An ebay listing has it for $106 and Manic Music for $99.

So pretty good for the price.

I would think that this is good for POE Cameras etc as well if you are not fussed on branding etc.

    • -1

Definitely ok for POE cameras etc. but the 10/100 network speed makes it quite old in terms of networking capabilities - definitely not fast ethernet by modern standards.

      • -1

Agreed this is a bit out of date (considerably out of date really when 2.5G is becoming fairly standard), but probably when they say fast ethernet they are referring to the typical term for 100 MBit ethernet.

      • +1

10/100 network speed makes it quite old

Why would you need more for cameras ?

        • -1

Each camera may be ok, but if all are recording to a NVR then the 100mb will be a choke point.

          • @uncyspam: Depends on the number of cameras and the resolution…

            • @jv: Resolution doesn't dictate bandwidth required, it's the bitrate of the stream.

That said though, 100Mbps would be fine for 8 cameras at 10Mbps each with a bit of overhead.

              • -3

                @Goldfire:

                Resolution doesn't dictate bandwidth required

It's is one of the main determinants of bandwidth for modern security cameras.

                • +2

                  @jv: Pardon?

A 1920x1080 (~2MP) camera running at 10Mbps will have the same bandwidth and storage requirements as a 3072x2048 (~6MP) camera running at 10Mbps.

Higher resolutions would benefit from higher bitrates of course, but that wasn't what I was referring to originally.

                  • -4

                    @Goldfire:

                    Pardon?

                    Did you fart ?

I believe this is the lowest price for Apple Watch Series 9. Officeworks still selling these watches at: $624.

Merged from Decathlon 2-Person Rooftop Tent for Vans $400 (Was $1399) with Free Delivery or C+C
    Go to Deal

Browsing Decathlon's tent range and saw this 71% reduction on their 2P Van Roof Tent.
This is suitable for Vans or vehicles with a larger roof area (minimum 130cm roof width, min 160cm length max 260cm length)
It's an inflatable airtent pole design (pump included), with a slat base inside and an inflatable mattress.

It looks to be a lot more compact than traditional hardshell rooftents, so could be well suited to people who want to mount it for a trip then store it off the vehicle without taking up too much space. I am not 100% sure, but it looks like you have to remove it entirely from the roof for driving - can't be left mounted. Quoted set up time is 10 mins.

5 Year Warranty. Fresh & Black material for temperature control

  • Merged from Citizen AN8200-50A Quartz Chrono $219 (Inc Shipping) @ Prouds
    Go to Deal

No, wait, hear me out. This might be considered a little bit lowbrow compared to some of the watch deals that get posted, but I spotted this one during a routine trawl and, you know, I don't think it's too bad at all.

For sure, it's not a spec monster: mineral crystal, quartz movement, pressed clasp.

But, look at that dial. lovely silver-white with texture and bags of light play. The slight overlap on the asymmetric subdials. The way the subdials don't give it the angry owl look, if that bothers you. High polished case for blingy shine everywhere. Some interesting angles on the bracelet links. Citizen's five year warranty. And only a shade over two hundred bucks, way cheaper than elsewhere.

    Here's a short video. I think it's quite a looker.

There's also a gold/black version for the same price but it sin't a patch on the silver one.

Cheap and cheerful, but punches well above its price in looks. If you hate it, leave it alone. If you like it, it's a stressless addition to your collection.

    • hmmm how do you know who has this or not?

    • +1

I have seen some reviews, it seems like this monitor is most for show (to mainly compete the clean look of Apple studio display) but lack of true great display quality? Any actual users here can give some feedback?

      • +17

I purchased one 3 months ago.

It's excellent for what I use it for. SDR performance is more or less on par with ASD (it's the same panel).
You wouldn't use this monitor for HDR work but neither would you use the ADS. For that you would need a A-XDR or equivalent rated HDR panel.

Main useful differences between this and ASD in my opinion are the following:

        • Matte Coating on S9 (it can glisten slightly if looking off angle. Fine if looking straight at it). ASD is glossy by default unless you opt for matte etching.
        • Can't adjust the monitors brightness etc via the Mac itself like you can with ASD. Not really a big problem but I get some people are very much use to this.
        • S9 is better for users with broader needs i.e. hooking up PC as well as Mac (me).
        • For students in Dorms where space is restricted. You get the Tizen OS on S9 with all the TV apps ( I don't care about this but it is very useful for those that would want)
        • Power cable is not detachable on ASD meaning unless your sockets are close you may have to run power extensions etc.

You're really buying this monitor for few reasons.
        - You want 5K so that it matches MacOS scaling and 220PPI
        - You want a colour accurate monitor for working in the SDR space. Websites, print work, photography etc.
        - You don't want to shell out 2 to 3 times the price for the ASD. When you are certainly not getting 3 x the monitor.

The ASD is a lovely thing no doubt, but you're definitely paying Apple Tax and for this price the S9 is a no-brainer in my opinion. A lot of users complain about the speakers when comparing the two monitors. For the money you're saving just buy a decent set of desktop speakers.

