With rebates in some states this makes a good enough car with good range specially that can go from 0-100 in 4.4 seconds if that's what tickles you. Me personally would not buy anything that's not LFP.

To capture a snapshot of each model's resale value, AutoGrab used its pricing algorithm to ascertain the retail value of each model from 2020 to 2023 with an average kilometre interval of 15,000km a year.
That price was then compared to the manufacturer's listed retail price to determine the retained value.
The problem is this compared used car prices with current MRRP. So if you buy a car for 110k, Tesla drops price to 100k and they’ve scrapped data from carsales showing cars for 90k on average, it will say only 10% depreciation from MRRP.

Resale of early models have dropped because Tesla has lowered the retail price and there are government incentives for new cars. When a used car and a brand new one are the same price, why would you buy used?
Battery degradation is at expected (low) rates, and out-of warranty battery replacement is extremely rare.
I agree but extend this to all EVs. I'm not totally convinced it'll change but it also won't be much of a factor when everyone has to buy them anyway. What will be will be.

kg of co2 per 100km? Much less than an ice car. Even if you've magically worked out a way to exclusively use brown coal electricity to power your car.
Anything I plug into the wall here in vic will use brown coal to some extent.

Anyone in Brissy that wants to experience one then reach out to me… I have the LR with acceleration boost and it does 100km/hr in 3.8seconds.
These models are much nicer than the newer highland which have a plain front bumper, no steering stalks etc and it looks quite ordinary as well as being slower!
I have a few aftermarket accessories installed like auto frunk, full CF body kit, rear passenger screen, tilt front screen, display cluster on steering wheel column.
I have a LR too and I agrree that price now is absolute bargain for a great car!

That's very subjective. I find the Highland fascia much cleaner than the old frog face. The interior is also a big step up with sound proofing and ambient lighting.
The ventilated seats are the game changer. The real flaw in the old model 3 was that on a long drive on a hot day the air con can only do so much. it just wasn’t amazing. Now it is!
But you do know that the AC in this car is atrocious right? It can't even compare to the AC in a basic Corolla or Mazda 3. Now the same AC is expected to cool the PVC seats as well? That's a big ask. The seats are crap as they are plastic. Need to reapholster the seats with real leather and your body will be praising you for ever
@Logical: Yeah I’ve got one. The AC is not atrocious but it’s a weakness given the glass roof and can’t properly handle the Aussie summer. With the sun shade in the front roof section and venting from the app and pre cooling just a minute before driving it’s not so bad. It’s definitely a weakness but the seats are disappointing though. On a long drive they just get hot and sweaty.
@choofa: I can tell you from my one week of highland that ventilated seats are so, so, so cold (even on 1 out of 3 setting) on the back compared to that weak front AC wind :). To get a similar degree of cooling I have to turn up the cooling level on the front vent much higher as my back is much colder than the wind coming to my face.
I was just watching the Tesla Tom (ludicrous feed) - now he should be called BYD Tom I guess on Youtube. He did a comparison with the BYD seal temp with its silver coated top and it was noticeably cooler. So I'm thinking of getting the silver coated shade installation on his video!
@youngchul76: Is there an auto setting on the seats? The heated seats on the old mod auto adjust to the climate control. Surely the cooling works the same????
ive just had my highland RWD delivered last week.
here is my one cent - surprisingly, indicator is absolutely not an issue after a few days. your muscle memory is very, very quick at adapting.
The reason I changed from old model was because of the rear screen (not me, my kids actually who wanted it badly) and ride quality (old model I felt was a bit rough although I got used to that pretty quickly as well). I'm still not convinced whether I made the right decision though, as this adaptive suspension is making it feel less "adhered to the road". Old model I could really feel it stuck to the road and grippy, whereas the highland does have superior passenger comfort but I feel like I've lost a bit of that "stuck to the road" feel. But I'm pretty sure I'll get used to it quickly.
Interior is a bit of mix bag. I like the LED lighting etc but the loss of wood trim around and replaced with that fabric like material.. I think I'll get used to it as well :)
Overall, much quieter and better comfort, but I do see the advantage of the old model being more "stuck to the road" and grippy feel.

