Yeah, people still like to leave the house and have fun :)

      • +2

They jacked the prices on all claw machines. Cheaper at crown now lol

        • Literally the same company

        • No one else can beat Timezone prices when you have used all available promos & discounts.

  • Does the reload have a time limit? Eg can I reload this offer and use it at a later date?
    Good fun with the kids

    • +3

1 year. See point 4 T&Cs in the link provided. In theory you can keep it active indefinitely by visit once every 12 months?

      • +4

Topping it up online doesn’t refresh the expiry date it’s from when u last we’re in store

  • +23

Lately the Timezone vibe kind of feels like early childhood gambling addiction.

    • +3

Every game gives you tickets , that's virtual money for kids… What happened with games like metal slug, where you can play as long you keep your carecter alive, I took my daughter and in one game we spend $3 in less than 10 seconds of "play"(press one button)

      • Not every game gives you tickets. Depends what arcade you go to but many are real arcade games and other non ticket games

  • +5

Don’t know if Timezone still do it but they used to have a pay for an hour and you can go on most of the machines. We rocked up one New Years Day to find we were the only customers there. They even let us go on the simulator that was normally excluded. We just ran from machine to machine. Brilliant fun but I can see the economics sucked.

    • +4

yea its $35 for a full hour - good fun for the kids. I usually buy 1 for the 2 kids - there is a time between each play so you cant just keep swiping

      • +1

I just think it is good for people who aren’t great at the games. It doesn’t matter if you fail early you just try again. It also encourages you to try a few different things.

      • It's only about 5 or 10 seconds, a friend and I brute-forced our way through one of the pod-shooter dinosaur games in two player mode using the one card

        • It's 60 seconds minimum between swipes :)

      • doesn't seem worth it

should be able to last at least 2 mins for each $1

    • Yeh used to do like $20 and play for an hour. U can share the card too so get like 60 games out of it (swipe 1 a min) even work for ticket games but u don’t get tickets. Can’t justify paying 35 or 60 for same.

      • Except your not on a frantic rampage trying to get through that many games.

  • +1

with so much gaming entertainment now available at home through consoles, ipads, phones my kinds dont seem to be interested playing any games when we go to Timezone. They would mainly play ones that require physical interaction … eg hitting something, pushing something … plus the claw machines.

Issue is, there is a big difference between the venues … eg we went to GC recently and visited TZ there, it was lot of fun as it was huge and they had so many various machines … normally we go to Rouse Hill one in NSW which is quite tiny compared to the QLD one so it gets boring very quickly.

    • +2

Timezone in GC is the biggest in Australia. No wonder there was a lot of fun.

    • +1

Rouse Hill feels cramped and seems poorly maintained; at least a few of the machines are broken in some way each visit.

Blacktown and Chatswood are pretty good.

      • Top Ryde is good too. Only a few years old.

        • +1

Top Ryde is the best one in NSW but can't beat Gold Coast QLD.

Chatswood and Macquarie Centre are rubbish. I say even Penrith beats them both

          • +4

@neonlight: I fluked an OLED switch at Chatswood and a PS5 at Macquarie, so they're not too bad IMO 😂

            Not been to Penrith yet.

            • @John Kimble: Whoa considering how slim the chances are it's amazing you managed to get a Switch and a PS5!!

              • @Craze: For sure. It's pure luck I suppose. I think it took me 3 goes for the Switch in Sep and only 2 for the PS5 in Dec.

But since Sep each time I visit a TZ I now have a few goes of each of those types of machines to see if I can win a third time, so I'm slowly losing my advantage 😂

Before Sep I never really played those machines 🤦

              • @Craze: Chances? They don't have it on hands, you fill out a form and they give it to you a month later.

                • @Azro: Yeah, but the machines won't let you win until they've collected enough money, so it's about being lucky enough to play exactly at the right time.

                  • +1

@John Kimble: Ah, got it. I misunderstood the first message and didn't read the second one. Too quick to reply, my bad.

              • @Craze: On which machines?

    • Honestly Timezone isn't that great. It's all we got. Once you go overseas eg. China you will see we are vastly outdated with so many variety of machines then you will understand arcade is better

  • +1

Went the other day and saw most games like $3 to play. Used to cost 1.5-2$ inflation hectic. Double credits chewed up by the prices. Not worth it

  • +4

I still have some Galaxy World tokens from George Street. :(

  • +1

I've been to a few arcades (like Timezone) and most of the games feel like proto-gambling rather than interesting games. Long, long gone are the days of 1943, Forgotten Worlds, Heavy Barrell, TMNT and Street Fighter. Now, it's bells and flashing things to make you push buttons and 'win' tickets.

