    • +1

Plus you can use your gift card if you still have some left.

      • +1

I just used $150 GC from this Pixel 7 deal from May last year.

Lol what's going on with the downvotes? Can someone explain?

      • +1

Haha I only discovered this yesterday. I would also like an ELI5 explanation. It’s peak ozbargain High School

      • +2

There’s a whole back story to it

Some may say he was privileged and get exclusive rights to certain deals and some may say he has insulted some individuals

Btw I still have the screenshots of it where he was waiting for further advice for a matter that was circulated from a private dm that I had with him (aka he wanted to bring me to court for a matter that I did no wrong)

        • PM? :d

        • Is he banned? I cant seem to find his id.

        • -1

Honestly you should leave this kind of stuff off the comment section. Leave your personal griefs as personal. It adds an element of public shaming which isn't cool. I understand why you might be upset but you should really not talk about it in public.

          • +1

@maverickjohn: It shouldn’t have even started in the first place from that user, and that’s called white threat

We’re all here to enjoy the forum and everyone shouldn’t be a target if something doesn’t please them

I did no harm to them and why should they attack me?

            • @BargainsGrabber: I agree with you, this place is for the community post deals. But that comment can send the wrong image/signal.

Funny how they rejected to price match last time…..

  • +4

    Too late to the party…..

    • +4

But brought plenty of stock to the party

  • +5

Definitely recommend a case, my 7 pro cracked from slipping off a pillow that was on the ground….

    • +2

Just holding it the first time felt very slippery due to the float back, definitely get a case asap

      • +1

Yeah was used to having no case with my Pixel 2 XL. That had fallen off a balcony onto concrete with no case and only had minor paint chip damage in the corner. Apparently the durability is going backwards in phones might give one of the Motorolas a try.

    • is this for real?
was pillow very thich and floor hard concrete?

      • The floor was tile and the pillow wasn't very thick, my phone was on charge at the time and as it fell the cord extended and ripped it out which didn't help the cause. I guess it's because the glass hit the tile bit I'd put faith if I dropped my Pixel 2 XL face first on tile right now it wouldn't crack.

    this or moto edge fusion

    • +4

i post this everytime moto comes up:
moto is amazing until you want to use camera, practically unusable camera

      • +3

Agree. Great phones with terrible cameras.

I know Pixel phones are not for everyone, although I like them, but they do have great cameras.

      • +4

One way that often gets you better results on shitty budget cameras. Try a GCAM port.
While you'll always be limited by sensor, Google's image processing can still make a huge difference e.g. https://youtu.be/0eb9LKdhXy0?t=126

    • This!

    • +2

I am using Motorola Edge 30 Fusion from nearly a year. I actually don't mind the cameras. I find they are decent, front camera is a bit meh.
The only let down is that it has poor battery.

    • +1

The moto has 68w wired charging, this has 20w. Main advantage of the moto.

Not much else in it's favour as far as I know - they're either similar or the pixel wins out slightly

  • 7 pro is $799 as well.

  • +2

    Bought a 128gb 7a…

In hindsight is grab a 256gb model. Battery life on the pixels are quite average as well.

    • more expensive? Why

      • +2

The 128gb runs out really quickly with apps and photos.

256gb gives you enough space to not have to worry.

    • Unfortunately there's no 256gb option for the 7 at JB, in either colour.

    • +1

I've had a 7 for almost a year now and yes, my phone is 80% on battery save mode to try to make sure it makes until the end of the day. This is the only compelling reason why I even consider another phone but it's too new to be replaced.

      • Thanks. I think battery is the most important thing on a phone.

    • I have 7a, 6a and 5.

The 7a battery life is pretty bad. Battery life on the 6a and 5 seems much better.

Did Google change its manufacturer for the 7a and newer models? :-/

  • Best deals on Gift Cards?

  • Now is JB's turn after OW finished (OOS) lol

  • Is this a worthy upgrade from a Pixel 4a 5G?

    Mostly wanting a performance/speed upgrade..

    • +2

The 4a is a surprisingly good phone, however the P7 is a decent improvement. Your issue is more around bang for buck: $499 (or $799) for last year's flagship is pretty hard to pass up. Hunt around for gift cards and you might be able to get some more savings.

