is misleading then. I would be keen to know as well if its HDD or SSD.

      • +1

I cancelled my order for the mean time until I get a conclusive answer. Too bad cause I really wanted a passively cooled mini pc so I dont have to run my main system all the time when web browsing.

        • I have kept my order. There's always an option to return via eBay as the title is misleading.

        • Those ebay info-boxes are frequently wrong. OK, so are the specs written by the refurb sellers, but more likely the boxes are wrong.

        • OP confirmed its SSD

  • +2

What kind of SSD is installed (m2 or 2.5")?

  • +1

Here's a YouTube video showing that you can upgrade the RAM and replace the 2.5" SATA drive that's in there:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KN1vygM7e1c

  • +1

so no optical drive, is there a hole ? or is the cover there?

    • There's a cover.

      • -1

Does the system without optical drive look exactly the same as the one with optical drive?

  • +1

What does everyone buy theses mini-PCs for? Emulators? Steam Stream Boxes? I need an excuse to buy one……

    • +3

Proxmox VM host, OPNsense router, NAS, Plex, …

Desktop even, if you want small and quiet. Run fanless when possible.

      • My old laptop with pretty much the same specs struggle to run Proxmox, looking for a RAM upgrade or getting one of these minis with 16 GB at the least.

        • +1

I have an old ThinkCenter micro, with i5-4750T and 8GB running proxmox, no problems. Runs a few home servers incl HA, plex.

Laptop is a nice idea, built-in UPS. But reliable network link can be an issue.

          • +1

@bargaino: Yeah not that it cannot run Proxmox but the moment you deploy Nextcloud, it spikes the hell out of RAM, I believe it is NC rather than Proxmox probably

            • @TaurusHead: I have not tried NC, but I thought it was supposed to be lightweight, run on a Raspberry Pi even?

      • … small and quite…. :p

      • Proxmox VM host

i think thats a nonanswer. whats running on them?

    • +1

If you're struggling to get a Raspberry Pi, these are just a few dollars more and probably more capable for small projects

      • +5

This is actually cheaper than Raspberry Pi’s and the required PSU’s these days.

        • +1

Cheaper and faster. The only real advantages of a Pi are slightly lower power use, GPIO and Pi-specific images.

When Pi's were $25 they were really good value. The organisation that makes them is preparing an IPO, so prices might continue going up.

    • +6

family members for desktops. My Mother or Brother can return it to me easily should they magically have problems with the usual statement of "I didn't touch anything it just did the changes all on its own" which usually range from crappy apps installed where they change browsers with bundled garbage or simply they moved or deleted icons. a small mini PC is ideal as even my mother can pop it into her handbag and bring it over.

      • That's a good idea.

    • Plex server, pihole, HA along with a few other Docker containarrs.

  • Whats power consumption on these

  • +1

@Calmago can you confirm that it is a SSD please. The same product on your website says HDD.

    • +2

      yes, it's SSD.

      • M.2?

  • +1

Would this be suitable as a Jellyfin front end?

The media is stored on a separate server in the attic, with a i5-4670k.

I just want something to plug into the TV, and watch some media locally hosted through Jellyfin.

Occasionally I would want to watch a sports stream.

I'm looking at a Rasperry Pi 4B 4GB as well, but this is cheaper and comes with a case.

The i5-6400T processor has Intel® HD Graphics 530, which supports up to 4K, and Intel Quick Sync graphics.

I think it should be ok, but just double checking.

    • +1

      Chromecast?

      • Nah, chromecast doesn't play well with my server for whatever reason. It often drops out, and I can't control it. Movie will continue running, but I can't pause it etc.

Plus, not all kids have devices, so something that they can just use would be beneficial.

      • +1

        or Fire Stick/Cube.
You will get must better experience via a dedicated media device.

    • No HDMI out port but apart from that it should work.

      • +1

Seems like a display port out on the back, though.

    • +1

I've used a Chromecast w/ gTV and a Apple TV as a Plex client(no transcoding) with no issues.

If you're using a newer file format, it may be something your server can't handle transcoding.

Maybe check for network issues or other problems in your setup.

  • +2

I think it should be SSD, because I don't think they ever made 512GB HDDs. They are usually 500GB

  • PS/2 Mouse Port, 9 Pin Serial Port! This is really Japanese Special.

  • How slow is this thing going to be?

    • Super fast for console, not so fast for gaming

    • +2

      15kph.

      • +1

A tad over if dropped from a 1m height.

  • What type of windows licence does it have and is it transferrable?

    • +1

Usually these systems will have an OEM license which is not transferrable.

  • +1

So i have a few of these at home as our work had them and got rid of them. Pretty powerful little machines. Have a 2.5in sata slot as well as a m.2 slot for both wifi and ssd. Sips power although i havent checked power usage.
The windows 10 license is built into the machine (volume license, I think).
Make sure to upgrade the ram. It has 2 slots so hopefully its just a single 8gb stick atm.

  • Also there is no hdmi port but you can use a dvi to hdmi adapter to use it on the TV

    • A DisplayPort to HDMI adapter would be better; unlike DVI it carries sound and supports 1440p and 4K.

  • Faster than a Raspberry Pi 5? Need something for hobby projects like HOAS and pihole.

    • Marginally. Geekbench returns 1000 single / 2700 multi for this (https://browser.geekbench.com/v6/cpu/1159545), Pi5 regularly scores 750-900 single / 1700-2000 multi

Can shove more RAM in / change CPU so it has that going for it, even though it'll probably chew more power.

    • Plenty fast for HAOS and PiHole.

  • Combine with https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/196254415403?itmmeta=01HQMHT08N5…
    4gb RAM for $5

    If it comes with 1x8GB

  • I have a spare 7600k, could I put that processor in here?

  • +3

Well, this wasn’t the one I had my eye on but it’ll do and if I don’t find it useful I’ll sell it. Haha, I mean it’ll just go in the junk drawer. Why do I do this to myself.

  • It is a tough sell for me as the machine doesn't have a USB-C port nor a Wi-Fi module.