  • +2

Don’t forget you can get Timezone $50 gift cards for $40 at Costco.

    • Thanks! if you know it's for costco national wide ? I'm in Melbourne

      • yes it should be, but stock may vary. they ran out last time i went to buy some at costco bundamba and still not back in stock.

        • I call them few days back and they told me they have, but i couldnt see it when i went to store and staffs had no idea.

I'm getting it through shopback swap and get benefit of $5 cashback instead.

I will look out next time, thanks for sharing.

  • I Can't wait for Chuck E. Cheese's to come to our side of the pacific.

  • Sorta feels like a cash grab rather than a promotion imo, good find OP but Timezone's whole minimum $60 spend seems…

    • Missed when this place used to be a get together regardless of how much pocket money you had

  • GC QLD Timezone is massive. One of their claw machines is filled with loungefly bags. Saw a lady win one in only 2 goes; congratulated her profusely, she was estatic. Incredible luck!

  • Newbie to this, never been there before…have 5 yr old thinking may be good idea to take him there. How does it work, so I pay $60 to get $120 credit and depending on what games we play equivalent amount ($5, $3, etc…) will come out of total credit. Are all games part of this deal or some exclusions….OR would it be better to just go and do Pay as you go….I mean $120 is valid for 1 yr so plenty of time as well. Knox (VIC) Timezone is closest that we have…..thanks

    • +1

      No exclusions

    • +1

i get my 5 year old the 1 hour unlimited card for $30 or $35 and he loves it but my 6 year old grandson wants tickets so he doesn’t want the $35 unlimited as he wants to get prizes at the end of it

      • +1

Maybe you can keep a tally for him and promise him an off-site prize if he gets to a certain level?

        • haha no my daughter just buys his TZ pass..

  • All depends how often you go. Double dollars always good, if you’re gonna go again within 12 months. Technically games are half price.
Other option is timed play, $35 you get an hour of play (30 seconds between each play) but you don’t get tickets.
If you like arcades, timed play is good
If you want prizes, double dollars

I switch between them, if I feel like playing old school arcade (time crisis etc with little one) then timed play as they keep losing and I have to keep swiping.

Just to confirm, i can download the app and buy the double dollars on Friday/Saturday but dont need to utilise the credit on these days? Looking to take the kids on Sunday

    • +2

Yes, but only if you've already got a TZ card. You can't "purchase" a new physical card from the app, only "reload" an existing card that is linked to an account in the app. You get physical cards from a TZ.

      • Thanks very much John!

  • +3

Don't forget Woolworths Ultimate gift cards earn 20x woolworths reward points. You can use the ultimate GC to purchase timezone credit. $100 ultimate gift card = 2000 points which is $10 off a future shop. Just make sure the ultimate card you buy includes timezone in it.

    • Great tip!

    • Can you use this in the app, or do you have to use in store?

Edit: Looks like only in store.

  • +1

I love these sort of posts where people offer alternatives and tips. Helping each other.

  • Upon seaching ozbargain, basically there is such promotion every months.

    Thanks OP.

  • +1

(profanity) me, i still have $600 worth of credit. every time this deal comes out i pay the minimum $60 to get $120

this is a great deal for my kids since they lose the games so fast, but they are having a ton of fun playing them. lol

i don't mind them losing fast at 50% off the price.

i got to the gold membership fast and soon to be platinum already.

    • me too., I have charged $60 for $120 last week,

it seem to be monthly event now so I will be charging another $60 coming month.

I managed to get Prezze card $150 with $10 extra, swapped $10 +$50 to recharge at timezone.

I have $100 left go to become a platinum

  • I’m a newbie to this, downloaded the app, but can’t find a way to top up without adding a powercard, do I have to go the venue?

  • Just bought an ultimate for him GC at Woolies with EDR card, but it's saying I got 0 points 🙁. Did I buy the wrong card?

  • -1

Question - can I use this and then use it at Zone bowling to pay for fees ect

    • no

  • -1

I still have some tokens from Grundy’s on the Gold Coast, will they accept those :)

  • Just checking

You can use the credit against the one hour passes?

    Thanks

  • I don’t use Timezone card for almost 2 years. I just top up today. Does it mean I have to use the card within 12 months from today ?

    • +1

      Yes

    • +1

And then the credit expiry becomes 12 months from that last used date.
