  • So I guess it comes down to stock and preference. Seeing as the HP 2tb from earlier is same price from Officeworks also. :P Good find

In case anyone's struggling to find one at Officeworks: JB's had these at $99 for a week now, and still plenty in stock from what I saw today.

  • Clearance product? At OfficeWorks? Heh, good luck.

    • ?

There seems to be plenty of stock (Canberra / Newcastle)

      • OfficeWorks are generally well renowned for having little to no clearance stock. This, luckily, would seem to be an exception :-)

    • I think the warranty on this one will just be 1 year

      • compared to 3 years on HP one

  • anyone ripped these apart?

    • +3

yep, I picked up two of these before the floods for a really good price and cracked them open, the drives have been going well in my HP microsever ever since :) they do get a little hot though, the ones in mine were 7200 drives… you need to keep in mind though, the little plastic clips on the case break when you open them (or mine did) so there would be no way of getting them back into the case without someone noticing if you needed to send them back…

  • Is it the usb powered or does it have an external AC adapter as well?

    • +1

Easy to find if you bother to look. From the OW page on it: "simply plug in the included power supply and USB cable"

    • It's comes with AC adapter.

  • +1

There are plenty stocks in the OW near me. Just grabbed one as the internal disk in my PC is dying, will open it up when I get home, and hope it's still a 7200 rpm model. For a USB 3.0 case, I reckon the disk is more likely to be high speed model as well.

Picked the last 2 from Wetheril Park, already stripped the cases, the drives inside are indeed the 7200RPM drives, these ones:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148…

The case feels a little sturdier than the USB2 versions and I managed to open it up without completely devouring the clips.

    • Bare drives of that type are dropping in price now also.

      ST2000DM001

  • east perth store still has 1 or 2, minus the one i just got.

  • There are still plenty stock in Wollongong area, fairy meadow OW, for example, had more than 10 on the shelve yesterday. Not sure if the deal should be flagged as expired.

  • Still not expired, picked one up for $99 today at the Launceston store. There were still 8+ on the shelf and more out the back according to the sales rep.

  • No more at the Subiaco store as of yesterday when I picked up mine.

  • Not all of these HDDs are 7200 rpm. Opened mine and found a low speed drive in there, bad luck I reckon. Model Barracuda Green 2000DL003.
