    • That's awful cheap, they trashed or something? Right hand version of the desktop available in QLD as-is for $89 lol

      • BEKANT series is being phase out, and replaces by MITTZON series.

        • Yeah but they're phasing it out for $89 in QLD and $3.50 in NSW? That's a big difference.

Storage: 512 GB eBay vs 2TB at JW
RAM: 16 GB (eBay) vs 32 TB at JW

2 Sticks of 16 GB RAM is approximately $100
2 TB ,Quality NVME, approxmitaley $200

        eBay is 1200

So potential savings of about $300, so yes there's some savings but as @BoltThrower said, it's an older generation laptop by about 2 years.

At this present price point, even at $1500, it may be more tempting to purchase a laptop with a modern CPU for maybe 25% more budget.

        • +1

eBay is $1000. There is always a code available for MegaBuy.

It's an older gen, but these AMD chips are rather capable, unlike Intel's.

          • @Chinese: @Chinese if i can get TRS back so your link becomes $885ish would you say it is good deal?

      $1900 for a 5825U and 1080p screen is a rip off

    • Integrated AMD Radeon Graphics

I always find this the most frustrating part of laptop specs. There's a big difference between the iGPU on different chips, but they're all just described as "integrated graphics". So you have to go hunting down the CPU specs to have any idea.

      • hunting down the CPU specs

but the CPU specs is very clearly listed, so you just have to google thre CPU to find APU specs

      • I agree - but generally if you do actually have a need for graphics performance, then you're going to look for a machine with a proper graphics card anyway.

The buyers who can get by with some integrated graphics, but not other integrated graphics, are a small niche. Most buyers either need a graphics card for gaming, or any old integrated graphics is fine.

        • I'd say that used to be the case. But it's getting to the point that integrated graphics performance is potentially on a par with dedicated cards from a few generations previous. Meaning you potentially don't need a dedicated card (depending on use case)

Particularly in the ultra-light space, I'd argue that's a big differentiator. Without a dedicated GPU you see big gains in power-efficiency, battery life and just overall weight.

Maybe it's niche, but I'm looking for a laptop for my kid at school. It has to be light, long lasting and capable. Normally it's pick any two, but with the right iGPU I might just find that unicorn.

Adidas are fashion watches. For this kind of money or less you can buy the original shock resistant watch… Casio G-Shock.

Aren't all watches fashion watches nowadays?

        • No. Fashion watches are all the ones at department stores where those brands mostly do.. fashion.

          • +1

@G-rig: But I've never seen anyone more concerned about the looks of a product than a watch collector. Clearly watches are fashion items nowadays. Especially considering most people don't need them, with the time being ubiquitous and displayed on nearly everything with a screen nowadays.

            • +1

@ForkSnorter: Nah most people are concerned about the movement, quality & reliability, brand heritage etc,

G-Shock are pretty feature rich, tough, 200m WR, get solar if you can. That Adidas looks like a knockoff and pointless and too expensive.

Same goes for anything - cars, amplifiers, fridges.. buy something you like the look of (and do your own research).

              • @G-rig: just another perspective but I consider most of these watches that aren't "smart watches" as nice to have but not need.

so to me they are gift items. expensive gift items ($179 for a non smartwatch is a lot to me) but anyway that's just the perspective I have on watches. so when it comes to gifts some are very serious and will research, but I think many will not research and just buy whatever is on sale (especially if the person being gifted isn't a watch person).

    • +3

so hideous and the dial is a casioak rip off

      • +2

well it’s too expensive for me but for the price it’s metal and it looking like Casio is actually a plus imo because it’s simple and the proportions look right.
btw isn’t “Casioak” technically a rip off of another watch design?? also now watching a YouTube video on how all watch designs are cycled and released between brands especially on expensive ones.

you are welcome to link to a better looking metal watch for the price (and please don’t link to the $1k Eu De Lemigre that you hypothetically have on your wrist please).

        • IMO, the Skmei 1816 is better looking than the Casioak metal series, I snagged mine for $24 from AliExpress.
Check out the Youtube reviews — mostly positive.

          What I like:
          • Cheap!
          • All-metal (nickel case, s-s caseback, s-s bracelet)
          • Bracelet taper 26-20mm, well balanced and comfortable with no hair pulls
          • Has all functions of the Casio 5611 module found in the 2100 series
          • Great mash-up of Royal Oak / PRX case and Casioak with no BS screw heads around bezel
          • Mineral glass, but it's flush to bezel
          • Nice weight, mine is 128g with 7 links removed.

Only 30 metres WR but I consider it a cheap daily/semi-dress watch.

          • +1

@Speckled Jim: ha, love this photo except where is the LCD text?

Cheap enough anyway for those wanting to test that style. You can easily spend 80$ on the Casioak metal mod kits.
Still waiting on this one from Tictacarea, $305 @ 15% off but great price with all the bells. Should be this week. May end up wearing it as a daily for a while.

