Spring bars aren't tools so it's not really a "147-Piece Watch Repair Tool Set" but it's still is a good price.

    • +5

at least its not cable ties this time!

      • +6

I think you mean indestructible watch bands

    • +1

Heh. I bought a similar kit off eBay with ‘507 PCs’ that bulked up the tool count the same way. Having said that, it came with a handy storage compartment box full of spring bars in sizes from 8mm to 25mm. The best thing is the inside of the lid has an index card indicating what size is in which compartment.

      • Are the extra spring bars worth paying a bit more + delivery?

        • +1

spring bars are cheap and you really dont many spares at all.
none if you buy quick release straps

          • +1

@franco cozzo: Most kits come with some of various sizes. Still good to have but got some fatter ones from AliExpress (admittedly the 22mm not very good and still move around in the tuna so just shoved the original Seiko fatbars in the strap. Get what you pay for but the 20mm ones were better.

    • +1

Agree - I got something like this on ebay once - worked well for changing batteries and things on the watches I dont mind scratching.

  • +6

Surely this is just another form of porn for you WatchNerd?

  • Anyone else have these kits and has no idea what half of the tools are used for?

    • +1

      nah..its pretty straight forward stuff

  • +2

This and a bit of Youtube, how hard can it be?

    • +4

      exactly
25 for a battery change is now 3
buy straps from aliexpress for 5 instead of 50 and change your own

  • +2

forgot to add….quick FREE delivery too

    · Fast delivery 10-day delivery by Feb 01 - 06

    · also make sure you are looking at the black 147 piece kit so you know what you are buying (its not the blue one - aliexpress trickery as per usual)

    • +1

I actually prefer the blue or brown kit compared to the black one. I find it much easier to remove watch band links using that block thingie and the hammer.

      • yeh i have the blue one…was dissapointed to see ali have done the bait & switch on the thumbnail pic but this is still cheap and good value especially including shipping

    • Only black left though blue shows in pics?

      • +1

aliexpress do bait & switch with their thumbnails a lot of the time…
show you a higher value item and then you see the actual product once you click thru to the product page
the black 147 piece kit is the only kit available at this price

  • +3

As someone who is addicted to buying tool kits, this is a yes

    • glad to be of assistance ;)

    • +1

      You talked me into it.

      • +1

And you talked to me in it. Should I buy two? So they can keep themselves company unused on a shelf in the shed?

  • +1

Do we need this tool ??

    • +13

…me or the deal? cant tell which you mean

  • It's USD $2 for delivery now

    • ….no its not. still free here as a choice promo

  • If I wanted to assemble watches from parts that I buy online (to create mods) is this the right tool kit to buy?

    • not sure…this is the basics so you will probably need additional specialty tools depending on what youre doing

    • +2

Absolutely, and if it's not there, generally you can get around it carefully. (Crystal/caseback press)

This was my covid hobby, so definitely not a pro by any means.

The worse the tool set the easier they tend to bend/degrade. So normally you just end up replacing the items in this kit. Helps to know where to invest first. But definitely should be good for an assembly.

    • If you mean, can you disassemble and re-assemble a mechanical watch movement successfully just using the tools in these kits, then the answer is no.

      • You can buy assembly kits, and I can't really think of anything that you'd need extra tool wise.

What do you think it's missing for assembly? Crystal press you could get away without but would make it a lot easier. The caseback may be an issue, but a palm job would work.

Disassembly would definitely be different as you'd need some hand removers.

Only thing I can think it's properly missing would be a loupe, but I've used my phones macro camera in a pinch before.

  • +3

The screwdrivers in these suck and will scratch and strip bracelet screws. Would recommend better tools if you have an expensive watch.

    • +1

The fancy watch whorologists are bringing out the Bergeon tools

    • +2

Yeah this, the crappy tools work for a cheap watch

I’ve got a Horofix Adjusting Screwdriver for the good watches. The flat head tip is so much better for adjusting screws becaue they don’t slip (and scratch) like the wedge ones

      • $40 US screwdriver lol…
you probably buy $150 leather straps and consider them exceptional value too right?

        • I think you and I may have very different watch budgets

          • +2

            @Gunnar: lol. dont flex….not here
a lot of us are happy when we buy an citizen or seiko for under $150-200-300 and realise there is a massive diminishing return with 'luxury watches'
& lets face it they just arent relevant or even remotely interesting to most normal people.

            • +1

@franco cozzo: Omg @franco cozzo that's meeeee with my $150 star buy lmao!

  • +1

What's the luxury version of this?

  • +1

I’ve been looking for something like this at a fair price forever now, thanks OP

  • I have been looking for some for a while.

I saw some on temu for similar price. Not sure how they compare in quality.

    worth ricking it?

My comment earlier got unpublished cause it had the link.

  • +1

perfect for that one 1 time i want to replace a watch battery every decade.

    • +4

Buy yourself an Ecodrive & save the bother

    • +1

Still handy to have and cheap, mostly used it to resize bracelets etc. makes more sense if you have multiple watches but you'd save on one battery change straight away vs take it somewhere.

