I copped a week long ban for one of my more recent avatars. It was more controversial than the woman showing her legs that resulted in a heap of people sooking to the mods about nudity.

Now it's Maywa Denki who brought us the Otamatone. Surely this won't offend anyone now.

      • +13

The Otamatone looks like a crack pipe. I have now relapsed and you will be hearing from my attorney.

        MODS! MOODDDDDSSS!! HEELLPPP

      • Otamatone

        Do you know… La Hee?

        • Thank you

    • It's clearly jv

Nice, time to clear out my little cart, although the deal isn't so great this month.

  • Good way to get a OnePlus 12 until they put a region lock

    • OnePlus region locks phones now?

      • Yes unfortunately

  • Good timing, ill be grabbing a 2230 ssd tomorrow.

  • Damn just spent a few hundred on networking gear. I'll make sure I wait next time. Currently got 1 choice order lost at my local Australia Post office other than that delivery time has been excellent.

I'm downvoting as a warning to fellow ozbargainers that they may encounter the same experience I had: losing a dispute with a AE seller over a significant amount of $ due to language barrier.

Before you neg that, consider yourself in this analogy: you pay a significant premium for actual diamonds, only to be sent cubic zirconia. The seller wins the dispute with the argument "a gem is a gem".

Now I wasn't buying diamonds, but wouldn't you downvote any company who gives buyers no protection in a situation like that?

    • You lost the PayPal dispute as well?

If it wasn't diamonds, then what was it really?

      • AE didn't (doesn't?) accept Paypal if shipping to Australia.

I should add, this was not a dispute over counterfeit brands/goods. It was a cheap/ineffective material in a safety device being passed off as a premium material/product. And I provided ample evidence that the seller was not selling what they advertised.

Full detail: actual Tritium lights (used in scuba, camping, survival) as a reliable light source (10-25 years glow without need of 'charging'). Seller was asking a premium price (fair-these aren't cheap; so I paid) and sent me a bunch of 'phosphor' type glow products that need to be near a light source and then only glow for 20min. The seller won the dispute against my evidence with the words (literally) "glow is glow".

Two weeks after my dispute they'd closed up shop and opened under a different name.

AliExpress have accepted PayPal for over 3 years in Australia and the button is plastered all over. It must have been a really long time since you've ordered. It's still possible to do a dispute with a closed store, it's also possible to chargeback if you don't use PayPal.

Tritium lights is a tricky one. I can see how a seller with sell something like glowsticks instead of that. Not the sort of thing I'd use AliExpress for. Rather gadgets and electronics myself personally.

          • @Clear: Fair call - they lost me with that one but up until then I'd had 90% positive experiences on AE - even with disputes. Just a shame the one that was easiest to prove was lost so comprehensively.

Geez I wish there was a decent AU place/price on these Tritium lights :)

You've been duped by one of the most common tricks in China.

Most products have multiple listings/brands/looks for what is the same Chinese manufacturer.

Some will sell these dirt cheap, some will take those products, dress them up as quality/fancy, and sell them at a premium.

I only ever buy from AliExpress/Temu/eBay or similar once I have located all the sellers that sell the products, compared them and then decided what the real cost of the product should be.

You should never buy a safety device or anything where quality is assumed from these Chinese shops unless you want to gamble on trying it, and have the expertise to check the quality.

      It's all experience @MattyD

      • look at the number sold numbers and reviews
      • word of mouth store recommendations
      • don't spend too much on there
      • if it's too good to be true it will be, it's a heaving platform for fake and cheap goods (most people know this).

I wouldn't have expected real diamonds lol.. how much was the item?

      • Or just don’t buy from aliexpress and don’t have any headache

        • Yeah just go to David Jones

  • Not great % wise, and was expecting a S&S discount as well. Got a bit in my cart so might continue to leave it till a) a better disocunt or b) I just don't bother buying it.

Chinese New Year is next week, should be some good sales/discounts then

      • But they won't ship it until the month after. Factories close, shops close, postal services close. I thought Chinese people don't stop for holidays!

      • Was about to jump the gun until i saw this. Thanks for the reminder.

I had nothing but problems with AliExpress. I ordered four products over the last few months (nothing expensive). Only received 2 out of 4 and still haven't received my money back on the others after months. Others might have a better experience than me but I will not buy any other product via AliExpress.

    • +2

So you bought from low feedback stores? How have you not done any disputes to get your money back? Non-delivery is a pretty straightforward process to get a refund. My most recent one took less than 4 hours for AliExpress to agree.

This is a sale on Choice products that have the same distribution setup as Amazon's FBA with protections that'll refund you if it's not delivered. If you want better guarantees you order Choice.

      • -2

Generally yes. But that's not everybody's experience and sometimes you lose big, against all reason. Personally I won't take that risk anymore where I am not fully protected by Aus consumer law or equivalent.

        • Personally I won't take that risk anymore where I am not fully protected by Aus consumer law or equivalent.

Basically applies to all overseas purchases.

          • @Clear: I'll buy O/S by reputation/review. If people are encouraged to share their experiences (good and bad) with sites like AE then others can make more informed choices. Definitely encouraged by the PayPal change.