Would be a lot smarter buy than the Adidas and should last people a lot longer, has resale value etc..

            • @G-rig:

except where is the LCD text?

That's what I wondered at first. I have to find the damned manual as I might have missed the setting for that. Aside from the 30WR, that's my only other gripe — the Skmei manual. It's a fold-out thing that gets to A1(?) size.
Thankfully the Casio pdf manual applies nicely.

Yesterday I stumbled upon this video that shows the power-saving feature and it's a doddle to toggle. I needed the subtitles, but finally found the method to knock out the PS icon.
Then I re-activated it, because battery. That's another story.

              • +1

@Speckled Jim: A1 wow haha. yeah must have a setting to turn the screen on or off you'd think (hope).

                • @G-rig: Yes it's long-press the D button (4 o'clock position).

The battery thing is…in one review video, fella bought a second 1816 because he claims the hands fell off his first one when he tried removing the movement. Doesn't add up really.
                  1. Why would you need to replace a battery already? Possible but unlikely.
                  2. Why the need to remove movement for just a battery replacement?

So just in case, I want to maximise the battery life for the original as it was running when I got it.
No crown and dunno if it's possible to "pause" the movement somehow.

                  • +1

@Speckled Jim: Hmm yeah bit finicky guess Casio cost a bit for a reason. surely can change battery easier than that.

Still looks ok for $24 but the basic resin ga2100 would be about $120-150 I guess, not sure if can use the metal surround from that.

                • @G-rig: The manual sheet is also A3, not A1 as my exaggerated memory suggested. The PS function is explained under Time Mode, third bullet point.

So it has all the software functionality of the base model 2100 quartz, with the additional Power Save feature. I could not find this mentioned in the Casio full manual or quick reference manual.

My theory: Skmei movement was power-hungry compared to the Casio 5611 module (Casio suggest 3 year battery life under certain conditions, 1.5 sec LED per day etc). So a simple save-face measure was to implement a power saving toggle for the LCD.

                  • @Speckled Jim: Sounds like it's keeping you busy and a bit of fun.

Kind of a landfill item but cheap to start with.
Obviously quirky and not made to last but you get what you pay for.

                    • @G-rig: Edit: I can do maffs

You're right about the fun to see out winter — four watches delivered for just over AU60 is pretty good! Getting the missus into the spirit.

          • +1

            @Speckled Jim:

IMO, the Skmei 1816 is better looking than the Casioak metal series

wow! all metal and $24?! that's definitely a bargain. very cool just have to remember the brand and model name Skmei 1816 that's definitely worth recommending.

Great mash-up of Royal Oak / PRX case and Casioak with no BS screw heads around bezel

yes best point here. I also watched a few videos on the 3rd party casio "mod" but checking prices it definitely wasn't cheap just to get the 3rd party metal parts! and I agree 1816 looks better without the screws. bargain!

            • @harshbdmmaster718: AliEx, one of those "3 from" or Choice deals. The home page usually shows the current promos. It was US $14.84, ($16.32 inc GST) the exchange rate was slightly more favourable last month.
My bank rebates int'l purchase fees in US$ so that also makes a slight difference.

Remember the case is Zinc alloy, the caseback and bracelet are stainless. The links are folded but done quite well. It's a pressed steel clasp with single button release.

Finally, the effective lug-to-lug of 65mm is BS. I was able to bring mine to ~55mm with gentle squeezing between thumb and forefinger of the two primary links. I was expecting a gap penalty for my arrogance, but there is none. Such is the good design and execution of the case lugs and links.

I intend to get at least one more of these.

            • @harshbdmmaster718: This is even more random but you don't allow DMs, so before you take that rando's advice and delete your account (really?)…

That Skmei watch is back to $24 on AliExpress in their Winter sale. There are coupon codes posted here too that may (or not) work too. If not, be assured it's a bargain at that price.

Biggest problem is the pins are hard to remove — small hammer+steel nail+patience or a watch guy.

              • @Speckled Jim: I don’t delete the account, just don’t sign in for awhile. good excuse to get off the phone. every break gives me more time to do things I actually want.

just back to post two deals then I’m gone again.

                • @harshbdmmaster718: It's good policy. I swerved the whole palaver by never having internet on my phone. Some say it's a pointless dumb phone, but I side-load anything I need. Even if I get a virus this way, as it's never connected (sim is non-data) who can hack it?
                  Desktop ftw.

      • also not as good looking as the ozb edition watch. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/853439

but that one is even more expensive so…

    • +3

I’m not a big watch guy, but I do know that anybody into watches won’t go near an Adidas watch. Watch people are not interested in fashion watches like this, or Armani, or Hugo Boss etc. I’m only writing this after reading your comments above. I believe Bulova (in your above comment) is owned by Citizen, so I think that watch would get more of a look than this.

