Paid 169 a while ago for a 8gb 7500t so this is a pretty good deal

EDIT: oh wait I had a coupon. $140….still, these are good for the parents especially mine who when I set it all up and was showing dad the windows desktop he said "…….and this is a computer?"

    That's your use case folks.

  • bought 1, thanks OP.

    • +7

Not really a deal, only 5 available compared to 800 and a much newer more compatible machine.

      • ok, fair enough, I got 2 of those as I had some ram at home.

      • +3

performance wise, which one is better .. ?

Edit: Got my answer : https://technical.city/en/cpu/Core-i5-8500T-vs-Core-i7-6700T

      • Is it 2x8 or 1x16GB?

        • I messaged them and their response was

Unfortunately due to the volume of items processed daily we may not be able to confirm the ram configuration.
This unit is likely to be configured with 2x8gb.

        • +1

Mine was just delivered with a single Micron 16GB DDR4-2666V module.

          • @Thrift: Same for me, got a single 16GB stick, SK Hynix, HMA82GS6CJR8N-VK.

This was a great deal :)

I also ordered 8GB SODIMM 2666MHz DDR4 from them for $10.92 shipped after eBay Plus discount, from here: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/204662743571 but it hasn't turned up yet.

    • +5

If by "almost the same" you mean an 6700T that is two generations older and has 2 fewer cores.

      • -2

Well it does have 4 more threads. Why do you care about threads vs cores, i7 vs i5. Just give me the speed of it. Or mention some features like better encoding.. "me likey bigger number"… 7 > 5 then…again who cares.

      • -3

"almost the same" in that you will not notice any difference. Unless you use bench-marking software and a magnifying glass.

        • +1

Or if you do any GPU encoding, or anything that might use those 2 extra cores.

          • @ldd-mn: Those are not GPU cores. Do you mean "CPU"?
I encourage you to reconsider whether your contrived special use case are really very plausible when you get past vague ideas.

            • +5

@bargaino: No, I don't mean CPU. They were two different statements. 8th gen Intel processors have way better performance for encoding video when compared to 6th gen. This is a big benefit for anyone using this as a Plex server. When I mentioned the 2 extra cores, I was talking about the extra, not to mention faster, CPU cores.

                • +5

@bargaino: I guess we don't need new hardware at all then? Why keep making faster processors if they only perform better in benchmarks and never for anything else?

                • +4

@bargaino: Plex uses quicksync, therefore an 8xxx processor will be more capable than a 6xxx processor. Quicksync wiki will have the full table of capabilities

    • +5

Not comparable, that won't support Windows 11.

        • +3

I also have W11 running on older hardware, including a Dell Inspiron 1720 from 2008 with a Core 2 Duo Penryn processor. As of 24H2 it will no longer work on that machine at all due to a new hardware requirement of SSE 4.2.

If you buy a machine with an unsupported processor you run the risk of MS making it unusable during the lifespan of W11 unless you’re will to switch to Linux.

            • @xwx: No worries, it took me by surprise tbh.

I was going to have a crack at a desktop from ~2002 but that may be a bridge window too far in time.

Yeah W11 has always required SSE 4.1 which coincidentally was introduced in Penryn, so anything pre 2008 won't work properly/all at.

even if stalled and unable to update those machines I've already moved to Win11, that is better & probably safer than the variety of ye olde oem OS.

Oh for sure, pre 24H2 W11 will work fine for ages, just make sure to get an image before they yank it from their servers and be careful with banking/online shopping etc after security updates end.

  • Any deals on the Mini?

    • Mini which sorry?

      • Dell Optiplex 7060. Sorry not even sure its called the Mini, I think its just the desktop hey. The one below tower.

        • +6

Small Form Factor - Won't don't see small form factor/ tower stock in the numbers like we used to (not including workstations). These days it's at least 1000 to 1. The industry standard is Micro/ AIO

        • +1

I think he means the SFF….. U beat me to the reply

  • Can I put bigger HDD in?

    • +5

You can upgrade the NVME SSD and/or add a SATA SSD/HD.

  • +3

Will this be better for emulation say up to Wii/Ps2 era compared to those intel n95 mini of boxes that keep coming up on Amazon ?

  • Good deal. Great support from this seller.

    • You can get a brand new 1TB NVME SSD for less than $100.

  • +9

My research found this model uses two DP ports and no HDMI. So if your using this to connect to a device with only HDMI (like a TV) you will need a display to HDMI adapter so factor that into your costings

    • +1

eBay listing indicates HDMI but picture is as per your description.

      • Do you know if it would work with my laptops usb-c docking station?

    • So the answer is no hdmi??

      • +1

        Correct. No HDMI.
Dell sells an optional expansion card for HDMI.
        https://www.dell.com/en-au/shop/dell-additional-hdmi-video-p…

It appears this is what the description of the eBay article refers to when talking about HDMI and expandability.

But the specs and price are pretty good for the rest of it IMO.. Very tempting

        • +2

If it had HDMI I would jump on it. Getting an adapter is a hassle

      • Displayport to HDMI adapter cables are less than $20

  • Would blue iris run well on this?

    • +1

depends how many cameras but yes the 8500t is likely more than enough for majority of setups

    • +24

      sorry we don't sell contraception

        • Is it on the Apps list?
Can you list the "odd added extras"?
          Does it require reinstalling Windows?

  • +1

Probably a silly question but I take it no GPU could ever fit in this? Looking for a cheap gaming solution

    • +1

      You are right. No way.

    • There are some ways to use the NVMe port to connect a GPU, but don't do that, especially with the low power T-series processor this uses.