      • Nope rating were good. Did my homework but still unlucky. Sometimes you win and sometime you lose. Not a big deal since they were only small amounts. Yep went through their process and they promised to resend what they never did. Once you have been through the process you can't start another one. Anyway going through paypal now to get my money back.

    • Did you get tracking? Even the cheap stuff I buy has tracking.

The one time I didn't get my package Australia Post had delivered it to the wrong house.

      • yep had tracking but the last event said that it was past on to aussie post and then the tracking stopped

        • Can't you track it with Australia Post?

        • +1

What did Auspost say when you asked them?

        • +1

I encountered the same issue, and the refund/dispute process on AliExpress left much to be desired. Despite clear confirmation from AusPost tracking that the item was lost, AliExpress insisted on asking me to wait endlessly. Eventually, I had to use PAYPAL to secure a refund for my purchase.

        • I had the same problem, they marked item as delivered when it was just passed to AusPost and didn’t give me auspost tracking number. Huge headache, time wasted and many months of disputes and back and forth with Paypal to eventually get my money back. After that i deleted my account and don’t buy anything from AliExpress, they can implode with their shady business practices.

    • I have the same problems with ebay and amazon.

      • For my experience. Amazon is the best, while eBay is also a good option. Both are good choices.

      • -1

Amazon is great, free returns and zero issues getting refunds for things for any motive. Miles ahead customer service and experience than Aliexpress

    • I have previously ordered hundred of things from AliExpress and have always been careful with the sellers I buy from.
However I have decided not to buy from AliExpress unless I am prepared to lose the item and only for cheap products.

I had an issue last year with an order of 2x solar led garden lights where I received only 1. I lodged a dispute with AliExpress showing them the package which contained only 1 item and told them there was no way you could fit 2 items in that 1 satchel. I thought AliExpress were pretty good with disputes and would protect buyers but boy I was so wrong. AliExpress sided with the seller because the seller had delivery tracking and Paypal also denied my charge back.
So buyer beware! You are not protected in cases where it's your word against the seller's.

      • +1

Same! But they refunded 50%. Maybe just lucky or maybe they look at your orders to complaints ratio. I buy a ton of crap through AliExpress. Maybe complain once every 50 orders.

  • Overall I've had good experiences with AliExpress, especially with choice products where I've always received what I've ordered well within the two weeks. There is still the usual bait and switch of "low price, but title and description of a more expensive option", but that's always been clear to me at least when I go to select the options.

Pay through PayPal, in USD if your card/bank has more favourable currency conversions than PayPal (quite likely).

I wouldn't buy anything safety-critical off AliExpress, but it's served me well for small electronics, and hobby electrical/mechanical components

  • Anyone have any recommendations for IEMs available on AliExpress for around $30 to $40 AUD?

    • Moondrop, KZ and maybe Simgot are the brands that come to mind…

Although I think KZ might have been a bit hit and miss of late (so check their reviews), and Moondrop being available on Amazon for roughly the same/sometimes cheaper.

    • I bought the Moondrop Space Travel TWS recently, the sound is great and has lil nifty features, only bad thing is the design of the charging case.
If you want wired, the only ones I can speak on are QKZ x HBB which are quite good, very bassy and lush-sounding(idk), that goes for around USD$9.

      • Yeah I've got the Space Travel too and the case is quite annoying. I got a phone with a headphone jack recently so I'm looking for some wired IEMs. Any thoughts on the Tangzu Wan'er?

  • Thanks heaps, got my cart ready. The only thing left is the payday

Currently holding off AliExpress orders - have had issues with past 3 orders all being FastHorse express. Worst courier company. Luckily I used Paypal to dispute rather than dealing with AliExpress Support.

Story: FH Express drivers can deliver at any time, even at 9PM… One package was dropped on my lawn, then the driver took a photo, and then proceed to grab the package back and drives off. Plenty of reviews on google showing saying they'll steal packages. Luckily I had CCTV and reported to Aliexpress, who didn't refund because FH tracking shows delivered with a blurry POD of a parcel on grass…. Paypal gave instant refund. Aliexpress also gives 5 days for sellers to respond, which wastes further time.

Other times they delivered at 8PM, didn't ring doorbell but just leaves package on doorstep… Don't know how they're still in business.

    • Every single package I receive from Aust post or StarTrack is left without doorbell ring. Some Aust post/StarTrack with sign required don’t even come to the door and just leave the pickup from post note - I know this because I have security camera footage.

      • You Must have safe drop activated (or a grubby big hound). Some deliveries require a signature and they take to post office.

    • Oh my, Fast Horse Express is such as scam, got ~3 orders delivered by them, all issues. Some never arrived, others had pictures of delivery to a place I'm not even sure is near me, could be in a different state or country for what I know. They admitted it was lost by email but I couldn't even get a refund from AliExpress because the tracking would say "delivered" and it wouldn't update to "lost", screenshots of email inssufficients… had to go through credit card dispute 🙄

      • Yeah fast horse are shit alright, more like an old decrepit mate.. my parcel was Mia for quite a while after they didn't leave it. Just emailed them then they eventually deliver it and leave it in a dumb spot out in the weather.