  • This phone is good if looking to trade in in a year or 18 months, trades for $295 as of today which is good as its over 50% (almost 60%) of purchase price.

But the list of bugs in this phone:
    https://www.androidauthority.com/google-pixel-7-pro-problems…

I wouldn't border even it was free but that us just me. (ok for a spare phone thought)

    • +2

P6P and now P7P owner here. Just went through that list, and my n=1 is that I had a few of these issues early in the phone's life - however the only one left is the face unlock issue with wallet. Yes you should fingerprint unlock first - however even if the transaction fails the fingerprint prompt appears anyway.

Mrs willyroo's P6P has a broken screen (from a no-brand case), yet it soldiers on superbly. The only issue there is the horrible (and I mean horrible) network capability. You literally need to be able to see a mobile tower for it to work without Wifi calling :).

      • A phone that has signal issue is a major issue don't you think? Worse many say its hardware issue and seems right as Google seems have fix it with Pixel8?

      • n=1 ?

        • Possibly a reference to sample size (of one) - so in context it would be an anecdote of willyroo's personal experience

          Just as a guess

          • @feeed:

            willyroo's personal experience

Yes - however context - that was commentary about a Pixel 6 Pro.

I was trying to make the point that most Pixel issues get resolved, however the P6 had a big hardware issue with mobile reception which couldn't be fixed.

    • I have 6 of the issues listed in this article on my Pixel 7, and there's still a few things I haven't tested yet, such as flashlight gestures and PC connection.

It's a nice phone, but not without its issues, the most annoying personally is mobile signal strength / connection issues.

P.S. my wallet does a bunch of interesting things, sometimes it works with face unlock, sometimes it fails and asks for finger print, sometimes it asks for unlock code 'for extra security' and sometimes it says 'moved too fast, try again'.

  • Cashrewards gift cards $12.47 cash back. Probably better offers but too late for me now.

  • I have a 6a, should I bother upgrading

    • +2

I'm not going to, 6a still has heaps of life in it. Do get annoying experiences with the lack of ram though.

    • +6

Keep your phone for at least 3-4 years before changing. Good for your wallet and good for environment.

      • -1

The pixel is 8 years of upgrades and updates …which is more environmentally responsible.

        • +1

That's the new pixel 8 and 8 pro only

  • I have a 6 Pro.

I dropped the phone and a rock cracked the camera. Case did nothing as it was exposed.

How much is the normal a downgrade from a pro?

    • Slightly smaller non curved screen and lack of macro camera.

4gb less ram you may notice if you game etc

Really I doubt you'll notice much of a difference. I've been very happy with my 7 (much happier than I was with the 6)

  • +1
    • +3

Yeah but as mentioned a few times, no stock anywhere

  • +1

Which one is better value 7 or 7 pro? Currently using 13 pro max with 120hz display so not sure if the 90hz will be noticeable for me

      • Because Apple is just too expensive for what they provide. Many won't agree because they're not very good at tech or can't be bothered. This is why they're are trillion dollar company.

          • +4

@syswong: A lot of that market share comes from people who cant handle peer pressure or love the 'status' of having an Apple phone. More of them also give their old phones to their relatives, kids, parents when upgrading, so the market share increases eventually. I personally don't care about a brands 'status' (perceived or actual) or price, as long as it fits my needs. Or they're just a fan of Apple products.

Also…having phones since the Motorola Flare in 1996, through Nokias, Samsungs, Nexus and now Pixel 7 Pro…..they all 'just worked' for me.

Trust me no one wants an Android vs Apple arguement here………because nobody cares :) Each to their own. Just get what you like or suits you and live your life.

            • -3

@Trishool: Well problems is Android fanboys here are like Mechz (above) or vikaskamboj (below). They can't except that both system has there good and bad but yet most Australia does pick Apple, then Samsung, then the rest (about 20%). That is hard sold number for years now (give or take a few %). People like these two can then only result name calling, made up stuff or picking common issues on smartphone in general and blame Apple and Samsung.