For the 120hz argument. Driving 5K at 120hz requires a lot of bandwidth. It would certainly be nice to have but until Thunderbolt5/DP2.1 becomes more main stream it's not feasible. This is not a gaming monitor at all, if you need a multi purpose monitor with high-res look at 4K gaming IPS.

Comment below about USB-C charging isn't correct. It's 90W delivery. It'll power your MacBook/Windows machine fine

        Just my two cents.

        • Great summary thank you.
Although, technically it’s thunderbolt charging, not usb-c but commenter below (or their AI tool) didn’t understand that.

Bottom line at this price if you can still find one it’s an absolute bargain of the month, if not longer.

        • For external monitor brightness control, I used the technique in this video explained at 8:22 for my mac and it’s been awesome for me: https://youtu.be/IKzHL6qurMc

      • +13

Why are you posting a ChatGPT response?

        • Especially because it's wrong… I charge my laptop daily via the USB-C cable.

    • +3

i want to be the first to say its 60Hz for once

    • Can anyone with one of these for use with a Mac comment on whether they are any good or not? Most reviews suggest that they are not great.

      • +1

It's good - the screen is indistinguishable from a retina iMac. The software is terrible (in its cold robot heart it's a Samsung internet-enabled TV) but as long as you have it in PC mode it's fine on a Mac

    • I’ve got one on an MacBook Pro m1 side by side with the Apple Studio display. The ASD is reflective and I hate it with a passion.

I’ll pull the trigger on a second to replace it now.

Peak brightness is only slightly less than the ASD
Connectivity - it charges my MacBook using the included thunderbolt cable.

Obviously it does the 228ppi so everything in MacOS is retina / ASD sharp

Colour - had it calibrated, it’s now the same as the ASD. Blacks look better on the Samsung due to it being a Matt panel.

Build quality is a bit average but whatever it sits on a desk.

The worst bit is the Samsung Smart bit which I wish I could just use as a monitor. Sometimes it remembers the input and switches auto, but 1 in 10 times it doesn’t. Could also be an Apple issue

    • Crazy that there are people who would still buy an Apple Studio Display over this.

This is basically the same thing at less than half the price. The Apple Studio Display's drawcard over this is supposed to be audio quality. Imagine paying $1500 extra for a monitor's freaking on-board audio! You can buy a pair of JBL LSR305P MKII monitors for $310 and they will absolutely obliterate Apple's crappy built-in speakers. You could even throw in the sub!

      • +1

Probably because it doesn't have Apple logo on it LOL

      • Well Tbf this is an astonishly low clearance price. So at RRP $2300 usually the Apple Tax gap is not as large.
it’s build quality is definitely not as good as the ASD, it sits on a desk, so meh.

The interesting thing is at this price you definitely take it before a dell U2723QE which is the sub $1k monitor of choice for this kind of purpose, even if only 4K.

    • +1

question is how much better is over my LG ultrafine 5k thunderbolt display?

      • I'd arguably say if you're happy with everything it does then you're not going to see a massive increase in performance.

        The only real cons are:
        - Samsung and ASD get brighter (approx 100 nits more)
        - Thunderbolt3 on LG, Thunderbolt4 on Samsung (doubt the difference would affect workflow and the samsung doesn't support daisy chaining)
        - The LG is just a bit long in the tooth design wise which appears to be its most common complaint. As well as the speakers, which is easily solved.

        Pro's
        - As it was Apples go to 5K monitor for years. It plays nicely with MacOS Keyboard controls for brightness, volume etc.

        • yeah I can't seem to fault the LG its been good since I got it back in 2016. Made alot of videos in final cut X with this monitor, it worked on my 2016 macbook pro (first make with thunderbolt 3) my mac pro 2013 with adapter, right up to my M1 macbook pro right now still going strong. I am having a difficult time wanting to upgraded the monitor lol except maybe for HDR.

          • +1

@kungfuman: Yeah that would be the only logical upgrade.
The issue is to find a Mini-LED monitor with sufficient zones to give great HDR are still fairly rare. The ones that do exist you'll pay through the nose for.
The Apple XDR is a fairly good value proposition in that upper world. If you have the justification to buy one that is haha

Yes OLED for HDR but the potential burn-in issue for using static content is too great.

            • @PH1LTHY: yeah I think I should wait a few more years till prices go down. Or their is more choice.

      Not really even worth $50.
Halloween is another stupid 'day' inflicted on us by retailers.

Like other stupid contrived 'days' or other 'customs' to waste money, halloween can go to hell.

      • So much more than a 'stupid day' now.
        We also get "Halloweekend"!!!
I'm guessing that's actually two weekends; one either side.

      • Go to hell….i see what you did there :-p

Bah, I love these ‘silly’ days…
They provide a brief segue from an otherwise banal existence!

Cool 500 mill. Praise the Lorda. How legal is it to hand over fake money to buy something? Cause the look on their faces would be priceless.