  • +4

Will never use AliExpress again, full of scammers and their "Buyer protection" program not worth a grain of salt. Scammed on fake Hubsan drone and fake liitokala batteries.

Customer support is poor and the language barrier English / Chinese too hard. Unlike eBay, AliEpress is always on the sellers side.

One tip, use an Australian credit card for when/if things go wrong and avoid PayPal who also drag their feet with any AliExpress disputes.

Taobao now my preferred online platform, who is always on the buyers side.

    • fake liitokala batteries

I just ordered some from 'Liitokala Direct Store' as they were a tad cheaper than the "Official" Store. Was it from there or elsewhere?

    • Taobao is great but it's also tricky to get refunds when the delivery time is so long (6 to 8wks by sea freight) and it's cost prohibitive to return the goods.
I've always been careful to buy from the shops with large numbers of reviews, and have been happy with the goods so far.

  • +3

Bought heaps from aliexpress in the past no problems but in last few month's missing orders, orders with fake tracking numbers, and even with a ton of evidence on my side aliexpress always sides with sellers only option was cred card charge back.

China is in huge financial crisis at present and i think some aliexpress sellers getting desperate.

Was in Shenzhen n Shanghai late last year the amount of businesses closed down was stunning. Of 10 factories I buy supplies from 5 have shut up shop, the other 5 are stressed out, no local no oseas orders coming in.

    • I've had a few orders go missing in the past few months, most stuck at "Linehaul office", all low cost, all refunded. Interesting, but not surprising, your comment about business closures

      • My cheap 28/11/23 order arrived at the linehaul office on 14/12/23. I still haven't received it. Contacted the seller the other day and they said to contact Australia Post. But the tracking number they provided obviously doesn't work here.

        • +1

My latest non-delivery was sent 14/11/23, stuck at Linehaul office on 29/11/23. I msged the seller about two weeks ago that I hadn't received it, they said contact AusPost (they weren't the shipper), I replied that AusPost told me to contact seller (I didn't actually contact AusPost). On 29/01/24 I opened a dispute in AliExpress. On 30/01/24 the seller approved and I've got my refund.

When the seller objects, it takes a few days longer, but Ali has always sided with me except once when I sent a cat picture as evidence (<$1 and I didn't think they looked at pics).

Be patient, clear simple English, and polite. You're probably just getting to the time point for raising a dispute.

          • +1

            @BigBirdy:

except once when I sent a cat picture as evidence

I sent my empty hand once for a non-delivery. I still have no idea how that got approved.

Never buy too expensive thing from AE. You are definitely at risk as the dispute process is a joke.

    • at least use paypal

    • +1

Never had an issue myself. I guess it depends what store you buy from.

  • Hmm, might be a good way to get a Legion y700 for under $500.

Commenting now to see what happens to the price of the Steeldive SD1970 - US$74.50 + GST delivered.

    • Steeldive SD1970 works with - choiceday8 - US$74.44 + $7.44 GST - $8 coupon, Total US$73.88

Best to pay in USD using a credit card with no international transaction fees like 28 degrees mastercard.

I’m here to add fuel to the fire, over the past month I have continued to receive unwanted burritos, I keep messaging the sellers stating that I prefer the item I ordered instead of getting burritos, they just say I will enjoy the burrito more, I’m not sure if this is racism, or is this more klaus Schwab you will eat burritos and you will be happy

  • These discounts are getting worse and worse, 1-2 months ago it was $3 off $20.

    • When AliExpress first started doing coupons years ago you could stack AliExpress + Seller + SuperDeals + Coins + Cashback. Now the SuperDeals stacking part is gone except for select sales with very limited coupon usage.

Perhaps this is a sign of China's struggling economy?

  • Asking a dumb question is this minimum amount including GST?

    • +1

Coupons are 1 per account, do not stack with the new user 'Welcome Offer', "Limited Deals" and minimum spend excludes GST and shipping.

  • Big minium for $3 off , and for that reason I'm out.
Ps alee ordered some watch straps, cheap items I'm not too fussed.

  • Neither choiceday3 nor FFCD03 are working… I guess they already run out?

      Kicking off from 7pm AEDT

      • Stupid me didn't read the "PM" properly. Thanks!

  • Just beware buying things from AliExpress, you can read in the comments how many people ended up eventually having some sort of issue with them and having a painful dispute/refund process.

  • that's clear!

  • Just realise no automated US$3 off US$20 etc (ie. this deal) this month.

    • +1

Probably a sign of worse discounts this year.

  • Trying to use the code choiceday8 but all my order don't go through returning "Payment failed
We had to close this order due to account security concerns. CSC_7200052", only using PayPal did go through but minutes after was marked as "expired". Any idea why?

    • Have you been creating multiple accounts to take advantage of the new user bonus?

      • Not recently but I would have say 6+ months ago :/

  • Are "SuperDeals" the same as Limited Deals? Codes don't seem to be working