      • -1

but I do know that anybody into watches won’t go near an Adidas watch.

yeah tbh was just looking at the silver Myer one just now, and the adidas logo is pretty big and obvious (it’s slightly less obvious on the bronze one in deal).

but I thought ozb is pay less no matter what! I was surprised when a user complained about the colour of a bluetooth speaker post. I responded “but this colour is $30+ cheaper” and they weren’t happy about that. 😂

not intended to target “watch people” just wanted to give a cheaper alternative.

    • Agree, fashion watch and waste of money. Get a G-Shock!

    • I can see from the photos that the target market is younger generation like under 30 or even under 20 years old. Most average people don't even know or care the difference between quartz/solar/automatic movement, let alone other specifications. Most average people are not like watch enthusiasts/collectors. Imagine if average people put a solar powered watch in a drawer for more than 1 year … Maybe they think they need to replace the battery … Watch enthusiasts/collectors know what to do instead of battery replacement.

Years ago I accompanied my uncle in a shopping center. He bought some $100 Fossil watches as gifts for other people. This is what most average people do. They just buy things that look good and brands they know and they can see in shopping centers.

Yeah it's best to leave solar watches out in natural light, not in the drawer (the manuals say as much). I got separate watch boxes for that purpose but you could leave G-shocks anywhere. If completely flat they would need a good while in the sun, so best to not let them go completely flat. I really like them, some have standby modes etc.

Nothing wrong with Fossil for that price ($50-$150) and would be a better choice, wouldn't spend over that on designer brands. All part of the journey anyway, first watch won't usually be super expensive.

        • Yeah it's best to leave solar watches out in natural light,

thought I should say I watched a video on one of the toughest G-schocks being damaged by direct sunlight. not saying that's what you are saying but some people might think "natural light" = take it off your wrist and put it in the direct sun.

i'm pretty sure it's this video https://youtu.be/7hEATBFAshg (sorry it's one of those boring ones you have to watch all the way through) but basically yeah apparently having it indoors is enough even with indoor room lights.

TLDR: direct sunlight seems to damage the LCD and overheat the watch, stopping it from charging.

          • @harshbdmmaster718: Yeah room or artificial light usually enough.
Best to check the manual anyway.
I think short bursts of 2h in the sun is recommended, not all day or something.

Should be under warranty for that, I know some Arnie's had a fault like that.

            • @G-rig:

yes good idea to check the user manual. if you want to take care of your items I would be safe and always charge it through a window, and not direct sunlight. but ymmv.

it's different if it's on your wrist I think, always moving creating shadow that's why it's advertised that way as "tough solar". but don't think it's tough enough to survive constant direct sun. for example I have some small 5V/1A solar panels, good ones too with the toughest coating and after 2 years of being left under the direct sun they are peeling and looking miserable.

While I have a few G Shocks as well as a Citizen Promaster for outdoor activities,my daily drivers are an Omega Seamaster or an old Tag Heuer…..those who love watches regard them as much more than time pieces.

  • Minimum 50% discount on Yeezy. Although, doesn't look as if there are enough sizes on the stock that's available.

Merged from Zeiss DTC 3/38 Thermal Clip On $3,319 (Was $5,760) Delivered @ HuntTheNight

Carefully posting this after reviewing the banned items list.

I realise this deal isn't for everyone, and I certainly (STILL) can't afford a better / newer thermal (here's hoping).. But I think this is a good deal; I couldn't find it anywhere near this cheap anywhere else.

It's a clip on, as opposed to a straight up thermal scope.

Came here looking for a condom deal … left dissapointed.

      • +2

lol, I love this comment. I wonder if they sell a "slip on", rather than a clip-on…

        • +1

          I think you'll find it's called a strap-on.

@salmon123: I wondered why it appeared to be getting larger, and larger.. and then it hit me.

Nice find OP. If i had more properties where I could use this to enable me to count the nighttime populations of Feral species I would use this. Have watched some you tube and some are amazing. No QLD property for me to go counting in unfortunately, so I am restricted to counting in the NSW State Forest.

I'm fortunate enough to be in NSW and do lots of night-time things (no, not in the bedroom; don't be rediculous).

I just need more money.. lol.

I have a NightTech MS42 and it's getting … old.. Especially when trying to zoom in on 200m… The heat signature and silhouette of foxes is just shit..

    • Very nice - we’re tagging pigs at night I’m assuming ,
or something maybe something smaller at a closer distance ?

      • +1

I'm thinking more like foxes and rabbits / hares between 30 and 250m.. but I don't know enough.. I've seen heaps of good commentary from Ben @ HuntTheNight across FB and also met these guys at various hunting expo's.. I've asked them about this particular unit but I am just wasting their time because I'm a tight-ass and simply can't afford this (yet).

I'm leaning more towards a clip-on because of the fact that it might be easier to zero at a normal range when using a daytime scope? I have no idea.. I only have a shitty old full-time thermal and struggle with zero'ing..

        • I used to sight in a scope on a large dam but I don’t know how that would work with a thermal at night ,
Can you sight in a night scope in daylight ?
I’ve never used one , just spotlighting after dusk around the farm .