      • and lets face it…..youll take better care of your watch and do a better job of it too, because you have the time to

  • +9

I have these "Watch Repair Tool Kit Instructions" saved up from when I bought mine a few years ago.

Thought it might help those who bought from this deal. Watching some vids on YouTube definitely help too!

    • That's a great resource!

  • +1

Here we go. Adding to my collection

  • +2

Heads up the bracelet pin pusher tool in these kits is terrible quality. The pusher rod is made of a soft and easily bendable metal. If you are looking for a pin pusher, choose another tool set or buy a quality one independently.

    • used mine ok (on a seiko bracelet i removed when i did my dads watch service & clean….)
its very similar to bike chain pin removal so i had about 15 years head start and didnt break the tool
      i recommend mechanical sympathy

      • I'm a bit spoilt in that I have access to a Bergeon pin pusher tool - it works without issue every time and its pushers have never bent or broke. So when I tried this I was a little disappointed they chose the cheapest soft bendable metal for the tool. Bent it on the first use. It would never move stubborn pins no matter how gentle are careful you aligned the tool. You might get away with using it once or twice if you we super careful. For home use to resize a single bracelet you could be lucky. After all, you aren't going to be buying Bergeon tools if you are only using them once every few years.

  • Nice watches are all about precision, quality and good tolerances.

Surely the exact opposite ownership experience provided by a $10 Aliexpress toolkit.

I mean, the deal fits with the theme of the site, but it's totally at odds with the idea of mechanical watches.

    • -1

this is just for watches…who said anything about high end or mechanical?
this isnt for your patek phillipe

      • +1

Even cheap mechanical watches are going to be works of art compared to the flexy, rusty, snappy tools in a $10 kit. I mean, the comment two up from here mentions that just the pin pusher is crap, and how hard is it to make a fat needle properly?

Don't get me wrong- I have some simple cheap Ali tools for bracelet changing, some simple polish for acrylic faces. But they were bought individually and not as part of a kit that is almost guaranteed to be terrible.

Bit hard to imagine why anyone with a quartz watch would want to open up the back- if you're going to worry about battery replacements, that's maybe once every 3-5 years.

(But hey, maybe I'm just being a pedantic, finicky, fussy & overbearing aspiring horologist?)

        • +1

          what do you mean…?
i did 3 quartz battery changes last year for family members….that would have cost $75 at the local watch guy
can now replace bracelets straps buckles for any watch with usable tools
whats the drama….that it doesnt cost enough?
          (….also lol)

          • @franco cozzo:

whats the drama….that it doesnt cost enough?

More the point that if you know you're going to only have a couple of specific tasks, to get the separates. All in one kits are usually a compromise, especially at the budget end of toolsets. And you also end up with a load of tools which you'll never use.

Maybe a difference in approach, but I've always gone for specific tools rather than buy a load of extra stuff that probably sucks and that I'll never use anyway.

If you're laughing at people for spending $40 on a screwdriver, I don't think we really see eye to eye. I don't have any $40 screwdrivers either, but I won't laugh at people who value high quality tools.

      • +1

perfect for your petak phileip though :)

  • I got one. Not great tools, pretty rough. The black block is good for holding watch and the pin driver for pulling back spring pin is useful. The rest of the tools so-so. You get what you pay for…

    • I was thinking about that 'big black block'.

Does that work like a clamp ?
eg. to put equal pressure on the surface area,
to push down on the back of a watch cover?

Over the last 20 years, I bought watch-fixing tools,
and have been fixing watches, replacing batteries, etc…
but this is the one I missed, so I have trouble putting back the backplate.

  • +1

I trust ozbargain too much. I bought it without doing any of my own research. I have a lot of these tools but it's good to have a case for it all!

  • Anyone replaced a tag hauer battery, ?I'm sure the official dealership would charge plenty? Would this kit have the tools to DIY ?

  • No tools to unscrew open any of my Rolex watches … no bloody good …

    :-|

    • Why you want to open it, do they use proprietary crap?
Just take it to a Rolex stealer lol

      • Why you want his Rolex to get stolen?

        • Dealer = stealer lol

      • Thanks … ain't gonna work.
Real Rolex (or probably any similar watch) are tight-tight shut. Very.

But you can buy a proper Rolex dies tool to fit.
To open and to waterproof seal back your watch.

        Video was fun.
        Thanks again.

  • +1

Saved heaps of money on battery changes using a tool set like this. Just add some spare seals/gaskets with the greasing box to complete the kit. I've never had a problem with water leaks after using a new greased gasket after I replace my batteries.

  • +1

so is this good for changing straps and removing links from the bracelets? These are what I would be after.

    • yes. springbar tool and watch link removal tools are in there

  • Would this help me change the battery in a Mondaine watch?

  • now even cheaper: AU$14.19
with the savings you can start squirreling away for your next richard mille…ok, ciao!

  • +1

now AU $13.96 for those that were holding out for a sub $14 price!~

      • +1

        And now @ AU$11.72
