  • wow 12" so cute hmm too bad i have surface pro already similar size and ligther

    • Any surface pro on sale at the moment?

    • Same price too? How did you do it?

      • Surface pro 5… Less powerful same ram… Better screen… No keyboard.. AUD 200.. just search on ozb

        • -1

Can you please assist a bit further here? - I have searched for this but can't find a current link. Many thanks

          • +1

@mjdavo: Of course not current…. Even if current, it will be gone in 2 hours before you managed to reply

        • Even cheaper, with the keyboard here…

Is the battery OEM or non-branded?
With OEM, I can read reviews and align battery life estimates a bit more closely than the wildly varying true capacities of non-branded ones.
As an example, my Dell XPS15 has been through 2 battery replacements. 1 OEM Dell at $165, and 1 non branded from a battery place in Regents Park NSW. The non branded one touted 97Wh meant for the newer XPS 15s (but still compatible with my 9550 model), but the battery life was absolutely horrible. I think battmon also showed a lower true capacity and I noticed faster degradation in a short amount of time.

As a result, I'm quite wary of non-OEM batteries.

    • -2

      These are NOT OEM.

  • +2

    OEM

    • +2

      Thanks for that.

    • +13

OEM? They are in fact aftermarket and are not full capacity either.
My friend ordered two with these so-called new batteries models and they are worse than the used originals the previous $231 Bufferstock batch had (which apparently had 6-8 hrs life which these don't).
Capacity on these OEMs is 60-70% out of the box even after a cycle of full charge and discharge. The design capacity on the battery tests on both show 44004mWh but charge capacity is around 32000mWh on both.
      .
BTW these were sold previously for around $275 with a Thunderbolt 3 Dock:

      • Has the bios or Toshiba utility been used to set these to undercharge to 80%-ish?

Not familiar with this model but others have a desktop mode for when left plugged in for extended periods to limit charge to 80%.

        • Nope it's on default settings. Also it died at 26% charge. Restarted and it was 0%. What a piece of junk.

    • +3

Hi, would @spy be correct in saying the batteries are non OEM? Seems like there's a discrepancy in the type of battery installed. I've placed an order and would like this 100% confirmed before shipping. Have they been tested like the previous deal battery life 6-8 hours?

      • Good luck getting a response. OP has absconded.

    • If the battery was manufactured contemporaneously to this machine it is likely to be quite degraded despite being "new". I had this experience with a different Toshiba model a couple years back. I would almost go so far as to suggest you might even be better off with an off-label battery if it was manufactured significantly more recently. However those may be harder to find for Tosh compared to majors such as Lenovo and Dell.

I could be tempted by this except 1) 8gb, and 2) don't need right now, as 3) not enough of an upgrade over what I already have in my quiver.

      • Correct these could be new old stock that was manufactured ages ago stored in a non climate controlled warehouse. I would go for newly manufactured cells.

Does this take extra RAM sticks?

  • What do these weight?

    • Probably around ~1kg - 1.2kg

  • +1

Does it have capacity to upgrade the Ram?

Battery test instructions for anyone purchasing these:

Get a detailed battery report in Windows 11
At the command prompt, type powercfg /batteryreport, then press Enter. The battery report will be an HTML file that's stored in a folder on your PC. The file location will be shown in the Command Prompt window.

Also beware as PayPal is not a payment option so nothing else to rely on for purchase protection.

Be wary of this Windows battery report, I purchased a new battery about 11 months ago, when I got it, it lasted about 6ish hours. Now it lasts about 1 hour and when I did a windows report far warranty, it showed 100% healthy and warranty won’t cover it.

      • This is true. Same happened with ACT SP5 eBay deal but they were decent enough to offer $40 refunds to ppl who reported these issues.

    • Did they already charge you? They charged my CC but I haven't received it yet. Hoping to get notification of posting today.

How is this for displaying sheet music in tablet mode portrait orientation on a music stand? It will be used in an orchestra for a few hours at a time. My other half plays the french horn.

I paid using paypal so you get purchase protection

      Great, my bad.
Let us know how you go.
BTW their packaging is the best of all refurb joints. They clean, sanitise, deodorise, polish and use sleeves and bubble wrap before securely taping the boxes.

  • Can the lenovo ThinkCentre M920q act as an OPN/PFsense router (pcie capability for 4port nic)?

    • +1

It can, people have done it already and it is a popular base for such a router. However, I read someplace that it needs the 135W power brick for the 5 port NIC, it does not say what it comes with but there is a chance that it comes with the 65w one. I do not know why it would need such a big power brick, it does not make sense to me but just some of the research that I did.

    • Yes bought one last year off eBay and came with 90W power brick. Added the PCIe riser and Intel I350 quad port nic, now the M920q is running 24x7 as OPNsense router. Good appliance, easy to maintain.

      • How many drives can these things fit after the NIC has been added?

        • The M920q - by default no second drive. Unless you shuck a SATA SSD and mount in the space around the NIC, plus insulate to prevent elec shorts.

The M920x and M90q have two nvme slots on the other side of the chassis.

          • @clippers: Thanks for responding.

I ended up going with a Acer Veriton N6640G instead.

Larger form factor and less powerful CPU but it takes 3 drives (2 sata one NVMe).

            • @TightLikeThisx: @TightLikeThisx Good size yes.. I will do similar when my NUC server eventually dies and get a NUC9 Extreme for more slots and Thunderbolt.

  • -5

No Windows (same for Apple gear) but $220 delivered for 33.8cm touch (2cm larger diagonal) Chromebook with good keyboard cover & 15h battery is my new benchmark. I wish I can upgrade the RAM to 8GB. External Samsung T7 2TB is more than enough storage.
I want larger screen when on the road (carry once, use many times ;) & then usable extra screen for messages when attached to 4K monitor. Only need to test reasonable USI 2.0 pen.
For partial mobility, the Acer Nitro 5 cheap upgradeability is great for 11gen i5 ~$700

  • +1

Just be careful on these i7s which are some kind of version with similar power to newer i5 8th gens.