Is the grip difference also the tyres?
The old model had performance tyres.

not sure - Youtube reviewers from UK were commenting on that as a possibility (Hankook tyres) but mine came with Michelin again (I can't remember exact model/name but it was different from my 2022 model Micheline)

It most likely is. The grip on the PS4 is pretty good but you pay the price with the ride and the atrocious tyre roar. Turning the car in an undercover car park will show how bad the tyre noise is. I reckon the reduced interior noise of the new model is down mostly due to the tyre change. I definitely will change mine when mine needs replacing.
It took 10 minutes to install an aftermarket 7.1" screen in the centre for the rear passengers on my older version model 3. Kids can watch YouTube and play games.
can you search albums and songs with those aftermarket ones? really disappointed with Tesla ones you can only flick through the current album or playlist not search

The UX in a Tesla is brilliant. You don’t need android auto or Apple CarPlay.

@cloudy: Absolutely (though I plug mine in every 3-4 days). A pain in the neck compared to filling up a car every 3-4 weeks with a hybrid.
@choofa: Im with you. I suspect most of the BYD keyboard warriors have never driven or even sat in a BYD - they're just lording on them for their cheap price. I very much dislike the BYD wacky and weird interior designs (Atto 3 door release anyone….) and the UI on their screens is an abomination (to say the least), so lucky they have Carplay…..
The BYD interior controls are all loose and tacky, so i dont mind that Tesla have tried to completely change the approach - it is what it is (love it or hate it on both sides).
I'm curious how BYD get the prices down outside of the battery advantage. Many car makers build their cars in china, however they use the long proven and developed processes they have spent decades refining. They still use the same labour (and cost) to manufacture it. So I wonder where BYD cut the costs so heavily…..? Maybe design?

Tesla button door release vs atto 3 quirky handles… I’m not sure either worry me. Both interiors have their oddities. I like both though.
The Tesla is hands down a way better experience. The phone key, walkway lock, one pedal driving, responsiveness, autosteer… it’s just far superior in many ways
@WetWaffle: Word on the street is that their government subsidy is fairly significant and Musk made a comment that unless trade barrier/some sort of intervention from EU/other markets they will negatively impact car industry because they are basically trying to sink the competition with these "discounted" mass produced EVs.
I've driven seal performance before going for highland, it was quite a solid car but like you, I couldn't do the interior. It felt a bit too…. flashy? coming from Tesla with clean interior and just "get in and go" philosophy it was a bit of a shock to come back to "start" button and gear stalks (bit of a weird design that one..). The car felt very quiet and "smooth" though. I could see why people love it, it's a very different car to Tesla's zippy, minimal, go-kart like drive feel. I think this is what people refer to as more "luxurious" feel. Even on a hard acceleration from standstill it's got some sort of "controlled" acceleration, quite different from Tesla.
In the end I thought I'd just go with safe choice as Seal had just come on the market but I don't doubt they will snatch a lot of potential first EV buyers from the established brand.

Tesla - despite not having carplay, has an excellent interface which is designed for driving. Once you start using it you realise how easy it is to function while operating the car. The BYD literally have a normal Android interface (even when swapping apps you legit have a full page flip app swap screen pop up - i am surprised its actually legal given how much effort is required to take your attention off the road to operate it).

Not really. BYD use crap batteries which are slow to charge and discharge, the car is basically slow compared to a Tesla.
Same deal with the engine.
Not even worth talking about the rest of the tech because they are decades apart.

The price is $64k, which is $8k cheaper than list price (albiet for the outgoing model). That's basically used car pricing for a brand new car - which makes it a bargain (something bought or offered for sale at a desirable price)
It's a particularly good deal when you look at the performance, which is sufficient to blow the doors off some pretty exotic sports cars….in a straight line at least.

Lol, newer model is a cross between a polestar and a Volvo. Good luck with the resale of that. At least the older version is better all around, highland version has cheaped out materials everywhere you look. Just look at that 🤮 steering wheel, plain front bumper, narrow headlights, flimsy and basic plastic dashboard etc. older version is tougher and faster.
All of those things you described are subjective design quibbles, and you’ve failed to consider all of the actual improvements Tesla have made to the MY23.5.

Even the Highland long range isnt lfp… The high land long range uses the same battery as previous model.. so this is a decent deal
LFP is cheaper, but lower performance and less energy dense. That's why they only fit the LFP to the RWD (single motor) model - it helps keep entry level costs down.
The NCA battery is a very similar physical size as the LFP, but due to better density it has more capacity. It's fitted to Long Range and Performance where additional sustained output performance is required for dual motors.
