FYI - It has 360 spring bars which aren't tools.

    • +13

These are equivalent to getting cable ties.

    • +7

360 spring bars huh? Doesn’t sound like enough to me

    • +1

I did wonder how the number of pieces added up. Knowing how much actual good quality watchmaking tools cost and decent spring bars, I wouldn't expect much for this price.
      .
Just what actual watchmakers need - more idiots opening their watches and attempting DIY jobs. It doesn't bother us for the cheap stuff, but when someone attempts this with a decent watch its often a very sad outcome. It's been bad enough fixing the damages caused by the kiosk guys in the shopping centres and the sales staff in some of the jewellery stores.

The screwdrivers would be useful for many other things, if they are strong enough. I used to keep a cheap set iny kitchen. It's amazing how useful they were.

  • +5

I have no watches but definitely need one of these kits in my life. I do, honestly I really really do - don't look at me like that.

    • +18

      Let's start at the beginning…
      No watches? Why so?

      • It looks a deal to him, simple answer lol

  • anyone have a go to video on how to use?

    • +3

      That’s a very broad question

I’d just look on YouTube for specific things you want to try, like changing a strap, adjusting a steel bracelet, etc

      • good idea

  • +1

I bet this kit has more parts to it than my actual watch

  • +2

heck of a lot more pieces

Nope. Just more junk parts (springbars)

  • Got one from aliexpress last week, so far ive adjusted 4 steel strap for family members and replaced 2 strap/band.

    • +2

How much did you charge them?

      • +5

Probably a slab of great northern.

      • +5

Nothing, but i told them i may or may not break their watches as Im not youtubing stuff to make it more fun for me

        • +2

You should break it so you can use the other tools to fix it again

      • Did you add the pressure test extra charge?

  • +2

I have a similar kit which I used recently to replace batteries on 4 watches. Some smaller (female) watches will also need a case closing tool, similar to https://www.amazon.com/Zacro-Closer-Watchmaker-Repair-Fittin…

Not all will need this to be closed. Out of the 4 watches I had, only 2 needed the press. Most larger watches will have the threaded backing which the adjustable case opener can be used.

    • +2

I found the case opener wasn't big enough for my Wenger 1043.10, could only use two of the claws out of the three.

These tool sets can also be found for much cheaper on eBay, which is where I got from.

    • Thanks.
We pay for Battery replacements around $25 per watch. How much do the batteries really cost (approx range) ?

      • +1

        $7

      • +1

The ones I bought ranged from $3-6

      • +1

My local shoe / watch repairer charge $15 per watch, the batteries are about $6 alone, or much cheaper for a pack of 5-10 from Amazon.

  • +3

I bought one of these few years ago. I regret buying it! All my family and extended family brings their watches for batteries -_-

    • +4

Your fault for probably boasting that you change your own watch batteries :p

Just tell them you've broken your tools. Though deep down, you like being known as the "watch guy" in the family.

      • haha nah I did not tell anyone, my brother did the marketing

    • +1

Good to practise on their watches before you do your own ;-)

      • That's one way to think

  • Only if I had a watch

  • +1

These are tools you buy that are useless for watch repairs, but end up working perfectly for taking apart random items.

    • +2

      franco

      Press F

        • +2

The thing that gets me is that you've capitalized USD, but not aud… :-)

        • Nah wasn’t about the grammar - I purposely use bad grammar in all my posts and replies anyway.

I meant press F , as in Press F to pay respects
wilipedia reference because IRL Franco passed and ozbargain Franco got permabanned (unrelated incidents)

    • Is Franco's better value than this one (436 piece set) if I just want to change watch batteries?

  • Thanks - bought one. I can't think of any immediate use but I'm sure it will come in handy at some point?

  • +1

It looks like this one has a much better pin pusher than the aliexpress one. I have one of those plastic pin pushers from the aliexpress kit and, while it does work, it's cheap and crap and always feels like it's going to break. This kit seems to have a metal one with a finer thread.

  • Are people saying the springbars and junk because they don't fit most watches?

    • Probably more the quality and higher risk of the spring bars failing and then your watch drops on the ground when you’re wearing it.

      • reuse original ones on watch? they usually don't break right

        • Sometimes the original ones do break or you lose them which is why this watch repair kit has some (potential poor quality) spares

          • @illusion99: it's not always one size fits all right?

            • @Poor Ass: No there are different lengths and thickness but ideally most watches should be 20mm lug width

              • @illusion99: That's a pretty big generalisation! Most watches are somewhere between 17mm and 22mm. Plenty of ordinary watches have lugs that aren't 20mm.

                • @macrocephalic: That’s why I said “ideally should be”. That’s my personal preference lol

    • +1

Nothing wrong with that. You bought tools you needed rather than stuff you'll probably never use.

    • Perfectly fine. That's exactly the same as one I used when working in a jewellery store.

  • Looks good, but it is generally the normal price and was cheaper a few months ago.

  • +1

This makes me remember I opened my dad's watch when I was 10 and never put it back again. This shall not happen again.

    • I know you are not my son because all my watches are intact, but this is exactly the shit he does. I'm proud that he's curious and investigates but unhappy about my now broken stuff. I'm forced to use the power point switch to operate my coffee grinder because the on/off switch no longer works.

  • +1

Only probably watchnerd has enough watches to use 360 spring bars

    • +3

Nah more like @rosebank than me, that guy needs help.

  • Thanks OP!! Ordered!! I don’t own a watch but if I ever do I will be ready to repair it!

  • +1

Bought this on last posted deal.
Already changed batteries on 3 of my wife's watches.
    She used to pay $25/each.
    It already paid off!

Very easy to do, just followed YouTube videos.
Item looks to be of good enough quality for occasional use.

    • So you think with this kit we can replace the battery of all sorts of watches?

      • +1

I tried 3 different ladies watch, was ok.
I wanted to try on my Tissot, but was too chicken, will leave it to the professional.

  • OP’s one or this kit?