    • It may be possible however I'm not sure. Linus Tech Tips managed to turn a similar desktop into an alright gaming pc. There's two videos. I recommend you check those videos out. They managed to add an Ryzen 580 into the HP Z420 which isn't the same device but should be similar in size. YMMV though.

      • +3

Those are much larger machines. You're comparing a Micro PC with one that is a Tower PC.

        • Ahh my bad! I wasn't aware there was a difference. Then there should be no way for @mnckt to add a GPU unless they use the method @flagsarefun mentioned, which isn't recommended.

      • +2

You can fit 10 of these micro PCs into one HP Z420.

    • Possibly an eGPU.

    • Depends how much messing about you’re willing to do https://www.reddit.com/r/sffpc/comments/10a2aw8/concept_1l_l…

I know this is a Lenovo tiny, but the size/layouts are similar.

    • +1

Using a GPU internally? No but Externally? Yes. I actually followed this guide to turn mine into a silly little gaming PC with a GTX 1080 and it works just fine. https://egpu.io/forums/builds/dell-optiplex-7070-mff-no-dgpu…

    • Afraid not.

      It is too small.

The power supply will be just enough for the included hardware. These units may use non-standard power connectors for the motherboard, meaning you cannot simply swap in another power supply.

I mean you could take the entire motherboard out of its case, mount it like a test bench (and it may not use mATX screw layout), bypass case intrusion detection, buy a power supply, buy an adaptor for the power supply, and stick a graphics card in that Frankenstein's monster of a computer. If it has a free PCI slot. Then you could maybe play more games than the built in GPU allows.

But it would be much, much cheaper and easier to just spend that money on something from marketplace, with a better prospect of it working.

  • +2

Are these any good for running a jellyfin server ?

    • I run Jellyfin on a much larger more powerful machine but there is nothing saying this couldn't do it. I think from the 7xxx cpu's they had the ability to encode h265 10-bit? I don't have the ability to look it up atm but a quick google will help you. I mean if you are going straight to a Jellyfin app it doesn't even need to encode.

      • I currently have my jellyfin server running on my main PC and stream to my android tv It runs perfectly but I want a low power PC to run 24/7. I did a Google search on the CPU and it should be fine for a jellyfin server I might need to upgrade the SSD to store a large database

      • +3

You're correct - the Kaby Lake (7xxx) series added H265 (HEVC) 10-bit encoding (and decoding).1

        1. Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Quick_Sync_Video#Hardware_decoding_and_encoding

    • Yeah should be pretty capable if you need transcoding

    • I run my Jellyfin server off the same Dell Optiplex 7060 Micro.

  • Any equivalent form factors that take 3.5 inch HDD as well? I've bought this tiny sff model before. Excellent PC for home use.

    • so this wouldnt accept a Western Digital Purple Surveillance Hard Drive ?

      • No, unless you have a dock/DAS/NAS with the drive/s installed.

  • any decent just to run a cctv software such as NX witness (IP based video management) will expand storage?

  • +3

Thanks Calmago - ordered 3 to add to my proxmox cluster :)

  • +2

Excellent basic WFH machine. I'm using one now.

  • Thanks OP.

Does the USB-C support video output?

    • +3

      You'll need the USB-C Video Output add-on.

Refer to this forum post - latest comment has a AliExpress link to purchase.

  • +1

Do these have the HDMI add-on included? Image has it missing but description has HDMI listed.

  • Any good laptop deals?

  • is the igpu in these good enough for wii/switch/naomi2 emulation?

  • Can anyone comment on measured power draw at the wall? Comparing vs one of the cheapo N100 deals that pop up every now and then for a server use case

    • +6

      Less than 10W idle.

  • +5

    Good as a Plex server!

  • can the DP output to HDMI?

    • With a dp to hdmi adapter, yes.

    • Yes, with an adapter. If you have a 4K60 display though, make sure the adapter supports 4K60 as not all of them do.

      • What 4K monitor lacks DP? A television?
Note if you are connecting to a TV just for video, 24/30Hz is fine.

DP->HDMI needs an active adaptor to get hdmi-2, for 4k60.

        • Do you know if it would work with my laptops usb-c docking station?

        • -1

My 4K monitor has 2 HDMI ports and 1 DP port, and the DP port is already connected to my Thunderbolt-only laptop, and I want to keep the OptiPlex connected via a 4K DP-HDMI adapter. Is this a good enough use case for you?

  • +1

    Do you sell…
DP male to HDMI male or
DP male to DP male ?

Can it be purchased together or separately?

    • +1

Check out UMart for these, they'll cost you about ten bucks.

      • Thanks!

  • Rep do you know which PSU is in your Z2 G4s?

  • +1

I will recommend adding an identical 16GB RAM stick though to enable dual channel memory (or replace with 8+8 kit).

In single channel mode, I get laggy 4K playback on YouTube. No issues at all with dual channel.

    • Do you know whether this is single 16G stick or 8+8?

      • +1

They tend to be different for each unit, depending on what the seller has on hand, it's whatever the original business had for the original machine.

You won't know until you receive it, you'll be able to check in Windows Task Manager.

      • +1

OP might be able to confirm, but in the last 9500T deal, I got a single 16GB stick.

      • Mine was just delivered with a single Micron 16GB DDR4-2666V module.

    • I have the same issue
I ordered the memory with the same module number as you recommended
I hope it resolves the issue
      Thanks!

    • +1

      Thanks!!
The issue has been resolved after adding an identical memory stick

  • thanks op got one,

Waiting for deals on $200 Surface Pro :-)

    • +3

Should be on the cards again in the next month or so

      • Thank you!

    • What are the specs of the surface pros usually? Might have to buy one of these also :)
