  • Am I seeing right that it's cheaper to replace this than buy replacement cartridges?

    • +1

      Nope.

Accord to the Lexmark website specs for cartridges:

      Laser Cartridge Yields

      up to:
      4,500-page Black High Yield Cartridge
4,500-page Color (CMY) High Yield Cartridges
1,500-page Black and Color (CMYK) Cartridges

      ******Cartridge(s) Shipping with Product******

750 page Black Return Program Toner Cartridge, 500 page Color (CMY) Return Program Toner Cartridge

      • Huh? whats the price? what they try to say is price for those carts is more then $350 each

        • +4

Well the printer comes with starter lower yield cartridges

The price for genuine cartridges for black is $180 each and Colour is $300 each.

So around $1080 for a full set of high yield cartridges.

Yes, it's way cheaper than any other colour laser MFP, and there's a very good reason for that. You get what you pay for.

I bought this a few years ago and it's atrocious for printing images of any kind (lines across the page and poor colour accuracy). After about a year suffering with this junk, I paid 3x as much to replace it, and got 20x the print quality, plus better software, firmware and design.

      • What did you end up getting

        • +2

Canon, although HP is a little cheaper and has even better firmware (although Canon's is still fine), the print quality is better on the Canon. Most people would be pretty happy with either - unlike the Lexmark e-waste.

          • @Nukkels: What model Canon did you end up getting? I'm in a similar situation right now, looking for a colour laser that has decent output. I'm using a Brother MFC-L3770CDW and while text is fairly crisp images or block colours are less so, and Mrs C is now starting to print more at home and needs better quality. I do like how the Brother has duplex scanning, though, that's a fantastic time-saver - Canon have that on many models, too, but not all.

            • @Chazzozz: Canon MFC746Cx - it was very hard to find in Australia a year ago (it was only a single retailer, and they don't stock it any more).

The HPs we use at work are the LaserJet M479dw. Unfortunately those are no longer available anywhere either, and there doesn't seem to be an equivalent model any more - the M480 is the closest (and the model number is incremented by 1), but it no longer has wifi, and it's quite a lot more expensive.

Sorry that doesn't really help much - things have clearly changed quite a lot in the last year or 2. I honestly don't know what I'd recommend for a colour laser MFP any more - probably one of the lower specced HPs, like the M283dw or the 4301, but do some research first to see what you'll miss out on, and make sure you won't get locked into the unethical toner subscription program they're trying to force everyone into (don't even sign up for the free trial, because you can never go back).

          • @OzyBe:

            the first one clogged up

No, it still works fine. I gave it away to another family member as I got a new model with more features.