              • +1

@syswong: Apple ruin their cameras after their 2 year update… For the life me I can't understand why they would forcibly ruin a good feature.. for that reason I can't stand Apple. Otherwise they would be amazing.
This is coming from my pixel 8 pro.
I can say hands down the pixel is worse than Samsung or Apple. I had to run nova launcher to make the experience functional such as having folders etc. the phone keeps freezing.
If I have to rank them Apple would be best but after 2 years it drops right down, then Samsung (which would take first place after apples 2nd year update and then all other android devices are fairly equal.

                • @maverickjohn:

Apple ruin their cameras after their 2 year update

Are you refereeing to the 48Mp update? What feature do you think they F up?

I run 13 pro and IOS 17 updates has been great.

15 and 15 pro and 15 Pro max is arguable I agree. Having said that, because Apple controls everything in the product, I have much more faith in an iPhone getting better than Androids. This is what I keep saying their system just work because they don't let you do shit to your phone.

                  • @syswong: My wife's 13 pro max is now sluggish and isn't as sharp as it was with the previous iOS update. When I had the iPhone x as well same issue. All my photos became noisy and slow
When I referred to the 2 year update I meant the iOS update. After owning your device for 2 years the 2nd major iOS update tends to destroy your camera.

                    • +1

@maverickjohn: have you go into Apple store and ask for a diagnostic.

I just take a look at my pics I don't seem to have major issue but then again I am not a pixel peeping person.

But you concern is valid, I also run a S23 5G, may go out to do some controlled test and comp[are that against the iPhone 13 Pro.

                    • @maverickjohn: As our phones fill with crud; a reset could help.

Be sure to backup your totp 2fa codes beforehand.

Also, filling the storage of a device nearly full will make the device perform slower as it would need to constantly swap things around. Aim to have around 20% free storage.

              • +1

@syswong: I fully accept that people who aren't tech literate or lazy pick Apple 99% of the time.

Apple has great service, Geniuses for n00bs, interfaces so easy that 3 year olds figure it out in less than an hour.

For me, it's not worth paying through the nose given how restricted their walled (sure looks like a prison from the outside) garden is.

                You do you.

    • +1

Apple quality is junk.. have got practical experience when multiple iphones bought new from telstra and jbhifi.. dying after update, developing faults with network and camera, ridiculous issues with touch panel etc.. moreover ios is an elderly person stuck in a wheel chair.. Android is young energetic and beautiful..

      • +2

That’s a pretty sad cave minded opinion of categorising phone users, maybe you’ve been in the basement too long reading phone war comments, lol!

  • Is the Pixel 7 Pro worth the extra money? I'd be buying mostly for the camera.

My previous phones for what feels like the last decade or so have been the Moto G-series. Great phones, but I'm now looking beyond the budget smartphone category.

Is this price of $799 basically the best value-for-money option on the market right now, comparing like-for-like capability?

    Thanks for any advice!

    • Following this too, just need some anecdotes. I'm very tempted by the P7P's telephoto lens, but is it, and a few other positives, worth $300 more?

  • +1

Makes me wonder if there will be a deal on pixel 8 soon fingers crossed

    • Just wait until EOFY

Any charger and case recommendations for the Pixel 7? Thanks.

    • +2

use one of the 27 chargers you already have?

    • Laptop chargers work and are everywhere.

    • +1

      Spigen case

    • Using an old charger that came with a Pixel 2 XL, and have a spigen clear case which I like, even though they do go yellow eventually.

  • +1

Now waiting for Google store to have this price and then club it with Student Beans 10% discount.

    • Possible?

      • Who knows? JB wasn’t price matching until yesterday for few guys here and now.

    • +1

Google store doesn’t sell the Pixel 7 range anymore

      • It is still listed for $999 & showing as OOS. 7a from $749 (in stock).

        • Yup that means they won’t get the stock anymore

          I’ve been monitoring it too

        • 7 is RRP 999 and 7a is RRP 749?
Sale price for 7 is 500 meaning 7a will be less than 500?

  • +1

Worry about the crack camera issue, esp this is for wife being more 'careless', will a super safe case able to avoid that?