@hunterzz Is the Lenovo ThinkCentre M920q vPro/AMT enabled?

    • its not Vpro

The M920Q or Kamrui N100 for around the same price?

  • +1

Got one of these from the previous $231 deal and working great. Upgraded the nvme (gen 3) SSD to 1tb, it's on the underside of the motherboard so a little more work but not difficult. Using a cheap $21 7-1 usb-c dock off Amazon with it.

    • Wished i got one of these

  • I bought one of these new. Good little Laptop.

Battery life when new wasn't great. It hasn't improved in the 5 odd years that I've owned it lol

Anybody else experience that the built in speakers are terribly soft?

  • Great price on m920q. They take a half-height PCIe card if you buy the internal riser board.

  • Ok, i went for the Toshiba Portege X20W-E, will report back once received.

Noticed the pen is not included, but might not be a problem

    highschool laptop refurb?

Is the screen over 300 nits, how is the fan noise and battery life for taking notes prolonged time? Also, are there minimum scuffs and steins? Thx

  • Thanks OP! grabbed a W20W-E for my little one. Hopefully it's tough enough to withstand a 10 year old…. any idea how long the delivery will take to metro Sydney area?

  • +2

    Sold out :(

  • Damn this was perfect. Out of stock 😞

  • I bought one of these. How long have people waited for delivery with bufferstock?

  • Ordered the M920Q Monday night received today. So within 3 days to Melb. In good condition and still has stickers over the logos. Wi-Fi antenna has seen better days but works fine and I'm using Ethernet anyway. Already up and running to replace my way overspecced HTPC plex server

  • Anyone received their X20W-Es?

  • +1

Ordered mine on the 26th AM.
Bufferstock says "shipped via Australia Post on February 28, 2024 with tracking number"
Australia Post tracking says "Received and ready for processing Thu 29 Feb, 4.13pm"
There's been no update to the tracking since then and yet still says "EXPECTED ARRIVAL Mon 4 – Tue 5 Mar"
There's 5 mins left until COB in BNE. Not likely today I'm guessing.
    Anyone else still waiting?

    • Im in Brisbane too and my story is the same as yours.

      • +1

TL:DR - Organisations have no idea how to communicate and consumers are treated like mugs.
After being contacted by the seller this morning in response to the above post, he advised that my order number was indeed shipped on the 29th and that he'd raise an investigation with Australia Post and suggested I do the same to expedite the procedure - which I did.
I then get a phone call from Australia Post this afternoon to advise of the multiple failures on both sides…but not in those words.
Seller advised in this morning's PM that "there had been delays in shipment due to battery consignment being stuck in customs. Our first lot was release and half of the order we shipped out end of last week, half is still waiting for new battery"
Mine wasn't shipped on the 29th, so I have to assume that it was waiting for a delayed battery. It seems the seller provided a manifest to Australia Post for the whole shipment and AP scanned every item on the manifest without knowing that they only had half the shipment.
So when you see "We've got it - Received and ready for processing" in the AP tracking page, this doesn't necessarily mean they actually have it.
What a shitshow. Here's what my tracking looks like:
Shipping information received by Australia Post Thu 29 Feb, 10.21am
Shipping information approved by Australia Post Thu 29 Feb, 10.51am
Received and ready for processing Thu 29 Feb, 4.13pm
Customer enquiry lodged Wed 6 Mar, 10.56am
Delayed – waiting to be processed for delivery Wed 6 Mar, 12.00pm
Picked up from Sender SEVEN HILLS NSW • Wed 6 Mar, 1.25pm
Transferred SEVEN HILLS NSW • Wed 6 Mar, 2.36pm
Received by Australia Post SEVEN HILLS NSW • Wed 6 Mar, 2.36pm

It'd be nice if the seller weighed in here to advise why those whose laptops were delayed weren't told, and why I was explicitly told mine was definitely one of the ones shipped last week, when it was actually one of the ones delayed.

Ironically, I've just received an email from Bufferstock asking to "Review Your Experience with Us"
Maybe when my experience is finally over, I might just do that.

        • They are probably getting new batteries for these given my feedback on my friend's duds with supposed new batteries as mentioned above. I'll ask him to contact the seller and get his ones rectified with the correct batteries too. Rep hasn't returned to this thread since my feedback too.

    • My story is also the same. The updates on their website are misleading and they provide updates only when asked for, with a standard line, "apologies for inconvenience or thanks for understanding". Also, I got an email to review/comment on the experience, hopefully my experience with them ends soon.

  • I guess we could be waiting a while for this to be delivered.

  • My experience with shipping is the same as above. I ordered an x20w-e with a dock from a previous deal and although Australia Post said they had it, they didn't. I got an email from Bufferstock saying they were waiting for batteries, then the batteries were delayed. After around 3 weeks they sent out the laptop, but forgot the dock. They sent that pretty quickly after I emailed them.
It seems they advertise, get the money from sales, order new batteries and fit them, then send out the devices some weeks later. Mine seems fine, but better communication would be good.

  • @spy I just did a powercfg /batteryreport. What would you like from it?

The name of the battery is G71C000KX310, and it seemed like a new battery was installed on 2024-03-07: https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/82856/111060/chrome_20…

    • Good. Will let my mate know that he got dealt a couple of duds so he can get them fixed.

  • I did a clean reinstall of Windows and it seems like "Toshiba Settings" or "Toshiba Utility" is missing. I'm not sure if it was ever there in the first place.

Can anyone check if they have that installed - and if so, what version is installed? Thanks!
